Schriftenreihe Geotechnik im Bauwesen, RWTH Aachen University Heft 20 ∙ 2016 Vorwort des Herausgebers I Vorwort des Herausgebers Als in der Fakultät beschlossen wurde, den innerhalb des Sonderforschungsbereichs 532 „Textilbeton“ zu errichtenden Demonstrator als Ausstellungspavillon und Veranstaltungsraum zu konzipieren, war schnell die Idee geboren, die Ausstellung Historischer Alpendurchstiche auch einmal in Aachen zu zeigen. Die Anregung hierzu kam von Peter Zbinden, den ich für den Teil „Organisation von Großprojekten“ innerhalb der Vorlesung „Bau und Berechnung von Tunneln“ im neu geschaffenen Masterstudiengang Geotechnik und Tunnelbau als Lehrbeauftragten hatte gewinnen können. Wie so oft bei Großprojekten in der Realität verzögerte sich auch hier im Kleinen die Fertigstellung des Pavillons. Die Gründe hierfür waren ähnlich wie bei den Großprojekten, z.B. ein zwischenzeitlich abgesprungener Planer und mit vertretbarem finanziellen Aufwand nicht mehr zu erfüllende Genehmigungsauflagen. Dies führte zwischenzeitlich sogar zu Überlegungen, den bereits fertig gestellten Rohbau wieder abzureißen. Durch eine Nutzungsänderung vom Veranstaltungsraum zum studentischen Lernraum wurde dem Pavillon dieses Schicksal erspart. Glücklicherweise blieben uns die Schweizer Verbindungsleute, Prof. Fechtig und Prof. Sinniger, die auch schon die Ausstellung zur NEAT, der Neuen Eisenbahn-Alpentransversalen mit Lötschberg- und Gotthard-Basistunnel initiiert hatten, gewogen und versicherten uns, dass uns die Ausstellung trotz der Verzögerung weiterhin zur Verfügung stehen würde. Dies erwies sich, als es dann endlich konkret wurde, als gar nicht so einfach, denn die Ausstellungsstücke mussten erst einmal wieder aufgefunden werden. Es ist der Beharrlichkeit der Herren Fechtig, Sinniger und Zbinden zu verdanken, dass sie die Ausstellung schließlich im Tessin ausfindig machten und sogar selbst dorthin fuhren, um sich vom guten Zustand der Exponate zu überzeugen. Für dieses Engagement und die tatkräftige Mithilfe bei der Organisation des Transports und der Beschaffung der entsprechenden Genehmigungen sei den Herren ganz herzlich gedankt. Mein Dank geht in diesem Zusammenhang auch an Herrn Navone vom Archivio del Moderno in Mendrisio, der die Exponate verwaltet und uns bereitwillig mit den notwendigen Informationen für die Planung der Ausstellung versorgte und auch bei der Überführung unterstützte. Ein besonderer Dank geht an die Firma Herrenknecht, die uns ein Modell der im Gotthard-Tunnel eingesetzten Tunnelbohrmaschine für die Dauer der Ausstellung zur Verfügung stellte, womit sehr anschaulich die Brücke vom historischen zum modernen Tunnelbau geschlagen wird. In unserem Fall hatte die verzögerte Fertigstellung des Ausstellungspavillons auch etwas Gutes, denn so wurde es möglich, die „Historischen Alpendurchstiche“ im Jahr der Fertigstellung und Inbetriebnahme des neuen Gotthard-Basistunnels zu zeigen. Und da so viel über das Scheitern von Großprojekten gesprochen wird, hier aber offensichtlich der Gegenbeweis angetreten wurde, dass auch Jahrhundertbauwerke sowohl im kalkulierten Kosten- als vor allem auch im geplanten Zeitrahmen fertiggestellt werden können, lag es nahe, die Gründe hierfür einmal näher zu beleuchten. Dabei sollte weniger die Technik im Vordergrund stehen, die in den seltensten Fällen für das Scheitern von Großprojekten verantwortlich ist und über die gerade beim Gotthard schon vielfach berichtet wurde, sondern vielmehr die Art der vertraglichen Gestaltung und des Umgangs Schriftenreihe Geotechnik im Bauwesen, RWTH Aachen University Heft 20 ∙ 2016 II Vorwort des Herausgebers zwischen Auftraggeber und Auftragnehmer. Diesbezüglich gibt es offenbar länderspezifische Besonderheiten, die wir im Rahmen dieses Tunnelbauforums näher beleuchten wollten. Ich war daher sehr froh, dass ich bei meiner Referentenanfrage ohne großes Zögern Zusagen von Auftraggebern und Auftragnehmern erhielt, die in verantwortlicher Stellung in unterschiedlichen Ländern mit unterschiedlichen Gepflogenheiten bei der Abwicklung großer Tunnelbauprojekte tätig waren und auch noch weiter tätig sind. Der Bogen spannt sich von den Tunnelgroßprojekten in der Schweiz über Österreich, Deutschland, Skandinavien, Großbritannien bis nach Katar. Entsprechend vielfältig sind auch die Vorgehensweisen und die Erfahrungen bei diesen Großprojekten. Ich danke den Referenten für Ihre Mühe bei der Vorbereitung der Vorträge und für ihre Disziplin, die es ermöglichte, den Tagungsband rechtzeitig zur Veranstaltung fertig zu stellen. Ich danke ferner den Mitgliedern und Förderern des mit veranstaltenden Fördervereins der Geotechnik im Bauwesen der RWTH Aachen e.V., die mit Ihren Mitgliedsbeiträgen und ihrer besonderen finanziellen Unterstützung den Rahmen dieser Veranstaltung erst möglich machten.
