He enjoyed a fascinating and accomplished career as a professional musician over the course of six decades. A man who clearly loved playing music live in a wide variety of settings, Michael Fonfara was a regular fixture in Toronto music clubs, accompanying such artists as Johnny Wright, Dawn Tyler Watson and Ben Racine will co-host the Montreal edition of the (Virtual) Maple Blues Awards on Robin Banks, Jordan John, Bentroots, and many Monday, February 15 on TBS Facebook and YouTube. He had a vast knowledge of blues and , having amassed a huge diverse collection of CDs and albums and a library of biographies and books on the subject. He also liked to stay current by reading the latest music mags and buying CDs of up-and- coming artists. He made it his business to know what was hot and new. For this and for his welcoming personality, Stew was much-loved by music industry friends, his community and, of course, by the musicians, who enjoyed his many stories and appreciated his unwavering belief in, and encouragement of, their pursuits. Stew had a rich and full life, but was no stranger to hardship and heartache.
