ASCE-PEC is the International Student Group of the American Society of Civil Engineers and is the first society in the college entirely dedicated to Civil . Inaugurated on 31st January 2014, the society is the latest addition to the societies of the university.

Objectives of the International Student Group at PEC:

1. Facilitate the advancement of technology to enhance quality, knowledge, competitiveness and sustainability.

2. Develop student’s technical understanding through workshops, seminars and guest lectures.

3. Encouraging students to participate in technical fests, conferences and workshops.

4. Develop framework for students and industry interaction.

AMERICAN SOCIETY OF CIVIL ENGINEERS, PEC ACTIVITIES 2018-19

Event: AutoCad online workshop Date: 2nd June to 14th July 2018

PEC Chapter organised an autocad workshop in which the students were made familiar with the basic drafting software autocad.Certificates were given for the course from 2nd June to 14th July 2018.

Event: ASCE Presentation and Technical Project Display Date: August 2019

ASCE presentation was given to the first year students by the members of ASCE regarding the functioning and achievements of the American Society of Civil Engineers, PEC. Technical project Display was also organised in which various projects made by the students of Civil Engineering were displayed.

Event: Quriosity’18 Date: 11th August 2018

A Tricity Talent Search Examination was organised in PEC for the students of class 9th and 10th .Various schools from Chandigarh participated in the Quiz which included questions from science, apptitude and general knowledge. Near about 400 students participated in the event.

Event: ISRS Drawing Competition on Remote Sensing Date: 11th August 2018

A Drawing Competition was organised by ISRS in collaboration with ASCE PEC for the students of class 7th onwards of various schools of Chandigarh.The students were asked to make a drawing or painting related to Remote Sensing.

Event: Internship Guidance Session Date: 14th August 2018

Internship guidance session was organised by ASCE in which the forth year students shared their training experience with the second and third year students and also educated them about the various scope and process of internships. It proved to be beneficial for as it answed a lot of queries of the students.

Event: Introductory Session and General Quiz for Freshers Date: 21st August 2018

ASCE organised an intoductory session for the first year students so as to make them familiar with their seniors and various members of ASCE. They were told about the working and various events organised by ASCE by the present members.A general quiz related to Civil Engineering was also taken.

Event:Concrete Canoe Workshop Date: 23rd August 2018

Cocrete Canoe workshop was organised for the first year students in which they were taught how to make a strong and light weight canoe using concete and various other materials .

Event: Treasure Hunt for Freshers Date: 24th August 2018

For the first year students, a treasure hunt was organised in which the hints were related to the various aspects of Civil Engineering.It was basically a fun event which was organised in order to make the students familiar with the ASCE.

Event: Prize Distribution Quriosity’18 Date: 26th August 2018

The prizes were distributed to all the winners of the Tricity Talent Search Examination, Quriosity’18. Various schools took part in the event. Mr.GJS Rosha was present along with Prof. Har Amrit Singh Sandhu, Prof. RR Singh and Er. Akshaye Raj to gave away the prizes to the students.

All the ASCE Chapters from North India met and discussed on various matters and policies for the betterment of the ASCE. A few members from ASCE PEC chapter along with Prof. Har Amrit Singh Sandhu attended this meet.

Event: Prize Distribution and GBM Date: 4th October 2018

Prizes were distributed to the first and third year students for the varios events and a general discussion about the ongoing activities in the ASCE and various new events to be organised was done.

Event: Concrete Canoe Event Date: 13-14th October 2018

Concrete Canoes were made which were to be tested on the Pefest 2018. Firstly the moulds were prepared using thermocols and then concreting is to be done. Various other admixture materials were used by the students in order to make the canoe light and strong. Curing is done from time to time and after some days testing is done on the basis of various parameters and winners were delared.

ASCE PEC organised a guest lecture for first yearites to familiarize them with the various career opportunities for the Civil Engineers.It proved to br fruitful for the students.

Event: IES/GATE Seminar Date: 17th October 2018

A seminar was organised by ASCE to educate the students about the IES and GATE exam. A number of second year students attended the seminar .It will be very helpful for the students on how to prepare for the examination and clear it in their first attempt.

PECFEST 2018

Event: Scrape-a-Soap Date: 26th October 2018

A general quiz was conducted to shortlist the teams. After shortlisting, the teams were given the various dimensions according to which they had to cut out the soap to obtain the required structure.

Event: Straw Scrappers Date: 28th October 2018

Firstly a quiz was conducted related to the sky scrappers and other structures in the world. Top teams were selected out of all. The selected teams were given a problems statement to make a structure using strraws which was evaluated on various factors such as height, weight and load bearing ratio etc.

Event: Encode Steel Date: 27th October 2018

Encode steel was a technical event related to steel structures.The students had to design a residential structure with steel as a primary material at a minimum cost.

This event was related to surveying and was organised in the form of Treasure Hunt in which hints were in the form of questions related to surveying.

Reconnaissance 2019 (5th -7th April 2019) INVERTO Event was about the stability of inverted structures, the structure with maximum stability won. It was the task of constructing a building upside-down using popsicles stick and fevicol given certain specifications such as max. weight ,height and width .

INNOVATE : A TECHNICAL POSTER PRESENTATION A technical poster is a summary of your research, scholarly, or creative project in a visually engaging way. It must be academically sound, highlighting the context of your work (through photographs, maps, etc.), your methods, and results (with graphs, charts,photographs, etc.). The poster should be able to stand on its own as a clear, logical presentation of your work.Theme was Advancements in Civil Engineering.

DOME BUILDING In this competition, one had to build a dome by taping together tubes made from rolled- up newspaper given specification for maximum diameter and height in accordance.Aim and interest was sustainability so one needed to maximize efficiency in design by "doing more with less".

DenCITY CHALLENGE Four case studies were provied seeking innovative and practical solutions for the problems using theier basic principals of engineering.

CAREER CARNIVAL The campus placement gives students sleepless nights. Many students face a big question—How should I prepare for campus placement? This event gave students an opportunity to face different stages of a typical placement and prepare them for future so that they get to know their weaknesses and preparations in time.

BUILD A BURJ A burj or tower is a tall structure, taller than it is wide, often by a significant margin. Towers are specifically distinguished from "buildings" in that they are not built to be habitable but to serve other functions. The principal function is the use of their height to enable various functions to be achieved including: visibility of other features attached to the tower such asclock towers; as part of a larger structure or device to increase the visibility of the surroundings for defensive purposes as in a fortified building such as a castle; as a structure for observation for leisure purposes; or as a structure for telecommunication purposes. A such tower had to be constructed using straws, tape, thermocol, cardboard with given specifications such as the base area of burj could vary from 35cm X 35cm to 45cm X 45cm, while the height of the burj had to be be between 1m-1.3m etc.

ASCE PEC students won 1st and 3rd prizes at IIT Bombay’s Encode Steel in which they had to design a G+10 storied building.
