County Cubs Cooking Competition

The County Cooking Competition final took place on Sunday 16 th October. Six teams were entered from around the County. This was a fiercely competitive event – there were tears, tantrums, stress, nerves and general insecurity amongst all the leaders and parents present but the cubs all performed brilliantly.

The judges were looking for teamwork, safety, hygiene, presentation and taste and the final scores were pretty close.

When the time came to announce the winners, there were only a few points separating the first, second and third places but the winners were 1 st /4 th Lions, representing . Well done to Mia, Eddie, Harry and Jack for a fantastic job and to team captain Sharon.

Scout Archery Billy Nuttall won silver in the 20 yard Target Competition and was awarded a further silver The 11 th National Scouts Archery Competition medal in the Overall Competition, and George took place during 6 th – 8th May at Phasels Wood in Huffer won gold in the Field Competition and Hertfordshire. gained a bronze medal in the Overall Competition. Active Support weekend away

This year our numbers were swelled by some new blood, as 20 members and partners descended on the Burlington Hotel in Eastbourne.

After approx 2½ hours we reached a local hostilely, where we had lunch in the sunshine.

Eastbourne proved to be a good base from which to explore the south coast between Brighton and On Sunday evening we were runners up in the Hastings, and Saturday morning saw groups of us hotel Quiz, being beaten on a tie breaker. (No heading off in different directions and meeting up Liquorice Allsorts for us then!) again in the evening for dinner and drinks and hotel “entertainment” afterwards.

As usual all of us enjoyed a weekend of good company, food and drink, and we must thank Sunday, as is tradition, was walk day. We set off George Kerr for organising once again. to Westerham railway station for the start. Chris Couzens – Editor

PGL 2016 – Little Canada, Isle of Wight

In early September we embarked on our yearly trip to PGL, Little Canada. As always we were looked after very well by the staff and well fed (very well fed). The activities were all excellent and there were a couple of new ones for us this year. Our group did: Cat Walk (very scary and I was just on the ground watching) Archery, Fencing, Challenge Course (one of the best I The walk took us through the Outer Bailey of have seen) Climbing Wall, Dragon Boating, High Pevensey Castle, and followed part of the 1066 Swing (see Cat Walk) Quad Bikes and games in Country walk and the banks of the Pevensey the Sports Hall. May 2017 (Half term 29 th May to 2 nd June)

Waiting to get the harnesses on before climbing. Mon 8 th District Executive meeting. Sun 14 th Beaver Rambleabout. The favorites were, Quad Biking (goes without Sat 20 th to Sun 21 st Beavers Go Wild, County saying) and Dragon Boating, although they all Beaver Camp. enjoyed the others and ‘did their best’.
