CCI School of Divinity – Prospectus 2018 Page 4 of 36 MESSAGES FROM: THE CITY CHANGERS MOVEMENT & DOXA DEO VISIONARY LEADER is more than the transaction of sharing information. It is about the impacting and transforming of lives. Transformation focuses on the fundamental change of a human being in a holistic way. The total person is to be influenced by education. It is this transformational aspect of our engaging of every student that makes the City Changers Institute unique and extremely effective.

Our educational environments, therefore, not only facilitate quality education, but also facilitate this deep transformation in individuals that will ultimately affect and transform their homes, workplaces and society at large. Simply put, our training raises City and World Changers. We should never underestimate how important an individual Christ follower with a changed heart, an established character and a Christ centred worldview can be, and how much impact he or she can have on this world.

May the legacy of CCI be, that “it has raised many powerful City Changers, who will enter the world with godly passion and purpose!”

CITY CHANGERS INSTITUTE INTERNAL AND DOXA DEO S.A. LEADER We are deeply arrested by the challenge in Matthew 9 where Jesus makes it clear how necessary leadership is in the Kingdom of God.

Matthew 9:37-38 - “Then He said to His disciples, The harvest is indeed plentiful, but the laborers are few. So pray to the Lord of the harvest to force out and thrust laborers into His harvest.”

The City Changers Institute is the mechanism through which Doxa Deo dreams to Accelerate God’s mission in the cities to which He has called us. We are excited about the strategy that involves all of the disciplines that are needed to equip someone for leadership in God’s mission on earth. We see a wonderful partnership between the local church and academic institutions where theory is constantly put into practice and where leadership development takes place in all of its facets. This happens very effectively through our School of Divinity program and we celebrate every single person who ultimately completes the programme as a vital part of realising the Missio Dei on earth.

May the Lord of the Harvest release more and more people into the field who know their Master and know how to accomplish His mission! Welcome to the City Changers Institute.

MARTHINUS AND BIANCA STEFFEN

CCI School of Divinity – Prospectus 2018 Page 6 of 36 1. CITY TRANSFORMATION: THE DREAM 1.1. THE CITY CHANGER INSTITUTE: WHO WE ARE

The City Changers Institute (CCI) was established as part of the Doxa Deo family in the year 2009. The institute focuses on the need for training and developing City Changers on a formal level. But what is a City Changer? City Changers are people who live with passion and purpose, who are fully alive in Christ, and who live to see their cities being transformed into places where God reigns! City Changers, as the name suggests, change our cities! CCI focuses on multiple disciplines ranging from post-secondary, under and post graduate, as well as organisational development and consulting.

CCI VISION:

Equipping City Changers through Christ-centred Higher Education

CCI MISSION:

By establishing the Doxa Deo dream of city transformation, the City Changers Institute will:  Equipping – The holistic processes of education, training and development for individuals through various mechanisms and methodologies.  City Changers – People of influence who know God, love people and impact their world.  Christ-centred – Discovering the centrality of Christ as it finds expression within all of reality.  Higher Education – A threefold focus on academic, vocational and professional initiatives, in partnership with other like-minded organizations.  Transformed Cities – Geographical spaces where eight spheres of society – i.e. (a) church, (b) education, (c) business, (d) social society, (e) media, (f) government, (g) arts, and (h) sport are being transformed by City Changers.

At the heart of CCI we truly seek to not only equip our students with the highest standards of academic development and practical experience training, but also to do this from a Christ-centred foundation. The outcome – individuals who collectively take up the responsibility of leading their local city to a place of restoration and wellbeing. It is therefore with eager anticipation that we wait to see what God plans to do through the graduate CCI City Changers.

1.1.1. CCI Strategy

The City Changers Institute’s model consists of a three-fold structure (a) Academic, (b) Vocational, and (c) Professional; each with its own unique strategy:

1.1.2. CCI Fivefold Approach to Training

CCI School of Divinity – Prospectus 2018 Page 7 of 36 In order to achieve the desired higher educational and holistic developmental outcome, CCI uses five strategic mechanisms:

•Accredited Academic Qualification – A fully accredited degree qualification through one of our partnership institutes, such the South African Theological Seminary. The academic training is to provide a student with the necessary knowledge and Academic understanding of their respective field of study as well as the ability to reason and Studies critically analyse the obtained knowledge.

