(15-5; 4-4) GAME NOTES VS. WASHINGTON -- Jan. 30, 2005 (CBS/1:45 p.m.)

SUN DEVILS TAKE ON HUSKIES: The Arizona State University men's team (15-5; 4-4 in the Pac-10 Conference) hosts the tenth-ranked Washington Huskies (16-3; 6-2) on Sunday, Jan. 30 (1:45 p.m. MST). Craig Bolerjack and Jim Spanarkel will call the action for CBS. ASU led Washington State 42-29 at the 14:58 mark of the second half Thursday and never gave up the lead in a 68-62 win as Serge Angounou led the Sun Devils with 18 points and 10 boards and was perfect in seven attempts and four free throws. ASU tied a season high by making 81.8 percent of its free throws (18-of-22). The Sun Devils outrebounded the Cougars 37-23 and posted 20 assists on 22 made field goals. Ike Diogu added 15 points and 13 boards while Bryson Krueger had 13 points, all of them in the second half. Kevin Kruger has 12 of his 14 points in the first half, including four three-pointers.

SERGING: After not scoring a point in the first two games of the year and having just six points through three games, Serge Angounou is averaging 11.4 points and 7.8 rebounds in the past 17 games and has picked up his game in the past five contests. In that time, he is averaging 15.4 points and eight boards and is 31-of-47 (.659) from the field and 14-of-16 (.875) from the line. He also has posted his best scoring game twice in the past four outings, as he scored 20 vs. USC on Jan. 15 and at Oregon on Jan. 22 (in a career-high 35 minutes). He has five double-doubles on the year. He is averaging 12.9 points and 7.1 rebounds and is shooting 59.5 percent in Pac-10 play.

PAC-10 NOTE: Ike Diogu leads the Pac-10 in both scoring (21.6 ppg.) and rebounding (10.1 rpg.). Only A.C. Green of Oregon State (1984-85) and Mark McNamara of California (1981-82) have led the Pac-10 in both categories. Diogu also leads the league in blocks at 2.7 per game. Since blocks became an official statistic in 1977-78, no player has led the league in all three categories.

ANOTHER IKE STAT: Ike Diogu is one of only four players nationally to average at least 20 points and 10 boards. Diogu is averaging 21.6 points and 10.1 boards, and the others are of Utah (20.0 and 12.2), Michael Harris of Rice (20.1 and 11.4) and Juan Mendez of Niagara (24.1 and 10.3).

RECENTLY: After sweeping the Bay Area trip Jan. 6-8 for the first time since 1984-85, ASU dropped three straight before winning its third Pac-10 road game with a convincing 64-51 win at Oregon last Saturday. After allowing UCLA, USC and Oregon State an average of 90.7 points and 56 percent field-goal shooting, ASU held the Ducks to 28.6 percent from the field (20-of-70) and to their fewest points (51) at McArthur Court since March 6, 1993 (54-48 loss to Oregon State).

MAKING THEM WHEN THEY COUNT: In its past three Pac-10 wins, ASU has made 42-of-52 (.808) from the free throw line in the second half, including 10-of-12 (.833) in the seven-point win at Cal and 13-of-16 (.813) in the six-point win over Washington State. Against Oregon last Saturday, ASU made 13-of-17 (.764) in the final three minutes to seal the win. VS. WASHINGTON: ASU leads the series 33-22 and has won three of the past five, six of the past 10 and eight of the past 13 against Washington, but the Huskies won a 90-81 contest on Jan. 31 last year in Seattle and then completed the sweep with a 96-72 win in Tempe on Feb. 28. In Seattle last year, Washington was in control after jumping out to a 12-0 lead and never trailing. Washington had 49 first-half points (an ASU opponent's season high) and 31 bench points. In Tempe on Feb. 28, UW jumped out to a 44-29 halftime lead and got 41 bench points in the win. Rob Evans is 7-5 against Washington, while Ike Diogu is averaging 20.3 points and seven boards per game vs. the Huskies and is shooting 59.4 percent (19-of-32) from the floor. ASU's 20-7 mark against the Huskies in Tempe is its second-best mark against any Pac-10 foe and has won 15 of the past 17 against UW in Tempe.

MORE HUSKY MATCHUP NOTES: No Sun Devil opponent has scored 100 points in Wells Fargo Arena since Feb. 27, 1988, when third-ranked Arizona topped ASU 101-73, a span of 278 games, a mark that Washington could threaten as it ranks second in the nation in scoring at 88.1 points per game and has reached triple digits four times. Only five teams have reached triple digits against a Rob Evans' coached team in regulation in his 13 years (366 games).

