HOMER HAPPY After a four-homer week, Morganne Flores now has 11 home runs on the season and 32 in her career. She has the most home runs of any Pac-12 player not playing for an Arizona school. Over her last eight games, Flores has seven home runs, including her third and fourth multi-homer games. Flores needs just one home run to tie Julia DePonte for 12th in UW history. The redshirt junior is one of ten Huskies ever with multiple double-digit homer seasons: only Ali Aguilar, Kylee Lahners, Kristen Rivera, and Jaime Clark have had more than two seasons with 10+ homers. REWRITING THE RECORDS Taran Alvelo hit a number of milestones last week. The senior won her 91st game, putting her fourth in UW history behind Danielle Lawrie, Jennifer Spediacci, and Tia Bollinger. She also passed Caitlin Noble for fourth in UW history in with her 758th. Alvelo is fifth in UW history in shutouts with 26 and will move to third with her 27th, tying her with Ashley Boek and Eve Gaw. Only seven pitchers in UW history have a better career ERA than Alvelo’s 2.09 (min. 100 appearances). THIS ONE’S FOR YOU, COACH Sis Bates’ single on Sunday against Oregon State gave her 181 career hits, tying the junior with Heather Tarr for 26th in UW history. Only eight Huskies in history with a minimum of 100 games played have higher career batting averages than Bates’ .365 mark. She is the eighth player in the Pac-12 with 40+ hits this season and is on a pace for her third straight season of 60+ hits. PLAIN (NO TRAIN OR AUTOMOBILE) Gabbie Plain recorded her 300th career last weekend in her 251st inning. Only Danielle Lawrie and Caitlin Noble have reached 300 strikeouts faster in their Husky careers. Plain is now fifth in the Pac-12 in strikeouts this season, making her and Taran Alvelo the only duo of teammates in the top five in strike- outs in the conference. She had her tenth appearance this season allowing one or fewer hits last weekend: she has only allowed runs to score in eight appearances. THE QUEENS OF THE K Washington is the only team in the country with two pitchers with 130+ strikeouts on the season, with Taran Alvelo and Gabbie Plain each surpassing that mark. Oklahoma, Texas, and Western Kentucky are the only other teams with two pitchers in the nation’s top 20 in K/9. Thanks in part to this duo, Washington is fifth in the country in strikeout to walk ratio at 4.91. EXPLANATION OPS+: On-base percentage plus slugging percentage that is then standardized to a 100 scale, with 100 being league average and each point above or below being one percentage point better or worse. wOBA: Similar to batting average, this stat weighs each type of hit (single, double, triple, home run) or un- intentional walk with how rare they are and how much they increase win percentage. This stat is based on a similar scale to on-base percentage: a wOBA over .350 translates similarly to how tough it is to have an on-base percentage of .350. wRC: This stat shows how many runs an individual player was worth for their team: by combining a number of offensive statistics and comparing it to the league norm, this comes up with a single number that shows a batter’s overall production in terms of runs created for the team. wRC+: Similar to wRC, but standardized to a 100 scale, so that 100 is league average and each point above or below being one percentage point better or worse. FIP: Fielding independent pitching. This statistic measures only those outcomes directly controllable by a pitcher (home runs, walks, HBP, and strikeouts) and standardizes it to a similar scale as ERA, meaning that a 2.50 FIP would illustrate that a pitcher has performed roughly to the ability of a 2.50-ERA pitcher when excluding the defense’s contributions. ERA+: This statistics standardizes a pitcher’s ERA to 100, with 100 being league average and each point above or below being on percentage point better or worse. This only takes ERA into account. K%: The percentage of plate appearances ending in a strikeout. BB%: The percentage of plate appearances ending in a walk.