•Practical Experience Training - exposure, training and evaluation. The focus of practical training will be in line with the desired vocational outcomes, providing each Practical student with a sufficient understanding of what will be expected of them out there in Training their respective spheres of influence.

•Mandate Impartation – To provide each student with a thorough understanding of and the ability to apply and integrate the City Changers mandate, strategy and Mandate values. The focus of this process will be to lay a Christ-centred foundation and a Impartation personal re-alignment to a Trinitarian worldview understanding.

•Leadership Development – This is one of the pivotal mechanisms in all of our training as we desire that all of our graduates will truly make a difference out there. If we really want to see cities transformed, then we need to become the men and Leadership women of influence that God has called us to be; we therefore need to become Develoment tomorrow’s leaders… today!

•Mentoring and Discipleship – Within the City Changers Institute we believe that “It takes a village to raise a child”. This means continuous mentoring and discipleship by a local learning centre’s leadership team. It will cover the five specialised areas Mentorship of fathering, character development, emotional care, academic support and practical feedback.

Each programme is tailor-made through a unique combination of two or more strategic mechanisms. However, as the strength and effectiveness of CCI’s strategy is directly proportional to our relationship with our partners, we constantly seek to obtain new partners while simultaneously investing in all of them.

1.1.3. CCI Philosophy

CCI School of Divinity – Prospectus 2018 Page 8 of 36 The philosophy of the City Changers Institute is twofold, i.e. (a) Reproduction, and (b) a Christ- centred Trinitarian Worldview.

“The things that you have heard from me among many witnesses; commit and transfer these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also…” 2 Timothy 2:2

As a training institute we see ourselves in a supporting role towards leaders from all spheres of society, who believe in the principle of reproducing a next generation of godly leaders. In Paul’s instruction towards Timothy, he already established the consideration of not only involving two generations (the two of them), but a further two generations after them. Consequently, our students are entrusted to these leaders, while CCI takes responsibility for the process on their behalf.

“For this cause also, from the day in which we heard, we do not cease praying on your behalf; and asking that you may be filled with the full knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding...” Colossians 1:9.

Though all vocational training programs ultimately seek the establishment of new skills and the enrichment of a student’s competence, CCI’s approach towards this outcome is founded on an understanding of a trichotomous worldview, consisting of the eternal, internal and external realities; as viewed through a Christ-centred lens of life and creation. a. Eternal Reality – Spiritual Understanding b. Internal Reality – Knowledge c. External Reality – Wisdom

1.2. CITY CHANGERS MOVEMENT & DOXA DEO: OUR FAMILY

Doxa Deo is a multi-functional international ministry, focusing on the transformation of cities through the establishment of the Kingdom of God. The ministry was established in two different locations (campuses) in () in 1996 under the leadership of Alan Platt. The ministry has since expanded to ten different campuses in Pretoria / Tshwane as well as eight other cities across the globe, i.e. , , , , , London (UK), Auckland (NZ), and Stuttgart ().

Doxa Deo Vision: Establishing God’s reign in 12 strategic cities for global impact

1.2.1. Family Strategy

In order for Doxa Deo to effectively accomplish their mission, a threefold strategy was devised.

CCI School of Divinity – Prospectus 2018 Page 9 of 36

Doxa Deo Mission: Transforming people and society

 Christ’s Invitation – It begins with creating environments and moments where people can become aware of his inclusion in the Beloved. Belief then issues from this awareness as a proper response which leads to confession and commitment to Christ and the new life made available to man.

 Knowing God – From there, the journey begins. What needs to be established now is the believer’s identity in Christ, intimacy with God, and a lifestyle of integrity through the Holy Spirit.

 Loving People – A critical outflow of this new identity is expressed through uncompromisable compassion, discovering one’s calling to minister to others and passionately making a contribution.

 Impacting my World – Finally, making an impact is expressed through an understanding of worldview, beliefs and philosophies, impacting my workplace and taking a stand for the completed work and victory of Christ by making a stand for wholeness.

1.3. CCI PROGRAMMES AND COURSES

The City Changers Institute’s programmes are divided into the following categories: (a) CCI Academic (qualifications only); (b) CCI Vocational (holistic training); and (c) CCI Professional

CCI School of Divinity – Prospectus 2018 Page 10 of 36 (continuous education). Although there are many more programmes that are presented by CCI, we list those most relevant to the School of Divinity process.

