Diaspora Directory in Context The second Global Irish Civic Forum took place on 4-5 May 2017 in Dublin Castle, with the theme “Communities, Connections, Conversations”. As was the case with the first Global Irish Civic Forum, held in 2015, Irish community leaders from around the world, drawn from emigrant and diaspora communities, came together in Dublin to discuss the challenges facing the Irish abroad. Over 220 attendees from 16 countries, representing more than 150 organisations dedicated to supporting Irish communities around the world participated in the Forum.

Increasing connections and collaborations between organisations was a key theme at the Civic Forum. As part of our commitment to follow up, and acknowledging requests from Irish community groups, the Irish Abroad Unit has developed this Diaspora Directory to help all members of the Global Irish community to stay better connected to each other. Don’t forget that the Global Irish Hub also has other resources to help you connect and communicate better.

In total there are 360 organisations listed in this Directory, comprising all organisations that have been funded in the last five years by the Department of Foreign Afairs and Trade’s Emigrant Support Programme. In addition, any organisation that was represented at the 2015 and 2017 Global Irish Civic Forums is also included in the Directory. As a Department we have a strong commitment to upholding best practice in data protection and for this reason all the details in the directory have been sourced from publicly available information.

Organisations are grouped by geographic area and then alphabetically. We have also added “tags” to organisations, to aid in your search and to give an indication of the type of work the organisation is engaged in. The information and links in this document are valid as of 1st August 2017 and if you would like to have your organisation’s details amended, please email [email protected].

The Department and Ireland’s Missions With over 80 Missions around the world and with a global team that works in more than 50 languages, the Department of Foreign Afairs and Trade is here to work with the Irish diaspora and Irish organisations.

The Embassies, Missions and Representative Ofices that make up our Mission network support Irish communities by advocating on their behalf, by organising events and activities that Irish communities need or are interested in, and by providing consular and administrative assistance to thousands of citizens every year.
