Hello fellow Sir Knights! As always, I pray that this newsletter finds you in great spirits and health.  Birthdays.  Saint of the Month 2 Our next meeting will be in-person and virtual as well. You will see the virtual details in an email very soon. We will meet in the Fr Zink room at 7 PM for a Business meeting. Follow- ing that meeting, we’ll continue with our normal 7:30PM Membership Meeting. We are back  Faithful Admiral to having our regular in person meetings as we did prior to the COVID mess. Please join us in the Fr Zink room June 14th! Anyone willing to provide snacks?

 At our last meeting, the entire slate of officers as presented was unanimously elected. Thanks Saint of the Month 4 Continued to everyone who was able to attend and vote! Our Assembly continues to have SKs willing to lead and guide us. We are still looking for a SK to assume the Newsletter responsibilities from SK Nelson. Greg has worked the Newsletter for several years and needs some relief.  Prayer List 5 The Spring Fourth Degree Exemplification had 62 SKs complete their Fourth Degree. SK  Officers 6 Flint Callaway became a new SK for our Assembly.

 Faithful Admiral I canceled Memorial Day Mass Reception at Fr Zink room. We had no family members that 7 Continued could attend and I saw no sense in having a brunch with no one to present the certificates. We will present the certificates to the respective councils. SK Leone is coordinating the Installation dinner after our Installation of Officers in July. Please reserve Jul 10th for this event at St Ignatius. Looks as though this will be a dual in- stallation/dinner with St Albert the Great Assembly joining us. Planning is ongoing. The bad news is that Faithful Friar Fr Karl is leaving St Ignatius Parish and our Assembly. The good news is that Fr Felipe will be the new Faithful Friar. SK Leone will guide him to and through the Fourth Degree Exemplification. Please join us in our Free Conference Call, May 10th if you cannot attend in-person. I’ll ask our Faithful Captain Tristan to send out the particulars soon.

Harold Benkoski Robert Campos Saint of the Month—SK Giacomo Leone David Czarnecki Darrell Debish St. John Baptist Scalabrini (1839-1905) Edward Empero Feast Day – June 1 Antonio Garcia The Congregation of the Missionaries of St. Charles, also known as Daniel Goertz Scalabrinians, is an international community of religious brothers Christian Gonzalez and priests, founded in Piacenza (Italy) in 1887 by blessed John Kenneth Moore Baptist Scalabrini. Robert O'Connor This is an especially important saint to me personally, as I grew Pete Rangel up and received my sacraments at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Melrose Miguel Torres Park, Illinois, a Scalabrini parish. I also attended the Scalabrini seminary for a time Oswaldo Villalva during my college years. Today, the missionary priests of the order are serving the William Wack Hispanic, mostly Mexican, community that is now in Melrose Park, along with the Brian Wellinghoff second and third generations of Italians. I hope you enjoy getting to know about the Wilmore Williams person who is responsible for the Scalabrini Order. Giacomo Leone John Baptist Scalabrini (1839-1905), Bishop of Piacenza, lived the drama of the exo- dus of migrants who, during the last decades of the nineteenth century, traveled in great numbers from Europe to the countries in the New World. He clearly saw the need for a specific pastoral care of migrants through a suitable network of spiritual assistance. In this perspective, and giving proof of a keen spiritual insight and a con- crete practical sense, he founded the Congregation of the Missionary Priests and the Missionary Sisters of Saint Charles. He strongly supported the need for legislative and institutional instruments for the human and juridical protection of the migrants against all forms of exploitation. Today, in different situations, the spiritual sons and daughters of Msgr. Scalabrini, who were later joined by the "Secular Institute of the Scalabrinian Missionary Women", continue to give witness to Christ's love for mi- grants and to offer them the Gospel. In 1998, John Paul II declared him Blessed and defined him as the "Father of Migrants". Giovanni Battista Scalabrini (8 July 1839 – 1 June 1905) was an Italian Roman Catholic and the Bishop of Piacenza from 1876 until his death; he was the founder of both the Missionaries of Saint Charles and the Mission Sisters of Saint Charles.[1] Scalabrini's rise to the episcopate came at a rapid pace after giving a se- ries of lectures on the First Vatican Council in 1872 and his staunch dedication to catechism which led Pope Pius IX to dub him as the "Apostle of the Catechism"; successive popes Leo XIII and Pius X held him in incredible esteem and both failed to convince him accept archdioceses or the cardinalate. He made five pastoral visits across his diocese which proved to be an exhaustive but effective mission of evangeli- zation and his efforts at reforming seminaries and pastoral initiatives earned him praise even from the secular detractors who criticized him for his strict obedience to the pope.[2][3] Continued on Page 4 Page 3 The Sir Knight News

Saint of the Month Continued

The bishop's episcopal tenure resulted in the establishment of the "Saint Raphael Association" dedicated to the care of Italian migrants which proved to be a cause he held close to his heart. This solidified through the actions of his twin religious congregations and his visits to both Brazil and the United States of America where he went to meet Italian immigrants.[4] He also dealt with the Paolo Miraglia-Gulotti schism that took place in his diocese and had known the faux-bishop after ordaining him in 1879. Scalabrini also held three important episcopal gatherings in his diocese that revitalized parish and diocesan practices and made his diocese the ground for the first-ever National Catechetical Congress in 1899; he was in the process of planning another before his death that was later celebrated in 1910.[5]

Scalabrini's holiness was well-renowned across the Italian peninsula and there were countless who attested to his saintliness in an ensuring canonization process; his first title at the outset of the process was that of a Servant of God that Pope Pius XI bestowed upon him on 30 June 1926 while the confirmation of his heroic virtue allowed for Pope John Paul II to title him as Venerable on 16 March 1987. John Paul II later beatified Scalabrini in Saint Peter's Square on 9 November 1997. From Angels and Saints, Catholic On-Line Page 5 The Sir Knight News
