Community Corner – Rolling Greens Village Community Corner – Rolling Greens Village Community Corner – Rolling Greens Village Resident and World Traveler Joe Tomlinson Scores His 1st Hole-In-One at Rolling Greens Village at age 82! In a lifetime of enjoying golf around the world in some 60 countries and 50 states, winter resident Joe Tomlinsin, finally scored his first hole-in-one right here at Rolling Greens golf club on May 14th. When he aced the 129- yard 3rd hole with a 7-iron, just 15 days shy of his 82nd birthday. Will the pin located back and a little left of center, and Tomlinson swinging from blue tees, the high-arching shot hit about 14 inches left of the cup and rolled very slowly and slightly back into the hole. “BINGO… ACE…HALLELUJAH…a HOLE-IN-ONE, FINALLY!” “It took a long time.” Joe said, “I’ve been swinging a golf club since I was 9 or 10.” “That’s over 70 years.” Tomlinson was playing with his friend and neighbor Rick Vasoli who just missed a hole-in-one the day before with Tomlinson at his side a RGV. “Joe’s shot was beautiful” Rick said. He should know about such thing. In the last 12 months Rick scored his first hole-in-one, at the 5th and 11th hole. Joe’s 7-iron is part of his 30-year-old set of ben Hogan signature brand clubs. Just a few days before the ACE, the head of that 7- iron came off during tee shot at the 11th hole landing down the fairway. Joe called on his friend Monte Chittum, another resident, to repair the club. Monte responded by gluing the club head back on and retuned it to Joe. Monet is a retired PGA professional, known for his booming drives. Two days later Joe scored his hole-in-one, then more magic occurred from him while playing with daughter Lorrie. On that following Sunday evening, during Only once did he ever come close to scoring a th a practice round, Joe droves at the 110-yard 5 hole hole-in-one, “less than 2 inches short” he said. CONGRATULATIONS I want to nominate Linda Lee Krebs for the Surprise & Delight award. What can I say about Linda, I have known Linda for 5 years now. I met her playing cards, and enjoyed her attitude, she is very outgoing, and has many friends in RGV, she is very creative, and artistic, although I cannot paint well, I enjoyed her painting classes. She loves her family and friends, enjoys entertaining, and helping people enjoy a party! She is lived in the park for many years, and I know she misses her husband greatly, it’s great she now has her son and family here. She can organize any event that you may like to do in RGV. She helps me with the newsletters, and many other things in RGV. I love watching her and her friends dance at many events, sometimes I even join in! I want to thank her for giving us the opportunity to know such an outgoing person. Thank you, Linda!

Library Corner – Barbara Critchfield

RG Library Corner by Barbara Critchfield

July is right around the corner! Are you warm enough? My husband Mike and I are in Ohio for the summer. It rained almost every day after we arrived but has gotten plenty warm now. I’m glad that our neighborhood pool is now open so we can cool off in the afternoons. All the recent rain has brought out lots of flowers and weeds along with the flowers. I spent two afternoons cleaning up the weeds in perennial beds in the backyard, but wished I was working in my Rolling Greens Garden plot instead. I now have one cherry tomato plant and some green beans planted in the backyard, but it will be a long time till harvest.

As I’ve mentioned before, the Library has lots of beautiful books about gardening if you need some new ideas for flowers to brighten up your yard. I hope to see some pictures of the beautiful yards this summer in the R G News.

Mark your calendars so you don’t miss the 4th of July celebrations in Rolling Greens. There’s info on the Forum, on the Rolling Greens Facebook page and I’m sure there is a poster on the table in the Community Center. Be sure to sign up at the Concierge Desk by June 30 for the BBQ. Join in the Golf Cart Parade and the Pool Party and have a great holiday.

If you like to barbeque at home, the Library has several books just for you. One that I recall is titled, “Grilling 101”. Another has recipes using beer and special sauces. Take a look at the books in the cookbook section on the top shelf to the left of the computer.

Welcome to all the new residents. I hope you’ve had a chance to visit the Library. It’s open from 8 AM until 10 PM every day. You may borrow any books, magazines, movies, books-on-tape and music on the honor system. Just borrow, enjoy and return the items for someone else to enjoy.

Have a great Summer. See you in the Fall.

Book Reviews

WIN by Harlan Coben

Published 03/16/2021. Book Review by Mike Critchfield

Rated 4.16/5 on Goodreads. My rating: 4.6/5 Warning: Contains numerous sexual scenes. Reveals the lifestyle of the rich. The main character clearly believes that life is not black & white but mostly gray.

RGV Book Club

This book has a very intricate and complicated plot. You will need to focus intensely if you expect to see this through to the end. While I could never truly explain what all this book encompasses, I will share with you a few words from the publisher as to what it is about: “Over twenty years ago, the heiress Patricia Lockwood was abducted during a robbery of her family's estate, then locked inside an isolated cabin for months. Patricia escaped, but so did her captors — and the items stolen from her family were never recovered.” If you were a fan of Cold Case that ran on CBS from 2003 to 2010, you will just love this book. The author is one of my favorites and I have read 19 of his books thus far, counting this one. You really cannot go wrong with Harlan Coben.

Believe a film by Billy Dickson. Believe PG 1h 59min Released 12/2/2016.

RGV Book Club

It is amazing what can happen if you just Believe! This is a good movie to watch if you ever need to be uplifted. The performance by Isaac Ryan Brown as Clarence Joseph (CJ) is truly remarkable. In a small town going through tough economic times, business owner Matthew Peyton (Ryan O'Quinn) struggles between his desire for financial success and the responsibility of funding the annual Christmas pageant. Desperate business decisions ruin his popularity and angry employees seek their revenge. When Matthew meets Clarence (Isaac Ryan Brown), a joyful boy who believes in miracles, he must make a choice: do what's best for himself or give faith a chance by opening his heart to help his community.

It Thursday of each month. would be greatly appreciated if everyone is to rinse off in the shower outside before coming into the pool to rid skin of any lotions, tanning oils, or any excess oils from any creams you had put on prior (sunscreen is always fine to have on in the pools). We are trying to keep the pools running at 100% every day for you.

Thank you for taking this extra step.

Rolling Greens Village, A 55+ Cove Community

From the Managers Desk – Chris Alcaraz

We have had a very busy month at Rolling Greens Village. We have welcomed over 40 new residents in the last 5 weeks, we have almost completed the painting project at the office, we have added 2 new maintenance techs Chuck & Dave, moved Terrell from the community center up to the office to work as a team with our new receptionist Barbara and have promoted Kerri from her recent role to cover the office administrator position that Nichole held. Nichole has made the decision to accept a Office Hours position with another company. I am so sad to see Nichole go but I am Monday- Friday, 8am-5pm Saturday, 10am-4pm very happy that she has been given this opportunity and I wish her all my Sunday, 12pm-4pm best.

After-Hours# (813) 274-2033 I would like to highlight 3 important items this month: Office# (352) 624-0140 1.
