They have flexibility to work with students to ensure the students are able to stay in school. https://studentaid.gov/announcements-events/coronavirus Seniors need to contact the financial aid office at their college if their financial situation has been impacted by covid-19. VCLF ANNOUNCES 2020 “LAW AND JUSTICE SCHOLARSHIPS” FOR SAN FERNANDO VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

The Valley Community Legal Foundation (the charitable arm of the San Fernando Valley Bar Association) is pleased to announce that it will award the following scholarships in June 2020 to deserving students graduating from nine Valley high schools who plan to pursue careers in law or law enforcement: • $3000 Student Excellence Award • $2000 Student of Distinction Award • $500-1000 Stand-Out Student Awards (between 1 and 4) The scholarships are open to any currently enrolled senior with a 3.0 or better average attending schools that have Law Posts, Law Magnets or Teen Courts: John Burroughs High School, Ulysses S. Grant High School, , Taft High School, , Northridge Academy High School, San Fernando High School, James Monroe High School and . VCLF has selected these particular schools in recognition of their commitment to fostering a positive relationship between students and the legal system, the courts, and law enforcement.

Eligibility: The applicant must be enrolled as a senior in one of the nine high schools but does not need to be in the magnet, law post or teen court program. The applicant must have a GPA of 3.0 or better.

Scholarship Focus: VCLF seeks to award students who have demonstrated high academic achievement, strong community service and a desire to pursue a career in the legal field or law enforcement. Special consideration will be given to students who are committed to serving the greater San Fernando Valley community upon graduation from high school or college.

Application: The applicant must submit a current transcript; a personal essay of no more than 600 words; and a cover letter describing their interest in pursuing a career in law or law enforcement. Applicants may submit a resume in addition to these materials, but are not required to do so. Applications must be submitted to [email protected] by April 20, 2020. Scholarships will be announced prior to graduation.

Limitations: While VCLF will consider applications from all of the nine schools, it will not necessarily award a scholarship to one student from each school. It is the intent of the program to recognize those students, regardless of their school, who have demonstrated the greatest accomplishments and shown the strongest commitment to giving back to their communities. VCLF may require an interview of the top candidates prior to making its final selection. Students whose parents serve on the VCLF Board or the Board of Trustees for the San Fernando Valley Bar Association cannot be considered for a scholarship.
