OFFICE OF THE MAYOR Proclamation IN RECOGNITION of “THE 2008 AUGUSTA GREEN JACKETS” WHEREAS, on September 11th, 2008, the Augusta Green Jackets captured the South Atlantic League Championship; this was the 10th championship in the history of Augusta professional baseball; and WHEREAS, in route to the highest winning percentage in all of professional baseball, the Augusta Green Jackets captured the South Atlantic League Championship by winning the second half of the Southern Division; once in the play-offs, the Augusta Green Jackets swept both the Asheville Tourists and West Virginia Power while compiling a record of 93-50; and; WHEREAS, on the field, the Augusta Green Jackets were led by the “Most Spectacular Pitcher of the Year” Madison Bumgarner; Bumgarner led all of Minor League Baseball with an ERA of 1.46 and a record of 17 wins and three loses; and WHEREAS, the Augusta Green Jackets continue to provide affordable, family entertainment throughout the CSRA and are a strong community partner; in 2008, the Augusta Green Jackets set another attendance record with over 200,000 fans cheering on their hometown team and single game attendance with 5,566 on July 4th; and WHEREAS, the Augusta Green Jackets are owned and operated by Ripken Professional Baseball and affiliated with the San Francisco Giants; and NOW, THEREFORE, I, Deke Copenhaver, Mayor of the City of Augusta, do hereby proclaim September 16, 2008, as “THE AUGUSTA GREEN JACKETS DAY” in Augusta, Georgia, and urge all citizens to join in this observance. 2019 MiLBTM COMMUNITY REPORT LETTER FROM PAT O’CONNER LETTER FROM PAT Dear Friends and Colleagues, Thank you for your efforts in making 2019 another successful philanthropic year for Minor League Baseball, our 160 teams and MiLB Charities. As we prepare for the 2020 season, we have many accomplishments from last season to celebrate. None of our efforts would be possible without the great work of our teams, continued dedication from staff at the national office and the support of our millions of fans nationwide. For a fifth straight year, all 160 clubs reported their charitable giving and contributions, allowing us to accurately assess our collective efforts. It gives me great pleasure to say that in 2019, MiLB Charities donated nearly $50 million in cash and gifts in kind from our teams, leagues and partners — once again setting a new record-high total. In addition, MiLB and its teams nearly doubled our volunteer efforts from 2018, giving more than 26,000 hours in service of our communities. This report highlights MiLB Charities’ many programs and initiatives, including the MiLB CommUNITY Initiative presented by Allegiant Air, the Stars & Stripes Caps Program with New Era Cap Company, the Derrick Hall Pro-State Foundation Father’s Day Initiative, Ed Randall’s Fans For the Cure, the Joe Torre Safe At Home Domestic Violence Awareness Initiative, and the “Cover Your Bases” Sun Safety Initiative with the American Cancer Society. Manager Bruce Bochy announced his newly aligned rotation, and Madison Bumgarner will pitch Saturday, his first Giants start since April 19. “We missed his voice ... and his BP,” Bochy said as Bumgarner took his hacks in batting practice during Thursday’s workout at Petco Park. Johnny Cueto, who started Sunday in the Giants’ final game before the All-Star break, gets the ball for Friday’s opener against the Padres, followed by Bumgarner and Jeff Samardzija. Matt Moore will start Monday’s homestand opener against Cleveland, and Ty Blach will pitch Tuesday. Matt Cain, the odd man out, took the high road with his move to the bullpen. He has 325 career starts and eight relief appearances, including four in September and one Sunday. As a starter this season, he has a 5.58 ERA. 1 “I’m looking forward to it,” Cain said. “I’ve got to go about this like it’s a new challenge. ... There’s no issue with going down there. It’ll be a good thing.” Bumgarner made just three starts before injuring his shoulder and ribs in his April 20 dirt-bike accident in Colorado, and the Giants showed very little in his absence. They’re 34-56 and 27 games behind the first-place Dodgers, five back of the fourth-place Padres. “It’s great to have Bum back,” Cain said. “It was definitely odd not having him in the rotation, so we’re excited having him back and having him around the clubhouse more.” The rotation is set up so that Cueto gets four starts before the trade deadline July 31.

A’s Daily News Clips; Sunday, March 6, 2011 Change of delivery helps Oakland A's reliever Brian Fuentes make right career choice By Joe Stiglich, Oakland Tribune, 3/6/2011 PHOENIX -- A's reliever Brian Fuentes finds an unconventional way to get hitters out. That's fitting considering his baseball career has unfolded in unusual fashion, too. Fuentes, a key newcomer to the A's bullpen, didn't even start pitching until he was a senior at Merced High. From there, he moved on to Merced Junior College, thinking a career in forestry was more likely than one in baseball. Fuentes was drafted in the 25th round by the Seattle Mariners. But his career didn't take off until he converted to a sidearm delivery, one that A's teammate Brett Anderson describes as "funky." You can't argue with the results. Fuentes, 35, made four All-Star teams with the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Angels, and his 183 saves since 2005 are the most in the major leagues among left-handed relievers. "I would have had different mechanics if I was able to," he said. "It was a blessing in disguise, having an unorthodox delivery." As Fuentes pushes off the mound, his throwing arm lags behind his body before he whips the ball toward home plate. That makes it difficult for hitters to pick up the ball. Fuentes had 24 saves and a 2.81 ERA during a 2010 season split between the Angels and Minnesota Twins. Perhaps most important to the A's, he didn't allow a run in 15 outings against American League West opponents.

He had a 4.4 GPA in high school and says he would have studied engineering in college if he had not signed a pro baseball con- tract. • In 2012, he represented the United States in the under-18 world champion- ships in Korea, was the tournament MVP and helped the U.S. win the gold with a .387 average.