IKE'S NUMBERS: Ike Diogu’s play this year has been among the best in the nation, as he is tied for eighth nationally in points per game at 21.6 (as of Jan. 28) and tied for 13th with 10.1 rebounds per contest. He has posted a Pac-10 leading ten double-doubles and leads the nation in free throws made (161) and attempted (196) and is eighth in the Pac-10 in free throw percentage (.821). His 161 made free throws is more than all but six players in the nation have attempted, while the next closet player to his 161 makes is Juan Mendez of Niagara with 132. His national-best consecutive games in double-figures scoring streak is up to 79 games (every game of his career). He has eight 30-point games (three this year), 41 20-point games (12 this year), 25 double-doubles (10 this year) and 13 other games with nine rebounds. He also leads the Pac-10 in blocks (2.7 per game), offensive boards (3.45), defensive boards (6.60), minutes per game (35.0) and field goal percentage (.585). He is 584-of-739 (.790) from the free throw line in his career.

HELP FOR IKE: ASU also has established some balance in its eight Pac-10 games, as three players are averaging double-digit scoring, including sixth-man Kevin Kruger who is scoring at a 12.3 points per game clip and has 10 double-digit scoring games overall, along with 31 assists and just 10 turnovers in Pac-10 play. Sophomore Bryson Krueger, who played for assistant coach Brooks Thompson at Yavapai C.C. last year, is 22-of-41 (.537) from the three-point stripe in his past 13 games and 12-of-22 (.545) in the past six contests.

MORE EXPERIENCE: Last year at this time Rob Evans was trying to play up to eight newcomers (including six freshman) without a senior starter. ASU's eight newcomers combined to average 118.1 minutes per game they played in last year, compared to four newcomers averaging 46.9 minutes in games played this year with two senior starters and two-time All-Pac-10 honoree Ike Diogu. ALL OF THEM LIKE IKE: ESPN.com asked seven of its college basketball experts (Andy Katz, Pat Forde, Jay Bilas, Fran Fraschilla, Doug Gottlieb, Joe Lunardi and Andy Glockner) to pick a five-man midseason All- American team the first week of January. Only one player in the nation was a unanimous pick on each ballot-- Ike Diogu. In addition, Jay Bilas selected Ike as his preseason Player of the Year.

MORE DIOGU: Ike Diogu’s national-best double-figure scoring streak of 79 games still has a ways to go until it reaches the NCAA-record. The record is 115 set by La Salle's Lionel Simmons from 1987-90. Diogu's lowest career point total was 10 against Morehead State the first game of his career on Nov. 22, 2003, and then he hit two free throws with 21 seconds left to reach 10 points at Oregon on Jan. 22, 2005. The next longest active streak in the Pac-10 belongs to Stanford’s Dan Grunfeld with 12 straight games in double digits.

KRUGER, THEN AND NOW: Sophomore Kevin Kruger is 41-of-103 (.398) from the three-point stripe and has notched double digits in 10 games. He provided a spark in the final nine games last year, averaging 29.0 minutes, 12.4 points and shooting 27-of-59 (.448) from the three-point stripe. He was the team's second- leading scorer in those nine games. After shooting 4-of-27 (.148) from the three-point stripe in the first 18 games of his career, he is 68-of-162 (.420) in his past 29 contests. He posted a season-high 18 points vs. UCLA and had a career-high 22 at Arizona last year. He had 20 in his first career start last year at Oregon State on Feb. 19. He has 26 assists and just seven turnovers in the past five games.

NEED MOORE AT THE LINE: Three times this season Steve Moore has iced a close game with his late-game free throws. On Nov. 30 at Temple, ASU led 61-60 when Moore made to free throws to make it 63-60 with 30 seconds left, and then hit two more to make it 65-62 with seven seconds left as ASU topped Temple. Against Cal State Northridge on Dec. 4, Moore was fouled while shooting a three-pointer with 14 seconds left and ASU down 66-64, but he sank all three to give ASU a 67-66 win. At California on Jan. 8, Moore hit two free throws with 46 seconds left and ASU leading 75-70 to give ASU a seven-point cushion as it would win 79-70.

OLD SCHOOL THREES: Ike Diogu has been fouled while making a shot 79 times in his career and has made 61-of-79 (.772) of the free throws that followed.

ETC.: ASU is 11-1 when it outrebounds its opponent and 13-1 when it leads at the half…Jason Braxton has started 90 games in his career and played in all 108 and is 14-of-18 (.778) from the free throw line in Pac-10 play…ASU is 23-2 (.920) in the past three seasons when it shoots 50 percent…Ike Diogu is averaging 10.1 rebounds per game. ASU has not had a player average double-digits in rebounding since Mark Landsberger (14.4) in 1976-77.

IKE AT THE LINE: Ike Diogu has made 584-of-739 (.790) from the free throw line in his career. He is tied for fifth on the Pac-10 career list with his 584 makes along with Todd Lichti of Stanford (1985-89), and with seven more makes will tied Brevin Knight of Stanford (1993-97) for fourth. He will tie Knight for fourth on the career attempts chart with two more attempts. 2004-05 ASU Men's Basketball Arizona State Combined Team Statistics (as of Jan 27, 2005) All games
