[fieldguides.fieldmuseum.org] [1086] version 1 11/2018 La Mancha is a natural reserve area managed by Instituto de Ecología, A. C. The reserve comprises several vegetation types in only 82.29 ha. In this natural reserve, butterflies are very common and they are an important insect group as flower visitors. The butterfly species in this guide were collected from six vegetation types distributed in this tropical coastal ecosystem. The aim of this guide is to provide knowledge about the diversity of butterflies to local people, for educational proposes and ecotourism. The images in this field guide include the dorsal and ventral position of each butterfly species with 1-cm scale. Risk Assessment for Adult Butterflies Exposed to the Mosquito Control Pesticide Naled

BARGAR* Southeast Ecological Science Center, U.S. Geological Survey, Gainesville, Florida (Submitted 22 June 2011; Returned for Revision 11 October 2011; Accepted 23 November 2011) Abstract—A prospective risk assessment was conducted for adult butterflies potentially exposed to the mosquito control insecticide naled. Published acute mortality data, exposure data collected during field studies, and morphometric data (total surface area and fresh body weight) for adult butterflies were combined in a probabilistic estimate of the likelihood that adult butterfly exposure to naled following aerial applications would exceed levels associated with acute mortality. Adult butterfly exposure was estimated based on the product of (1) naled residues on samplers and (2) an exposure metric that normalized total surface area for adult butterflies to their fresh weight. The likelihood that the 10th percentile refined effect estimate for adult butterflies exposed to naled would be exceeded following aerial naled applications was 67 to 80%. The greatest risk would be for butterflies in the family Lycaenidae, and the lowest risk would be for those in the family Hesperidae, assuming equivalent sensitivity to naled. A range of potential guideline naled deposition levels is presented that, if not exceeded, would reduce the risk of adult butterfly mortality. The results for this risk assessment were compared with other risk estimates for butterflies, and the implications for adult butterflies in areas targeted by aerial naled applications are discussed. -

We infer a robust phylogenetic hypothesis for the tribe despite moderate support in some derived clades. -

Biology of Anaea Ryphea (Nymphalidae) in Campinas, Brazil
Journal of the Lepidopterists' Society 48(3), 1994, 248-257 BIOLOGY OF ANAEA RYPHEA (NYMPHALIDAE) IN CAMPINAS, BRAZIL ASTRID CALDAS Dcpartamento de Biologia Animal e Vegetal-IB, Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro, RJ 20550-013, Brazil ABSTRACT. Anaea ryphea uses Croton fioribundus (Euphorbiacae) as its main larval food plant at Campinas, Brazil. Weekly censuses of the immature stages of A. ryphea were conducted from September 1988 to August 1989. Adults and larvae were found only from December through May. Females usually laid one egg per leaf and exhibited no plant height preference. Within individuals plants, most eggs were laid on the inter mediate leaves; they were rare on the lowest and absent on the apical, new leaves. The complete life cycle in the fi eld lasts 50 to 60 days. The pattern of devclopment in A. ryphea is similar to that described for 5 other species of Anaea. The early stages resemble closely those described for A. eurypyle, which also uses a species of Croton as its larval food plant in El Salvador. Additional key words: Hypna clytemnestra, life cycle, Memphis, Croton, Euphor biaceae. The genus Anaea Hubner includes most of the Neotropical Char axinae, although use of the generic name varies considerably among authors. Comstock (1961) assigned to Anaea the species now considered members of the Anaea troglodyta group. He used Memphis Hubner, formerly described as a generic name, as a subgenus for most of the other species of Anaea, including the blue species and A. ryphea (Cra mer). Rydon (1971) subdivided the group further, describing Foun tainea, into which he transferred ryphea. -

FAMILY LOVE: A MEMOIR AND WRITING FAMILY LOVE: AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL NOVEL TO MEMOIR, AN EXEGESIS JUDY ROSEMARY SCOTT (ka Rosie) A thesis submitted in fulfilment of the requirements for The degree of Doctor of Creative Arts In College of Arts School of Humanities and Languages UNIVERSITY OF WESTERN SYDNEY AUSTRALIA (2006) ABSTRACT When I first started thinking about writing Family Love I wanted to write it as an autobiographical novel. This meant a radical departure from my usual writing methods. For one thing, it was the first time in my writing life that I was interested in the conscious use of a period in my life as material for a novel. I had never before attempted this and felt a certain amount of apprehension in abandoning tried and true approaches for something so new and risky. The label, autobiographical novel, seemed to define most accurately for the purposes and process of the thesis what were in fact a series of decisions, vacillations and rationalisations. An autobiographical novel seemed the best form for what I wanted from Family Love, a book that combined the fictional momentum and surprises of a novel with the added depth of personal and political material consciously drawn from real life and living people. I believed that the detailed evocation of a specific time and place my childhood and early adolescence in Sandringham and Titirangi in New Zealand, aided by diaries and memory would allow the story to follow its own fictional bent, and to have the emotionally truthful resonance of fiction without necessarily being completely factual. Methods Basic digitization protocols and metadata standards can be found in (Shepard et al. 2018). Identifications were confirmed by Jon Shepard and Paul Hammond prior to digitization. Nomenclature follows that of (Pelham 2008). Results The holdings in these two families are extensive. Combined, they make up 25,743 specimens (24,598 Lycanidae and 1145 Riodinidae). -

The History of Tippecanoe County Compiled by Quinten Robinson, Tippecanoe County Historian THE SETTING Tippecanoe County, located in west-central Indiana, is about 65 miles northwest of Indianapolis and 100 miles southeast of Chicago. Tippecanoe County is 21 miles east to west and 24 miles north to south and Lafayette, the county seat, is situated on the banks of the Wabash nearly in the center. About one-half the surface consists of broad, fertile, and nearly level plains. The balance consists of gently rolling uplands, steep hillsides or rich alluvial bottoms. Occasional wetlands or bogs are found but those were largely drained by the beginning of the 20th century. The Wabash River flows nearly through the middle of Tippecanoe County from northeast to southwest. Tributaries to the Wabash River that drain the north and west parts of Tippecanoe County are the Tippecanoe River, Burnett Creek, Indian Creek, and Little Pine Creek. Draining the south and east parts of the county are Sugar Creek, Buck Creek, North, South and Middle Forks of the Wildcat Creek, Wea Creek, and Flint Creek. Besides Lafayette, cities and towns in Tippecanoe County are West Lafayette, the home of Purdue University, Battle Ground, West Point, Otterbein, Dayton, Clarks Hill, Romney, Stockwell, Americus, Colburn & Buck Creek. In 2010 county population was set at 172,780 PREHISTORIC TIPPECANOE COUNTY The terrain, the Wabash River, and the creeks you see today in Tippecanoe County came to their present condition about 10,000 years ago as the last continental glacier retreated northward leaving a vastly different landscape than what had existed before the advance of the ice sheets began over 700,000 years ago.