1.3.1. CCI Academic – Undergraduate Qualifications (accredited)

Part of the School of Divinity programme is a bachelor’s degree in theology. However, where matric exemption is a challenge, SATS may facilitate further studies through the Higher Certificate in Christian life. a. Higher Certificate in Christian Life – A one-year certificate that focusses on the foundations of theology and Christian life; as presented in partnership with the South African Theological Seminary (SATS). b. Higher Certificate in Christian Counselling – A one-year certificate that focusses on the foundations of Christian counselling; as presented in partnership with the South African Theological Seminary (SATS). c. Bachelors in Theology (BTh) – A three-year degree presented in partnership with the South African Theological Seminary (SATS).

1.3.2. CCI Academic – Postgraduate Qualifications (accredited)

SATS and CCI are also in partnership to facilitate an honours degree in theology. a. Bachelors in Theology Honours (BTh-Hons) – A one-year honours degree presented in partnership with the South African Theological Seminary (SATS)

1.3.3. CCI Academic – Post-Secondary Programmes (non-accredited) a. City Changers Ministry Programme – A three year, part-time programme that is focused on the equipping and training of people for effective city transformation. The main outcome of the programme: Impartation of the City Changers Mandate and DNA through ministry, leadership and life skills development. b. Metamorpho – A one year programme for matriculants that focuses on the discovery of potential, development of character and preparation for vocational training. Although Metamorpho is not hosted by CCI itself, we are part of the Doxa Deo family and CCI highly recommends that students complete Metamorpho before enrolling for SoD. The leadership of Metamorpho describes the programme as follows:

“Metamorpho offers young people a one-year post matric potential and character discovery course. Our focus is to equip a student for life. Metamorpho has been around for 15 years. The first and most important thing is that in Metamorpho we ‘stretch’ our students all year long and they will function out of their comfort zones, so that they can grow and develop. During this process a tremendous investment will be made in the following areas of each student's life:

Emotional healing and intelligence, spiritual life and Christian foundation, character building, leadership development and life skills, personality analysis, human relations,

CCI School of Divinity – Prospectus 2018 Page 11 of 36 conflict resolution, inclusion of responsibility, knowledge of life principles, appreciation of nature, team building, self-esteem, relationships and marriage, life calling, and many more.

The whole process is thoroughly grounded in biblical as well as current industrial psychological principles. It integrates the spiritual and physical life and is principled and practical! The process is progressive and functions adequately outside the student's comfort zone so that growth can continue to occur and that students will be responsible for their own learning and growth. This all happens in a very dynamic process that is very adventurous and that offers wonderful experiences.”

For more information on Metamorpho, please visit their site at: www.metamorpho.co.za

1.3.4. CCI Vocational a. School of Divinity – Equipping and training people who are called into full-time ministry. The programme includes amongst other aspects a BTh qualification, presented in partnership with the South African Theological Seminary. The SoD is divided into the fields of specialisation. A specialisation field will determine where a student will complete their practical and leadership training:

i. Campus Ministry – For people who are called to full-time ministry at a local church (campus). ii. Meta Ministry – For people who are called as full-time leaders within Metamorpho.

1.3.5. CCI Professional

CCI Professional is the professional continuous division within the City Changers Institute. In conjunction with our global partners such as Xpand International, Persolog and Shadowmatch, we are on a mission to “function as a strategic partnership platform for the creation and implementation of various Human Capital and Leadership Development processes, aimed at the optimization and empowerment of organisations in achieving greater success and significance.”

Based on a holistic Human Capital and Leadership development model, we offer seminars / workshops, coaching and consultation within a wide variety of organisational dynamics that include (a) Personal Mastery, (b) Team Mastery, (c) Performance Mastery, and (d) Organisational Mastery. For more information, please contact Marcel Hattingh directly on +27 (0)83 608 7139 or [email protected].

CCI School of Divinity – Prospectus 2018 Page 12 of 36 2. SCHOOL OF DIVINITY - 2018 2.1. OVERVIEW

The School of Divinity is a holistic training programme designed to equip people for full time ministry. The programme is focused on raising “sons and daughters” within the context of the local church by fulfilling the programme’s vision of “Equipping and training people who are called into full time ministry, to bring about city transformation.” In 2 Timothy 2:2 Paul instructs Timothy: “The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” In the School of Divinity we therefore believe in “Equipping you to equip others.”

