WEEK 5 (DEC. 11-13, 2020) 2 wcha.com WCHA TO CELEBRATE 70 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE IN 2020-21 #WEAREWCHA The Men’s League of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association will celebrate seven decades of history this season the league announced Nov. 9.

Beginning in the December, the league will announce a series of All-Decade Teams and a Coach and Player of the Decade for the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and 2010s. All current and former WCHA member institutions were asked to submit nominees for consideration and nearly 200 current and former players and coaches were nominated. The honorees will be selected by a panel of current and former WCHA staff and media members who have covered the league.

“As the oldest college hockey league in the NCAA, the Western Collegiate Hockey Association has established A Tradition of Excellence since its founding in 1951,” WCHA Men’s League Commissioner Bill Robertson said. “Our alumni include some of the greatest players in intercollegiate and professional hockey and we are excited to recognize their excellence during the years they competed in the WCHA.”

Double Shutout: Michigan Tech netminder Mark Sinclair found himself in a familiar spot in the Huskies' season opener at Lake Superior State on Nov. 21. The Huskies and Lakers battled for 65 minutes with neither team finding the back of the net. The scoreless tie was the seventh in the WCHA since 2013 and the second in a row involving both Lake State and Sinclair. The Lakers and Alabama Huntsville skated to the most-recent double shutout on Feb. 14, 2020 with Sinclair between the pipes for the Chargers that night in the Soo.

Falcon Quartet Tops WCHA Active Leaders: The Bowling Green forward quartet of Max Johnson, Brandon Kruse, Connor Ford and Cameron Wright sit atop nearly all of the WCHA's statistical categories for active players. Kruse leads all WCHA skaters in points (113), assists (84) and games (125) while Johnson tops the goals (42), power- play goals (23) and game-winning goals (10) lists. Johnson is also second to Kruse in points and assists while Ford ranks second in PPG and third in points, goals and assists and tied for third in games. Wright ranks second in goals and third in PPG. Johnson is tied for fi fth in games played with teammate Sam Craggs while Wright ranks seventh.
