Class of 2016 Enshrinee Brett Favre to Receive Hall Of Honor the Heroes of the Game, Preserve its History, Promote its Values & Celebrate Excellence EVERYWHERE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE @ProFootballHOF 10/13/2016 Contact: Pete Fierle, Chief of Staff & Vice President of Communications [email protected]; 330-588-3622 CLASS OF 2016 ENSHRINEE BRETT FAVRE TO RECEIVE HALL OF FAME RING OF EXCELLENCE HALL OF FAME QUARTERBACK TO BE HONORED DURING HALFTIME CEREMONY IN GREEN BAY ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON CANTON, OHIO – The Pro Football Hall of Fame and Kay® Jewelers, the Official Jewelry Store of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, will honor Class of 2016 enshrinee BRETT FAVRE Sunday afternoon in Green Bay. The special presentation takes place at halftime of the Packers Week 6 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys at Lambeau Field. Favre will become the third member of the Class of 2016 to receive his Ring of Excellence this season. ORLANDO PACE was honored in Los Angeles in Week 2 and KEVIN GREENE during Week 4 in Pittsburgh. The Hall of Fame Ring of Excellence is one of three iconic symbols that represent the elite status of being a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Favre received his Hall of Fame Gold Jacket on Thursday night of Enshrinement Week in Canton, and unveiled his Bronzed Bust during the Enshrinement Ceremony two days later. All three symbols will be displayed during the Hall of Fame Ring of Excellence presentation. Favre will wear his Hall of Fame Gold Jacket and his Bronzed Bust will be temporarily removed from the Hall of Fame to make its way to Green Bay for the ceremony. Favre, a Mississippi native, excelled as a collegiate quarterback at the only school that offered him a scholarship to play, the University of Southern Mississippi. He was selected in the second round (33rd overall) of the 1991 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons. After seeing little action his rookie year, Favre was traded to the Packers the next season where he became the team’s longtime starting quarterback. The Hall of Fame quarterback went on to rewrite the NFL’s record book throughout his tremendous NFL career. In his first season with the Packers, Favre recorded 3,227 COMMITMENT • INTEGRITY • COURAGE • RESPECT • EXCELLENCE passing yards – the first of an NFL record 18-straight seasons in which he reached the 3,000-yard plateau. Additionally, in six of those seasons, he exceeded 4,000 passing yards. The 11-time Pro Bowl selection led the Packers to two consecutive Super Bowl appearances in 1996 and 1997 that included a 35-21 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI. During his Enshrinement speech in Canton on August 6, Favre spoke about his time as a Packer and the role Hall of Fame general manager RON WOLF played in getting him to Green Bay. “As I like to say, Ron Wolf made it cool to come to Green Bay. So I thank you, Ron, for believing in me, seeing something in me that others didn't see, probably including myself, and sticking your neck out there for one of the riskiest and craziest trades in NFL history when you decided to trade a first-round pick for me with Atlanta. So I say thank you, Ron. I love you. You mean more to me than anyone.” After 16 seasons (1992-2007) with the Packers, Favre went on to play for the New York Jets (2008) and finished his career with the Minnesota Vikings (2009-2010). Favre played in a record 299 straight games while posting totals of 6,300 completions, 10,169 attempts, 71,838 yards, and 508 touchdowns during his 302-game NFL career. • 2020 NFL Draft Scouting Report: QB Joe Burrow, LSU
2020 NFL DRAFT SCOUTING REPORT JANUARY 15, 2020 2020 NFL Draft Scouting Report: QB Joe Burrow, LSU *Our QB grades can and will change as more information comes in from Pro Day workouts, leaked Wonderlic test results, etc. We will update ratings as new info becomes available. Is there anyone speaking out against Joe Burrow as a top QB prospect? Does anyone even doubt that he’s the #1 pick in the draft (not necessarily admitting he’s the best player, just that he will be the #1 pick)? So, what more could I add to the Burrow lovefest of 2020? If I say that I’m very much a Burrow fan for the next level, pro-Burrow as a scout – well then there’s some intrigue taken out of this report already. Just another guy singing Burrow’s praises, big deal! However, despite any desire I might have to surprise you with a controversial take on Burrow, I’m just not finding any reason for a controversial, contrarian call for him as a bust. Not at all. The only real intrigue remaining with Burrow, for scouts and fans – just how good is Joe Burrow? As I was researching background for this report, I was watching some media segments and commentary, post-National Title game. One that caught my eye/ear was Colin Cowherd trying to classify/comp Burrow. He had top CFB analyst Joel Klatt on his show, and Klatt, in full seriousness, compared Burrow to Joe Montana… which makes some sense the more you think of it. The following day, on his show, Cowherd compared Burrow to Tony Romo…a quarterback Colin holds in high regard, so it was a nice comp, even if not quite as glowing as Klatt’s Montana call.

