Head coach Alonzo Webb has proven that the Pitt track and field team is a brand that will compete year in and year out on the national stage. Since Pitt joined the ACC in 2013-14, Webb has produced 14 different All- Americans who have combined to receive 30 All-America accolades and has had 29 of his athletes qualify for NCAA Championships. Brad Herbster was named Pitt’s cross country and distance coach in August 2018, as announced by Panthers head coach Alonzo Webb.

“Coach Herbster comes to us with great credentials, championship experience and is highly recommended,” Webb said. “I made a commitment to our student-athletes to bring in one of the most respected and successful coaches in the nation to lead our cross country and distance student-athletes. One glance at his resume will tell you all you need to know about his ability to recruit and coach at the highest level.”

Herbster comes to Pittsburgh with 16 years of Division I collegiate coaching experience in tow. The Kingwood, Texas, native spent the past five seasons with the University of Texas, leading both the men’s and women’s cross country and distance programs. While in Austin, he helped his student-athletes claim eight individual Big 12 Conference titles, 12 conference runner-up finishes, seven USTFCCCA All-America performances finish in the 5000m at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Ruck was also with four first-teamers and one individual NCAA championship. the ACC’s indoor champion in the event, marking Clemson’s first indoor female distance champion in the conference in 17 years. Herbster coached The 2018 outdoor track and field season saw much success for the her to a school-record time in the 5000m. Ruck also earned a bid to the Longhorns’ distance squad.