In the City Changers Institute, we equip you to equip others

At the heart of the School of Divinity we constantly seek to find a balance between theory and practice by providing our students with a good and solid understanding regarding the application of theoretical information in the practical field. This balance is best illustrated through the following metaphor.

Picture a river running through the country. Some rivers, as many times found in desserts, are deep and narrow; resulting in the disappearance of the river when it often submerges below the surface. Other rivers, as commonly found in forests are wide but shallow, resulting in the river coming to a standstill in the form of a swamp. We believe that academic knowledge is the depth of the river, but without practical application a person frequently disappears from the scene. On the other hand, practical experience can be seen as the breath of the river, but without grounded academic knowledge that person most of the time comes to a standstill in their careers. In CCI we desire to see our students trained in both depth and breadth, in order that they will open up into the ocean of possibilities, like the mouth of a great river opens into the sea.

2.2. PROGRAMME FORMATS

The School of Divinity is presented in two formats – a 10 subject programme or 5 subject programme. There are various outcomes, prerequisites, recommendations and compulsory elements to each. Please refer to the following summaries when making your choice.

PLEASE NOTE! By choosing the 10 or 5 subject programmes we do not mean that 10 or 5 SATS subjects are compulsory. Each student is responsible for their own studies’ management and subject activations per quarter. The plans are SUGGESTED activation schedules in order to complete your degree timeously.

CCI School of Divinity – Prospectus 2018 Page 13 of 36 2.2.1. SoD suggested 10 subject programme

SoD 10 subject programme Recommended for:  Students who will have enough time to complete 10 SATS subjects per year (about 2-3 subjects per term).  Students who either have a sustainable stream of income, or have financial support from their parents/sponsors.

Please note! The 10 subject programme is not recommended for working adults who wish to grow into full time church employ. Due to time constraints, we recommend the 5 subject plan for such individuals. Prerequisites  Matric certificate. before entering  Access to, and willingness to do practical training at a Doxa Deo programme: church.  Approval from a Doxa Deo church’s leadership after an interview process.  A reference letter indicating from a credible source indicating that the student is eligible for ministry training with CCI and Doxa Deo. Recommendations  Metamorpho or similar programme (Target Life, Global before entering Challenge etc.) where character and spiritual development is an programme: outcome.

When students are under the age of 23, we seriously recommend them to enroll for such a programme. The assumption of SoD is that a person of such a degree of maturity that they can handle the basic pressures of church ministry with the added weight of their studies. Elements of  CCMP at Tshwane Main CCMP centre or at a CCMP learning programme: centre outside of Tshwane.  10 SATS subjects per year.  Mentoring and discipleship meetings once a month with an assigned mentor.  Orientation at the beginning of the year.  Quarterly academic contact sessions.  Practical involvement in ministry as the leadership of the church determines in consultation with the student. Duration: Usually 3-4 years, depending on the student’s progress in their academic studies.

2.2.2. SoD suggested 5 subject programme

SoD 5 subject programme Recommended for:  Adults who have family responsibilities  Working students who cannot leave their full time occupation due to financial reasons.

In our experience we have found working adults have a better chance of completing their degree on the 5 subject programme. If a student wishes, they can activate more subjects per year (for instance, 7

CCI School of Divinity – Prospectus 2018 Page 14 of 36 subjects in total for any academic year) if time and finances allow. However, 10 SATS subjects per year is usually too much work for a person with family and work responsibilities. Recommendations  Some of current ministry involvement before entering  Completed the 1st year of the CCMP programme: Elements of  CCMP at Tshwane Main CCMP centre or at a CCMP learning programme: centre outside of Tshwane.  5 SATS subjects per year.  Mentoring and discipleship meetings twice a quarter with assigned mentor.  Orientation at the beginning of the year.  Practical involvement in ministry as the leadership of the church determines in consultation with the student. Duration:  Usually 4-6 years, depending on the student’s progress in their academic studies.

