Fans have been used for a long time to keep people cool and fashionable.

Fans were really popular in the Victorian 1800s. Many were decorated with feathers and fancy designs.

Fans were also used to advertise businesses. An advertising fan had a nice picture on one side of the fan and the ad on the other side.

Fans were especially important in Alabama before air conditioning because of the long hot summers.

Paper Stick Fan

Directions:

1. Cut out the oval shape.

2. Decorate the oval shape with crayons, markers, feathers, or sparkles.

3. Glue a wooden stick to the bottom of the paper.

4. Wait for the glue to dry and you have a fan!