  • Joe Montana Reading Comprehension Name______
Joe Montana Reading Comprehension Name_______________________ Joe Montana is known as one of the greatest quarterbacks in the history of the National Football League (NFL). He was born on June 11, 1956, in Pennsylvania. He was offered a basketball scholarship to North Carolina State University, but ended up going to the University of Notre Dame to play football instead. In 1979, he was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL Draft. Montana played as starting quarterback for the 49ers. The position of quarterback is an important one that requires leadership, quick decision-making skills, and strategy. Montana had all of the above, and he was known for bringing the team to victory even in the last few moments of the game. This earned him the nickname “Joe Cool.” Montana led the 49ers to his first Super Bowl victory in 1982. In the game before the Super Bowl, Montana threw a touchdown pass to wide receiver Dwight Clark with only 51 seconds left in the game, giving them the win. This iconic play is known as “The Catch”. The 49ers won the Super Bowl again in 1985. The following spring, the 49ers drafted Jerry Rice as a wide receiver. Rice and Montana worked well as a pair, and were a star passing combination for six seasons. With Montana on the team, the 49ers won the Super Bowl again in 1989 and 1990. However, Montana suffered an elbow injury that forced him to miss every game but one in the 1991 and 1992 seasons. By the time he had recovered, the 49ers had established a new quarterback: Steve Young.

  • 2020 Packers Activity Guide
PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME TEACHER ACTIVITY GUIDE 2020-2021 EDITIOn quarterback Brett Favre - Hall of fame class of 2016 GREEn BAY PACKERS Team History The incredible saga of the Green Bay Packers began in August 1919, when the Indian Packing Company agreed to sponsor a local pro football team under the direction of Earl (Curly) Lambeau. In 1921, the Packers were granted a membership in the new National Football League. Today, they rank as the third oldest team in pro football. The long and storied history of the Green Bay team is one of struggle, until comparatively recent, for financial survival off the field and playing stability on the field. The Packers’ record has been punctuated with periods of both the highest success and the deepest depths of defeat. Many great football players have performed for the Green Bay team but two coaches, Lambeau and Vince Lombardi, rank as the most dominant figures in the Packers’ epic. Between the two, Lambeau and Lombardi brought the Packers 11 NFL championships, including two record strings of three straight titles, the first in 1929, 1930 and 1931 and the second in 1965, 1966 and 1967. Those last three championships completed the Packers’ dynasty years in the 1960s, which began with Green Bay also winning NFL championships in 1961 and 1962. During the late 1930s and early 1940s, the Lambeau-led Packers were annual championship contenders. They won four divisional crowns and 3 NFL titles. Individually, Lambeau, Lombardi and 24 long-time Packers greats are enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

  • John Fox Fires Back at Jim Irsay Over Peyton Manning Bashing
John Fox fires back at Jim Irsay over Peyton Manning bashing By Mike Klis The Denver Post October 15, 2013 Broncos coach John Fox. Broncos coach John Fox fired back at Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay on Tuesday in defense of Peyton Manning. Irsay earlier implied in an interview with USA Today that he wanted to move on from Manning’s “star wars” stats and start winning more Super Bowls. Fox, on his weekly appearance on NFL Sirius radio on Tuesday with Jim Miller and Pat Kirwan, was asked about Irsay’s comments. “I saw the comments. And to be honest with you, I thought it was a bit of a cheap shot,” Fox said. “To me, in my opinion, they were disappointing and inappropriate. “Peyton would never say anything. He’s too classy to do that. They sounded a little ungrateful and unappreciative to me. For a guy who has set a standard, won a Super Bowl, won four MVP awards… be thankful of that one Super Bowl ring, because a lot of people don’t have one.” Irsay, among other quotes, said in reference to Manning’s time with the Colts: “(Tom) Brady never had consistent numbers, but he has three of these,” Irsay said. “Pittsburgh had two, the Giants had two, Baltimore had two and we had one. That leaves you frustrated.” Here’s a link to Fox’s radio interview. Broncos promote Tavarres King to 53- man roster, waive Adrian Robinson By Mike Klis The Denver Post October 15, 2013 When the Green Bay Packers tried to sign away rookie receiver Tavarres King, the Broncos' front office countered with its own play.

Overconfidence vs. Market Efficiency in the National Football League Cade Massey and Richard H. Thaler NBER Working Paper No. 11270 April 2005 JEL No. FD21, J3, G1 ABSTRACT A question of increasing interest to researchers in a variety of fields is whether the incentives and experience present in many “real world” settings mitigate judgment and decision-making biases. To investigate this question, we analyze the decision making of National Football League teams during their annual player draft. This is a domain in which incentives are exceedingly high and the opportunities for learning rich. It is also a domain in which multiple psychological factors suggest teams may overvalue the “right to choose” in the draft – non-regressive predictions, overconfidence, the winner’s curse and false consensus all suggest a bias in this direction.

Predicting the Draft and Career Success of Tight Ends in the National Football League Abstract National Football League teams have complex drafting strategies based on college and combine performance that are intended to predict success in the NFL. In this paper, we focus on the tight end position, which is seeing growing importance as the NFL moves towards a more passing-oriented league. We create separate prediction models for 1. the NFL Draft and 2. NFL career performance based on data available prior to the NFL Draft: college performance, the NFL combine, and physical measures. We use linear regression and recursive partitioning decision trees to predict both NFL draft order and NFL career success based on this pre-draft data. With both modeling approaches, we find that the measures that are most predictive of NFL draft order are not necessarily the most predictive measures of NFL career success.
