Dear Parents,

OFSTED: as you are all aware, we had our long-anticipated OFSTED inspection last week (which is why this newsletter is a week late). The team were very professional and fair, and as soon as the report is official, we will let you know the outcome.

Norfolk Winter School Games Finals 2015

This year we have had 15 of our children representing Wicklewood (and the Schools) at the Winter School Games.

Cross Country Final

Day 2 of the Games Finals saw over 600 Yr 3-6 pupils from across the County represented their local School Sport Partnership in the Cross Country Finals at Gresham’s School in Holt. The conditions were challenging with high winds battering the runners as they tackled the challenging course around the school grounds. Three of our year 4s participated; Charlie Hodge came 10th; Madison Kelly came 12th; and Nellie Ong came 14th. A fantastic effort from them all. Well done!

CROSS COUNTRY EVENT AT GRESHAMS written by Charlie Hodge (Y4).

On Monday 2nd March 2015 I went to Gresham’s School in Holt to run a cross country of 1200 metres. It was my year 4 race and it took 2 hours until I ran. I was nervous but happy that I went through. The practice started and then there were 10 minutes until it started. I did practices like I have never done. Finally the run started and there were 80 people running. (I was at the front of the line). The run started and I was about 14th. I was doing really well. When I was half way I was about 10th. It was then the end of the race and I thought that I had done rubbish but I came 10th overall. I got a well done from Maddy K. I left and had a celebration at the ‘Pigs’. Everyone thought that I had done really well. Tag Rugby Final 2015

Day 4 of the Games saw young people from across the County travel to Diss Rugby Club to take part in the 2015 Norfolk School Games Tag Rugby Finals. The event included two separate competitions; an open Yr 5-6 competition for schools of any sized and a Yr 4-6 small schools competition for schools who have less than 125 pupils. During the morning session, teams were split into two pools within each competition with teams playing against each other in a round robin format. Once all of the matches were completed and the results were added together, the teams that finished in 1st and 2nd place in each pool were invited to take part in the afternoons Cup Competition, with the teams that finished 3rd and 4th in each group going into the Plate competition. Both the Plate and Cup competitions were again split into two pools with approx. 4 teams in each. The afternoon saw some close matches with teams coming up against other teams of similar abilities. At the end of the afternoons matches the teams that finished in 1st place in each pool competed against each other to decide the final overall placing for the days competition.

The headline final standings were for the Big Schools Competition Cup Competition; 1st – Wicklewood Primary School (South Norfolk SSP) 2nd – Falcon Junior School ( East SSP) 3rd – Cliff Park Junior School (East Norfolk SSP)

The following children represented Wicklewood – Ted Cross, Millie Edge, Ben Edwards, Ollie Leary, Hugo Leivers, Evelyn Merryweather, Lewys Money, Freya Myhill, Finn Pharaoh, Neha Shammy, Dan Snook, Jonny White

Waste Week (2nd-6th March 2015)

The theme this year was recycling plastic bottles. Children had to fill in a diary at home to see how many plastic bottles we use and how many we recycle. Each class did an activity centred around Reduce, Re-use, Recycle and presented their work at Celebration Assembly. The children came up with lots of ideas. Nursery and Wren made animals from bottles, and Kestrel sang a song. Kingfisher made posters and also plastic flowers from old bottles which will be used to decorate the area outside Wren.

Kingfisher Class show their flowers on a trellis made from plastic bottles.
