Past Few Weeks

Not for the first time this year I write these notes following a fantastic victory and a disappointing loss. The victory at Wath Brow was everything you would expect from a game in Cumbria, tough defence, a great attitude and superior fitness proving the difference to send us 4 points clear at the top. The week after against Cas was the complete opposite. A lot of people have mentioned having players missing but that excuse doesn’t wash with me. Every week teams have people missing and deal with it but we didn’t last week and I know some of the lads that played, and more so the ones that didn’t, are looking for a big performance this week.

Nicknames

Rugby teams are full of nicknames and the stories behind them are often brilliant. Last year we had 2 lads giving themselves nicknames with Dan Williams wanting to be known as the Hulk and Freddy Walker wanting to be known as Warrior or Wozza for short. This year 2 of our newer players have been rewarded for their efforts with new nicknames that neither of them are particularly pleased about. One has been nicknamed Handbrake for his attempts to break the line and the other Soupy as his body resembles a bag of soup. I won’t tell you who these lads are but feel free to ask around or listen to the lads as one nickname in particular has stuck.

Mixed Dinner

As you know some of our lads have been picked for the England Lions tour of Fiji. They are having a dinner to raise funds for the trip on Saturday 17th September in the club. It promises to be a great night with 4 guest speakers and live music after. Tickets are £25 each and are selling well although there are still some left. Admission is by ticket only so please speak to me if you want to buy a ticket as soon as you can.

Siddal U8’s were formed from last year’s U7’s two teams the Whites & Blues. We are an exceptionally large team because of that, as well as seven newbies, bringing our total number to 21 that are signed on. However our boys and girls have bonded quickly which makes it easier for our experienced coaches. We have children with skills of all ranges and the children have all improved immensely, which the staff and most importantly the parents are proud of. They love to train hard resulting in ‘Top Trainer’ certificates as well as playing as a team on game days to receive Trophies, Medals and Certificates. We would like to thank our sponsor’s ‘Event Bar Services’, ‘Bond it’ and ‘Simply Better’ for helping to get the children their playing kit.

We would like to thank our sponsor Matthew Thomas Joinery Services for our after game kit for our children as well as helping fund the volunteers kits.

We have our eyes and hearts firmly set on the Leeds Rhinos Challenge 2017 and are trying to raise funds to help our large team get there. Any help would be appreciated. Please get in touch with Richard Connell, our Head Coach.

Having a party? We are available for all types of functions: THE CHEVINEDGER wedding receptions, birthdays, anniversaries and corporate away days.
