Foundationfocus the Official Publication of the TGH Foundation Spring 2012 FoundationFocus The official publication of the TGH Foundation Spring 2012 2012 NIGHT AT THE CIRCUS The Tampa General Hospital Foundation’s 21st Annual “Night at the Circus” was a roaring success! This year’s event was held on January 5, 2012, at the Tampa Bay Times Forum and the event committee was chaired by April Neil and Janet Stephens. April and Janet continued a great tradition of strong leadership, welcomed several new volunteers to the committee and helped raise awareness of the TGH Foundation throughout the community. Each year $2,500 sponsors and above are invited to attend the Patrons’ Party preceding the circus performance. This year 550 guests were greeted by the ringmaster and entertained by face painters, a juggler, balloon twisters, a DJ and members of the circus cast. Net proceeds of $175,000 from this year’s event will benefit the Tampa General Hospital Children’s Medical Center. SunTrust returned as our Three Ring Sponsor for a fifth year. The Lightning Foundation also returned as our Patrons’ Party Sponsor. Other major sponsors included the David A. Straz, Jr., Foundation, McNichols Co. and Family, Radiology Associates of Tampa, P.A./Tower Radiology, The Bailey Family Foundation and USF Health Pediatrics.     Background Information Tampa General Hospital (TGH), Tampa, FL Legal Structure, Governance, and Mission Ownership: Private non-profit (Florida Health Sciences Center, Inc., d.b.a. Tampa General) Governance: TGH Board of Directors Governance Change: − From hospital authority to a new non-profit under terms of a lease (1997) − The Hillsborough County Hospital Authority is created and governed by Special Act of the legislature, Chapter 96-449, Laws of Florida, as amended. Until October 1, 1997, the Authority owned and operated Tampa General Hospital. On October 1, 1997, Florida Health Sciences Center, Inc., assumed responsibility for owning and operating Tampa General Hospital pursuant to a Lease Agreement entered into with the Authority. Since the Authority no longer operates the hospital, its mission has evolved into a monitoring role in connection with the Lease and a commitment to the provision of health services to indigent citizens of Hillsborough County.1 Operation: Private non-profit Mission: TGH is the area’s only level I trauma center and one of just four burn centers in Florida. With five medical helicopters we are able to transport critically injured or ill patients from 23 surrounding counties to receive the advanced care they need. The hospital is home to one of the leading organ transplant centers in the country, having performed more than 6,000 adult solid organ transplants, including the state’s first successful heart transplant in 1985. TGH is a state-certified comprehensive stroke center, and its 32-bed Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit is the largest on the west coast of Florida. Other outstanding centers include cardiovascular, orthopedics, high risk and normal obstetrics, urology, ENT, endocrinology, and the Children's Medical Center, which features a nine-bed pediatric intensive care unit and one of just three outpatient pediatric dialysis units in the state.

This dissertation examines the influence of fact- checks on citizens' evaluations of political candidates. Using an original content analysis, I determine who conducts fact-checks of candidates for political office, who is being fact- checked, and how fact-checkers rate political candidates' level of truthfulness. Danny Miller played extremely well for them and earned player of the game from the Union. Their next game is against the AlleyCats, who have only beaten the Mechanix this year. 3. DC Breeze The game last weekend for the Breeze was amazing. Their offense and defense both had completion percentages above 90. Young players such as Jacques Nissen and Duncan Fitzgerald stepped up and played well. A.J. Merriman had a huge performance with 3 blocks and 6 scores. They are moving up a spot this week. 4. Raleigh Flyers The Flyers are moving down a spot this week, but that is only because the Breeze played exceptionally well. The Flyers got their first win of the season last weekend and have an easier schedule on the horizon. The next three games they play should be easy wins. 5. Dallas Roughnecks Dallas is staying in the same spot this week. They have only played two games and are currently 1-1. Even though they have only played two games, they did beat a good Aviators team this week.
