4 IN THE SPOTLIGHT Beau Bush wins George Meany Award The George Meany Award is Labor’s highest honor presented to an adult union member who has made a significant contribution to the youth of their community. The George Meany Award was introduced in 1974. Since then over 12,500 awards have been presented by Local and State Central Labor Councils throughout the United States. The award, a National recognition, approved by the A.F.L.-C.I-O. Executive Council, not only gives us an opportunity to recognize union members for their service to youth, but also makes the general public aware of the important role that union members play in their communities.

We are proud to announce the latest local recipient, Beau Bush. Beau is a wonderful volunteer for the Northeast Iowa Council. The following are just a few of his accomplishments: - Cub Scout Asst. Den Leader Pack 50-1 Year - 2010-Present: Cub Scout & Webelos Den Leader Pack 50 - 2011-12: Spirit Award Winner Cub Scouts (Den Leader of the Year Pack 50) - 2011-12: Spirit Award Winner Boy Scouts ( of the Year Troop 11) - 2012: Camp C.S. Can’t Wait for Camp! - A message from our Camp Director, Scott Kilgore The 2013 camp season is finally here! I am proud to work with such great volunteers who have been a tremendous help while working around the lake this year. We are very confident in the new programs we have devised as a replacement. In April we delivered on the promise of mountain biking trails, complete with a fleet of brand new Trek bikes! We also have a new group of Dubuque-area volunteers who are excited to see our trails maintained and developed over time. We are also offering a top-notch welding program sponsored by Lincoln Electric. This Merit Badge program teaches practical skills and the importance of service. We have an older boy program that boasts field archery, search and rescue, service, and COPE. And finally a first year program that promises to teach and help Scouts retain skills essential for First Class in a brand new way! (And check out our awesome t-shirt design for this year!) So even though the lake is temporarily gone, we are confident this year will deliver to individual units on many different levels in a very big way!
