Ted Turner’s Vermejo Park Ranch near Raton has been aggressively marketing itself this past year, highlighted most recently by glowing column penned by Joshua Berman for The Denver Post. Yet, if you are also interested in spending a night at the ranch, it won’t come cheap. Reservations at the Ted Turner Reserve start with double-occupancy room rates beginning at $1,200 a night. That rate includes the room, three meals and two daily activities (horseback rid- ing, fishing, mountain biking, hiking, sporting clays, 5-stand, 3-D archery, geocach- ing, and disc golf). Guided wildlife and ranch tours are available for an additional fee. Though Berman, for his part, focused on seeing wild game on the property dur- ing a tour and the luxurious lodgings and meals at the now high-end ecotourism operation.
