Olympic Games Athens 2004

On August 13th, the Olympic Games returned to their ancient birthplace. Athletes from all over the world gathered in Greece to engage in noble competition. No fewer than 28 sports were represented.

To prepare this event, heavy construction sites resulted in the building of 28 Olympic sites. Rain Bird was heavily involved in the irrigation aspect. After having watered the 2004 European Football Cup Games in Portugal, the Rain Bird 8005 SS rotor once again made a name for itself among the irrigation professionals.

During the event, Rain Bird irrigated the most prestigious sites, the “Jewel” of the Olympic games (Olympic Stadium), the most prestigious football stadiums in the games, three out of the six main stadiums (Athens Olympic, Karaiskaki and Panpeloponisiako stadiums), the biggest irrigation project in the games (Equestrian Center), as well as 3 training stadiums (Toumba, Kalamaris and Harilaou). Also to be noted, for the first time, Site Controls were sold in Greece

Olympic Stadium (O.A.K.A)

Construction: 7 lines of 5 x 8005 SS installed into the cement. A palletized turf grass system will be installed over the cement and it will be removed for the opening and closing ceremonies.

Karaiskaki Stadium

SPORTS:

The Complex includes the Olympic Stadium, the Olympic Indoor Hall, the Olympic Aquatic Centre, the Olympic Tennis Centre and the Olympic Velodrome. Except for the main stadium, listed under football, there will only be irrigation in the surroundings – trees - and only low-volume.