2.3. TIME IMPLICATIONS

The 10 subject programme’s time implication is fairly standardised; however, 5 subject students have a considerable amount of flexibility. A general indication of what can be expected is as follows:

Aspect 10 subject students 5 subject students Academic studies 20 hours per week 9 hours minimum per subject. Subjects take more time as they progress to 2nd and 3rd year level. Practical training 20 hours maximum Minimum requirements: (including preparation and  Involvement in Sunday service meetings)  Some other ministry involvement during the week (1 weekday) Mentorship meeting 1 per month 2 per quarter CCMP 3 hours 3 hours Academic contact 4 hours per quarter n/a sessions Total ± 50 hours per week ± 15-20 hours per week

CCI School of Divinity – Prospectus 2018 Page 15 of 36 2.4. FIELDS OF SPECIALISATION

All students will by default be allocated to the Campus Ministry programme, if they do not apply to pursue one of the fields of specialisation. The basis for most of the specialised fields are the same as Campus Ministry with some additional outcomes and unique contexts of ministry:

1. Campus Ministry – The default option for all non-specialising students; designed for any person who wants to and lead a church.

2. Meta Ministry –This full time programme specialisation offers students the opportunity to prepare themselves for leadership within Metamorpho and is only available directly through Metamorpho in Tshwane. This option is based on a vigorous selection process by the Metamorpho leadership. Meta Ministry students will spend the bulk of their training within Metamorpho in order to become future Metamorpho leaders. Students will continue to join the Metamorpho leadership on all their programme activities and breakaways. For more information regarding this process, please contact the Metamorpho leadership directly.

CCI School of Divinity – Prospectus 2018 Page 16 of 36 3. PROGRAMME LAYOUT 3.1. MAIN UNDERGRADUATE COMPONENTS

The main undergraduate components of the School of Divinity programme are constructed from its fivefold strategy:

3.1.1. Accredited academic training

All students will complete an accredited three year BTh degree (360 credits) through the South African Theological Seminary1. Due to the format of distance learning in which the SATS degree is offered, the School of Divinity is not allowed to present any of these classes face to face. Therefore, as part of the student’s weekly programme, an adequate amount of study time needs to be allocated for this component. Full Time students are required to complete 120 credits (10 subjects) per academic year, while Part Time students will be required to complete no less than 60 credits (5 subjects) per year.

PLEASE NOTE! Direct your questions to CCI at [email protected]. No student may contact SATS directly to prevent communication gaps. Contacting SATS directly runs the risk of having the student expelled from the partnership.

If a student, for whatever reason, still wishes to enrol for SoD, but cannot complete their theological training through SATS but at a different institution, then the student must communicate this from the very beginning of their application. There are programme formats available where students complete (or have completed) their theological studies with other tertiary institutions and still enrol for SoD. However, SATS remains CCI’s primary partner and we can recommend their standards of academic excellence to anybody who wishes to complete formal academic studies.

3.1.2. Practical experience training

Students will engage in a variety of practical ministry outcomes during which they will be exposed, trained and evaluated. Practical training is divided into three main categories (a) Leadership, (b) Ministry, and (c) Management – which ranges from church based ministry, school and youth work, outreach, as well as a large variety of social upliftment work. Practical training occurs both during the week, as well as during Sunday church services at the local campus (church), depending on the programme format that the student has enrolled in.

The practical training outcomes have been designed to take into account the requirements by the South African Theological Seminary and the AFM of South Africa’s Ministry Integrated Learning Programme.

3.1.3. Mandate impartation

1 SATS is our preferred service provider for theological training. However, it is not the only service provider that a student can make use of. As long as the qualification is relevant for ministry and is accredited, the student can study with whatever institution they choose. However, note that this decision will have implications later on for ordination with the AFM.

CCI School of Divinity – Prospectus 2018 Page 17 of 36 The primary mechanism for mandate impartation is the CCMP and accompanying investment weekends.

CCMP - All students will attend the City Changers Ministry Programme from the start of their training. This is a comprehensive three year part-time programme that prepares a person for effective Market Place ministry while imparting the heart of the City Changers Mandate. Within the Pretoria context, it is presented in English on a Tuesday evening at the AGS Hatfield church from 18:00 till 21:00. Please contact your local learning centre for the CCMP schedule when staying outside of Pretoria. Students will engage in a one-hour practical, followed by a two hour theoretical session per week, facilitated by various ministry leaders and industry specialists.

Ministry Investment Weekends - Included in the CCMP are two Ministry Investment Weekends per year. One will be hosted at a Doxa Deo Campus (Friday and Saturday full day) while the second will be an Away Investment Weekend (Friday evening to Sunday afternoon). Students will also be responsible for their own transport, toll fees, food and accommodation for the local MIW; however, for the Away MIW, accommodation and food are included.

