VIEWING: Sunday 2nd December 2018 11.00am – 4.00pm Monday 3rd December 2018 9.00am – 5.00pm Tuesday 4th December 2018 9.00am – 5.00pm Art + Objects final auction of the year features a beautiful collection of early New Zealand first editions with some scarce and important books, documents and Maori printings from a major private Auckland library. It also features scarce publications by Katherine Mansfield including early issues of the Australian periodical ‘The Native Companion’ with her first published works, as well as the rare first edition of ‘In a German Pension’ published by Stephen Swift in 1911. Colonial art includes historic paintings by John Gully, H.G. Robley, John Gibb, W.S. Hatton as well as early rare lithographs of John Williams South Seas published by John Snow and original Baxter prints of the reception and the massacre of the Rev’d John Williams. Of special interest is a signed copy of Caesar of the Skies by Beau Sheil with fifteen inscriptions and signatures of aviators, aircrew and people associated with the ‘Southern Cross’ Other major items are a collection of early New Zealand rugby books from the library of Kevin Lewis well known historian, rugby coach and player it, includes David Gallaher’s ‘Why the All Blacks Triumphed’, London 1906 and other early uncommon editions.
