Knowledge Building in Gerontological Social Work (SWK 4513) Master’s Program, Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto, (Winter 2006, Winter 2008, Winter 2009; Winter 2010, Winter 2011, Winter 2012, Winter 2014) I designed and taught this advanced research methods course for the gerontological stream of the MSW program. Students conducted a modified systematic review including submitting a protocol, searching multiple computerized data sets, searching the European and

57 North American gray literature and calculating effect sizes. Students are encouraged to submit their final product for publication in the peer reviewed literature.

It is a required core course for all MSW students.

Social Work Research II - Module on Survey Methods, Sampling and Statistics (SWK 4502) Master’s Program, Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto Autumn 1999, Spring 2000, Autumn 2000, Spring 2001, Autumn 2001 (2 sections), Autumn 2004 (course coordinator from 1999 to 2001 with 4-6 sections per semester) I was involved in the original conceptualization of the module method of teaching this course. I designed and taught the required module on methods, sampling and statistical analysis. This module is one of four in the two-term research methods course SWK 4501/4502. In 1999/2000, this course was taught as SWK 4507/4508.

Social Work Research Project - Systematic Reviews (SWK 4503) Master’s Program, Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto Winter 2005 I designed and taught this course in which students produced a systematic review of a social work intervention. Students were taught quantitative research methods, statistics and library skills.

Applied Quantitative Analysis for Social Workers (SWK 4506) Doctoral Program, Master’s Program, Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto Introduced Autumn 1997, Autumn 2000 I proposed, designed and implemented this statistics course introducing major bivariate statistical techniques and critical analyses of statistical methods. Labs introduce SPSS software. This course is offered to MSW students new to statistics and doctoral students who opt not to take the competency exam. I supervised teaching assistant Cathy Worthington (1998-1999).

Intermediate Statistics and Data Analysis (SWK 6301) Doctoral Program, Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto Spring 1996, Spring 1997, Spring 1998; I designed this required doctoral course to cover multiple regression, logistic regression and factor analysis. It has been significantly revised and improved over the years. Students apply major statistical techniques to a secondary data set using SPSS. I supervised lab assistant (1997- 1998).

58 Critical Appraisal of the Social Work Literature (SWK 4507) Master’s Program, Faculty of Social Work, University of Toronto Spring 1996, Autumn 1996, Spring 1997, Autumn 1997, Spring 1998, Autumn 1998 (course coordinator from 1996 to1999 with a total of 20 Sections) This seminar course teaches students to critically analyze both quantitative and qualitative research about social work practice. As course coordinator, I revised course content, standardized course sections, and introduced examinations and competency tests.