3.1.4. Leadership development

From a practical angle, students will be continuously exposed to church leadership and be required to take the lead as they progress in their studies. The mandate component has three eight week blocks of leadership impartation as part of the CCMP, and the mentoring and discipleship aspects also have a high degree of leadership discussions. Leadership development thus will happen organically on campus/church level as the student progresses in their studies. CCI, however, strongly endorses the leadership development training of Xpand international, who is also a direct partner of CCI Professional.

Please contact [email protected] for further assistance if you wish to learn more of the leadership programmes and seminars available.

3.1.5. Mentoring and discipleship

School of Divinity students will have the unique opportunity to be mentored and discipled by some of the finest leaders based at their local learning centre. The 10 subject students will have a minimum of one contact session per month with leadership team members, while 5 subject students will have one session per month. The mentoring and discipleship outcomes are based on the CCI development grid that was designed with the assistance of Xpand International:

CHARACTER (IMPARTATION) COMPETENCE (INFORMATION)

SPIRITUAL MINISTRY CALLING (Ministry) WEIGHT ENGAGEMENT EMOTIONAL LEADERSHIP RELATIONAL (Leadership) CALLING (IDENTITY) INTELLIGENCE PROFICIENCY INDUSTRY INDUSTRY OPERATIONAL (Management) ACUMEN OPERATIONS

CCI School of Divinity – Prospectus 2018 Page 18 of 36 3.2. APOSTOLIC FAITH MISSION ORDINATION

As a number of our students aim to be ordained as pastors following their School of Divinity programme; CCI has established a partnership arrangement with the AFM of South Africa’s Education and Training Department in order to achieve this outcome. In order therefore to be ordained, all graduate students will be required to complete the Ministry Integrated Learning (MIL) programme of the AFM. This programme consists of four additional AFM specific subjects (a) AFM History, (b) AFM Liturgy, (c) AFM Church Governance, and (d) Foundations in Pentecostal Theology; as well as a series of practical outcomes and four three-day contact sessions. The four subjects will be completed during the first six months of the MIL programme, while the rest of the outcomes are spread over a total of one year for full time students and two years for part time students. 4. SOUTH AFRICAN THEOLOGICAL SEMINARY (SATS)

SATS is the accredited qualification service provider of choice for all theology and School of Divinity students.

4.1. SEMINARY OVERVIEW

The South African Theological Seminary’s mission is to provide Biblical, Christocentric distance education and training to Christians, and leaders in particular, within their local church environment, to equip them to be Holy Spirit empowered members of God’s household.

The SATS vision: Bible-based – Christ-centred – Spirit-led

4.2. ACCREDITATION AND REGISTRATION

The following programmes are accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE), the Education and Training Quality Assurer (ETQA) of the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) and are registered by the Department of Higher Education (registration number 2001/HE08/005):  Higher Certificate in Christian Counselling  Higher Certificate in Christian Life  Bachelor of Theology  Bachelor of Theology Honours  Master of Theology  Doctor of Philosophy in Theology

SATS is registered as a Section 21 company (Reg. no. 2002/005184/08), a PBO (18/11/13/2403) and an NPO (033-343-NPO). SATS is also a founder member of the National Association of Distance Education Organisations in South Africa (NADEOSA) and they are a member of the Association of Private Providers of Education, Training and Development (APPETD), the South African Institute for Distance Education (SAIDE), the International Council for Evangelical Theological Education (ICETE), the International Council for Higher Education (ICHE), the CHEA International Quality Group (CIQG) and the World Evangelical Theological Institute Association (WETIA).

SATS’s accreditation and Department of Education registration provide assurance that the quality of our programmes is of the highest standard. Their programmes are therefore nationally and internationally comparable and the credits earned with them are truly “portable”, i.e. they can be transferred to other accredited, registered institutions. The increasing number of international students confirms the acceptability of their programmes around the world. Recently their MTh and PhD programmes were submitted to two of the most frequently used and highly recommended evaluators in the USA, namely the International Education Research Foundation, Inc. (www.ierf.org) and the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers’ International Education Services (http://ies.aacrao.org), and both confirmed that these degrees represent attainment of a level of education comparable to the equivalent degrees from a regionally accredited university in the United States. Their degrees are also recognised by the German website www.anabin.kmk.org which provides information about the evaluation of foreign qualifications.

