Takifugu (subgenus of Sphoeroides) Abe [T.] 1949:90 (in key) [Bulletin of the Biogeographical Society of Japan v. 14 (no. 13); ref. 3] Masc. Tetrodon oblongus Bloch 1786. Type by monotypy. Appeared first in Abe 1939:336 [ref. 5589] for several species; no type designated; not available (Art. 13.3). For technical reasons (see Art. 13.3 in Appendix A, in Eschmeyer 1990 [ref. 20647]) the apparently can date to Marshall [N. B.] & Palmer [G.] 1950 (in Zoological Record for 1949, were a citation to Abe is given and a type is designated). Gastrophysus can be suppressed under the ICZN, and Matsuura 2015 has declared his intention to ask the ICZN to suppress Gastrophysus(Matsuura 2015) but no decision has been made. Takifugu in prevailing recent practice. •Synonym of Gastrophysus Müller 1843 -- (Kottelat 2013:476 [ref. 32989]). •Valid as Takifugu Abe 1949 -- (Matsuura in Masuda et al. 1984:362 [ref. 6441], Smith & Heemstra 1986:902 [ref. 5714], Su et al. 1986:112 [ref. 12582], Kottelat 1989:21 [ref. 13605], Lindberg et al. 1997:116 [ref. 23547], Matsuura 2001:3956 [ref. 26317], Parin 2003:S34 [ref. 28536], Verruraj et al. 2011:9 [ref. 31496], Poltev & Koynov 2011:819 [ref. 32470], Matsuura 2014:20 [ref. 33576], Parin et al. 2014:553 [ref. 33547], Dyldin et al. 2016:133 [ref. 34682], Dyldin & Orlov 2017:202 [ref. 35257], Fricke et al. 2018:389 [ref. 35805], Matsuura 2017:71 [ref. 35985], Jelks 2018:289 [ref. 36375]). Current status: Valid as Takifugu Marshall & Palmer 1950. Tetraodontidae. All the above Authors support Takifugu Abe 1949 : No author supports Marshall & Palmer 1950. This is supposed to be a consensus and credibility exercise and I don’t understand why Marshall & Palmer are credited. : Pseudariodes Bleeker [P.] 1862:11 [Atlas ichthyologique des Indes Orientales Néêrlandaises; ref. 393] Masc. Silurus clarias Bloch Type by original designation (also monotypic). Type given as "Pseudariodes clarias = Silurus clariasBl. [Bloch]." Appeared first as a name published in synonymy of ProchilodusAgassiz 1829; apparently made available by Müller & Troschel 1844:84 (see Kottelat 1988:82 [ref. 13380]) back to Agassiz 1829. See account of Pacu Cuvier 1829. Objectively invalid; preoccupied by Pacu Cuvier 1829 if one follows Kottelat's interpretation. If Pacu Cuvier 1829 was not made available before 1961, then Pacu Agassiz is available. Possibly not a cobitid based on change of type to a fossil species (see Kottelat 1987:372 [ref. 5962]). •Valid as Acanthopsis Agassiz 1832 -- (Son & He 2001:1 [ref. 25331]). •Synonym of Cobitis Linnaeus 1758 -- (some authors). •Questionally as a synonym of Cobitis Linnaeus 1758 -- (Kottelat 2012:23 [ref. 32367], Kottelat 2013:177 [ref. 32989]).
