The speaker recognized Representative Miles who introduced Dr. Gusta Booker, senior pastor, Greater St. Matthew Church, Houston, who offered the invocation as follows: Dear Heavenly Father, we come to you this hour asking for your blessing and help as we are gathered together to do the business of the people. We pray for guidance in the matters at hand, and we ask that you will clearly show us how to conduct our work with a spirit of joy and enthusiasm. Give us the desire to find ways to excel in our work for the people s' interest. We ask that we would challenge each other to reach higher and further to accomplish all that we can for our constituents. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen. The speaker recognized Representative VanDeaver who led the house in the pledges of allegiance to the United States and Texas flags. 286 84th LEGISLATURE Ð REGULAR SESSION LEAVES OF ABSENCE GRANTED The following members were granted leaves of absence for today because of important business in the district: Burrows on motion of Frullo. Martinez Fischer on motion of NevaÂrez. Murphy on motion of Schaefer. J. Rodriguez on motion of Collier. M. White on motion of Schaefer. CAPITOL PHYSICIAN The speaker recognized Representative Howard who presented Dr.iRita Schindeler-Trachta of Austin as the "Doctor for the Day." The house welcomed Dr. Schindeler-Trachta and thanked her for her participation in the Physician of the Day Program sponsored by the Texas Academy of Family Physicians. (Paul in the chair) REGULAR ORDER OF BUSINESS SUSPENDED On motion of Representative Burkett and by unanimous consent, the reading and referral of bills was postponed until just prior to adjournment. RESOLUTIONS ADOPTED Representative Miles moved to suspend all necessary rules to take up and consider at this time the following congratulatory resolutions. The motion prevailed. The following resolutions were laid before the house: HR 473 (by Miles), Honoring Rev. James E. Nash of Houston for his decades of leadership at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in the Sunnyside community. HR 474 (by Miles), Honoring Howard N. Sacks for his leadership and service to the citizens of Houston as the first President of the Willow Waterhole Greenspace Conservancy. HR 476 (by Miles), Honoring Willie Belle Boone of Houston for her longtime dedication to the State of Texas and the community in District 146. HR 477 (by Miles), Honoring Becky Edmondson of Houston for her community service to the citizens of District 146. The resolutions were adopted. On motion of Representative S. Turner, the names of all the members of the house were added to HRi473, HRi474, HRi476, HRi477, and HRi478ias signers thereof. INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS The chair recognized Representative Miles who introduced a delegation from Houston. The following resolution was laid before the house: HR 471, Recognizing February 12, 2015, as Texas Game Warden Day at the State Capitol. HR 471 was adopted. On motion of Representatives Fletcher and Clardy, the names of all the members of the house were added to HRi471 as signers thereof.