4.3. ADVANTAGES OF STUDYING THROUGH SATS

When you study with SATS you meet a team of educators who are creative, innovative, dedicated and passionate about the way they teach and deliver their courses. They are aware that it is crucial to balance business, careers, home and studies. There are various advantages of studying through SATS, but the most prominent are: 1. Full online learning. No classes need to be attended with the entire learning experience occurring online. 2. Proper feedback of assessors to show you not just that you did something wrong or right, by why. 3. An accessible activation system which is flexible and available throughout the entire year. 4. Excellent academic standards addressing relevant topics for the current situation of ministry.

4.4. CCI & SATS PARTNERSHIP

The South African Theological Seminary strives to establish strong, working partnerships with a number of ministries, seminaries and colleges. However, due to legal implications, SATS partners do not become SATS learning centres, but only points of contact and provision of assistance to students. Every student will therefore independently of their local partnership body still enrol as a SATS student for the duration of their studies. The local partnership body will however assist the student with this enrolment. Consequently, the City Changers Institute and the South African Theological Seminary have established such a partnership. As part of the partnership agreement, all students will receive a discount on their SATS subjects.

As a CCI student, you receive a discount on all your study fees.

Prospective students will therefore have no need for any direct contact with the SATS, since the City Changers Institute Administrator will do all correspondence on the student’s behalf. This includes enrolment, applying for recognition of prior learning, activation of subjects, exams, payments and graduations. The only direct access which students will have with SATS is via the student’s MySats webpage (see MySats webpage for more detail).

For further details on SATS studies please consult the the SATS prospectus 2018.

CCI School of Divinity – Prospectus 2018 Page 21 of 36 5. CURRICULUM COMPONENTS 5.1 BACHELORS IN THEOLOGY (SATS)

SATS offers a wide variety of subjects spread over 3 years for a BTh qualification. All subjects are worth a total of 12 credits; consequently, a student will have to do 10 subjects to successfully complete each academic year. The School of Divinity programme follows a standardised curriculum with fewer electives.

5.2 MANAGING YOUR OWN SATS CURRICULUM

The best part about studying through SATS is that the student is in full control of his ow curriculum, and therefore, the pace of his studies. However, before you are able to manage your own curriculum, there are a view rules of engagement you need to understand.

5.2.1 The MySats TIMETABLE The Seminary’s academic year runs from 1st of February to the 30th of January. The year is divided into four terms as indicated below:

Term 1 Term 2 Term 3 Term 4 1st Feb to 30th Apr 1st May to 30th July 1st Aug to 30th Oct 1st Nov to 30th Jan T1 – Registrations T2 – Registrations T3 – Registrations T4 – Registrations 10th Jan to 20th Jan 10th Apr to 20th Apr 10th July to 20th July 10th Oct to 20th Oct Table 1: Four Terms (Quarters)

All the undergraduate courses are offered in two of the four terms. All courses are standardised on 12 credits per course.

EXAMPLE: CCI will provide you with a quarterly updated email to indicate which subjects are available in the term. Let’s suppose that you want to activate Essential Bible Study Principles (BIB1121). However, it is Term 1 (February to April). You will have to wait until term 2’s activations (1 May to 30 July) to activate BIB1121. Instead, choose another subject which is available in term 1, like BIB1123 or THE1120.

PLEASE NOTE! Each SATS academic year consists of 10 courses. You first have to complete all the courses in a given academic year before you can start activating courses in the following years.

5.2 CCMP CURRICULUM

Students will engage in two theoretical classes and one practical class per evening; eight evenings per quarter, four quarters per year, over the duration of three years. The curriculum will therefore consist of approximately 192 theoretical and 96 practical classes in total. Each year and quarter will have a specific focus or theme that is connected with the CCI BTh subjects such as Systematic Theology and the Leadership subjects. Though students will attend the CCMP classes, they are still required to activate these subjects within the necessary terms as they will only receive the academic assignment portfolios once the subject has been activated.

CCI School of Divinity – Prospectus 2018 Page 22 of 36 5.2.1 Mandate Curriculum Component

50% of the curriculum focuses on the City Changers Mandate Message. The mandate is set up in three main categories of (a) Knowing God, (b) Loving people, and (c) Impacting my world. Each one of these three categories is sub-divided into another three categories or themes, while each of these three sub-categories are further divided into seven message components following a theme introduction lesson. Each of the three thematic sub-categories therefore also corresponds to a calendar quarter, leaving one quarter per year for the leadership development focus.
