  • General Hospital Beds in Israel
Overview Date: 13 Kislev 5780, 11 December 2019 Written by: Aharon Blank, Flora Koch Davidovich | Approved by: Shelly Levy, Team Leader General hospital beds in Israel There are 45 general hospitals in Israel, a quarter of which are government-owned (nine government hospitals and two government–municipal hospitals).1 A general hospital is comprised of the following wards: internal medicine, intensive care, pediatrics, surgery, maternity wards, and intermediate care wards. Israel has a shortage of beds in general hospitals; for many years, various parties—including the State Comptroller—have noted the gap between the demands made of the system of general hospitals and the resources allocated to it, and they have called for long-term planning of the system of general hospitals in Israel.2 According to data from the Ministry of Health, in January 2019 there were 16,021 acute care beds in Israel—15,871 in general hospitals and 151 in geriatric hospitals. The rate of acute care beds in Israel has been declining since the late 1970s; as of 2019, it stands at 1.78 beds per 1,000 people, as compared to 1.88 in 2011 and 2.09 in 2005.3 Ministry of Health data from January 2019 on the geographic distribution of acute care beds indicates that nearly half are located in the central district (23.8%) and Tel Aviv (21.4%), while the remaining beds are in the Haifa district (15.2%), Jerusalem (14.5%), the northern district (12.7%) and the southern district (12.3%).4 A comparison of the rate of acute care beds in hospitals per 1,000 people in Israel to the rate in 34 OECD member states, based on data from 2017,5 indicates a decline in the rate of acute care beds in hospitals in OECD countries due to technological developments and the expansion of community healthcare services, among other things.

PRESS RELEASE Strong performance reported by SuperSonic Imagine in Israel Aix-en-Provence, France, 27 May 2014 – In the context of the EUROSON Congress held in Tel Aviv, Israel from 26-28 May, SuperSonic Imagine (Euronext: SSI, FR0010526814), a company specializing in ultrasound medical imaging, is proud to announce the strong performance of its Aixplorer® ultrasound system in the Israeli medical imaging market. SuperSonic Imagine has been marketing Aixplorer, the new generation ultrasound platform, in Israel since 2011 via its exclusive distributor, Inframed Ldt (http://www.inframed.co.il/), based in Lod. There are approximately twenty Aixplorer systems currently installed in various medical centers such as the Laniado Hospital in Netanya, the Ichilov Medical Center, the Assaf Harofeh Medical Center, the Edith Wolfson Medical Center and the Sheba Medical Center in Tel Aviv, the Hala Breast Clinic and the Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem, and the Barzilai Medical Center in Ashekelon. The Assuta Hospital in Tel Aviv has also recently ordered three Aixplorer ultrasound systems, in addition to the two already in use in the hospital’s radiology ward. As Pascal Dardelin, sales manager for the Middle-East, explains, “Aixplorer has been extremely successful among the Israeli scientific community owing to its cutting edge innovation, clinical benefits and ease of use. In the search for clinical reliability, Israeli doctors are always open to new technological innovations.” Aixplorer is the only ultrasound system that uses real-time ShearWaveTM Elastography (SWETM) and UltraFastTM Doppler. It is a new generation system that provides exceptional imaging quality thus helping physicians to better characterize lesions through the visualization and non-invasive measurement of tissue stiffness.
