Bergisches Land: The Highlands East of

Join us for the 3. International Student Summer Camp of the Rotary Club / Rösrath Bergisches Land, Rotary District 1810!

We are happy to welcome approximately 16 students, from 8-10 countries which will send one boy and one girl each (age 16-18). Camp language will be English, perhaps we'll teach you a little bit of German...

Just on the eastern banks of the river you are entering the highlands called "Bergisches Land". Our camp headquarters are located in a youth hostel in the village of , approx. 30 km east of Cologne. Our daily excursions are starting from here. We are going to discover typical spots of the region, e.g.:

• Exploring the city of Cologne with its old roman history and its modern culture, Climb the towers of "Kölner Dom" and walk down to picturesque old city centre • Trip to the unique suspension railway • Visit to the world famous knife production town of "" • Exploring a stalactite cave • Canoeing on the river • Geocaching tour • Discovering the medieval castle "Schloss Burg", the former home of the ruling family of the Counts of Berg • Excursion to a big dam lake • A still operational historic water powered steel forging mill ...... and many others ...

The summer camp aims to develop and improve international friendships and networking among young people. We are glad to welcome you in our summer camp and let you explore a region at the heart of with most interesting contrasts between a world famous city and the beauty of the landscape, and the unique arrangement of traditional farming, forestry and industrial culture!

Facts and Figures Arrival on Wednesday 20 th of August 2014, at Cologne/Bonn (CGN)* airport or Cologne railway station* Departure on Sunday, 31rst August 2014, from Cologne/Bonn (CGN)* airport or Cologne railway station* • Daily excursion program from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. Sportive summer dress, weather -proof jacket, sport & hiking shoes required • Youth hostel accommodation, 2-4 bed rooms • Camp participants should be 16 -18 years old; participants should neither be brother & sister nor boyfriend & girlfriend • The non-refundable registration fee of € 1 50,00 p.p. also covers accommodation and meals.

Important: • Participants must have a health insurance & passport • Personal liability & accident insurance are covered by the camp (15€) • Registration fee of € 150,- must be paid until 30.04.2014 by bank transfer with ref.
