1. School welcome and information

Dear student, We are delighted to welcome you to your new English course. There are seven classrooms in inlingua Edinburgh, all colour-coded. There is a floor plan (see below) of the centre on the notice board, you can find it to the right of the entrance hall. This plan will help you find which classroom you are in. Apart from the floor plan, you can find other useful information on the notice board. If you are studying in a group, the student list will tell you what group you are in and who your classmates will be, as well as the other students studying in the institute. The names of the English groups always refer to Scottish islands (i.e. Iona, Eigg, Uist etc.). Above this list you can find your timetable, where you can check which room your group is in. If you are having private lessons, your name will not be under any group. You can look up your surname on the timetable and find which room you are in. The notice board also has information on local events in and around the institute like ceilidhs (Scottish dance evenings), concerts, parties and community activities. The toilets are situated on the right-hand side, towards the end of the corridor.

Student Welcome Pack 2017 ` www.inlingua-edinburgh.co.uk

Our morning lessons start at 9:30 and finish at 12:45. There is a coffee break at 11:00. All the lessons stop at this time of the day and you can go to the Students’ Room where you can have some free coffee, tea and water. This is also an ideal time to come and chat to the rest of the students, practice what you've learned and, hopefully, make some new friends. We rotate our teachers between groups/students twice per week. This means that you and the other students are exposed to a variety of different accents and teaching styles, making the lessons more varied and closer to real-life situations. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me or any other person working at reception.

We have free Wi-Fi in every room! The network is BTHub3-FSMP The password is 7625fc8ae4.

Finally, inlingua Edinburgh follows a UK-wide non-smoking policy, so if you are a smoker, we are sorry but you will have to go outside. We wish you a very happy stay in inlingua Edinburgh and hope you enjoy the lessons! And, again, please don't hesitate to contact either me directly, our receptionists or your teachers should you have any questions or concerns about your course.

Kind regards,

Roland Becker Centre Director

2. FIRE SAFETY RULES AND DRILL

In the unlikely case of a fire, all students must calmly leave their classrooms and vacate the premises using the fire escape route (see figure 1). The Office Manager will lead all the students and members of staff downstairs to the fire safety point (marked ‘X’ on figure 2). This is on the corner of Shandwick Place and Stafford Street, outside the church. All students will remain here until further notice. See diagram below for further details.

If a fire breaks out in the building, students and staff should:

• Remain calm. • Follow the Office Manager to the fire safety point downstairs. • Remain at the fire safety point until the Centre Director / Emergency Services say otherwise.
