MADE FOR SAM is a range of locally-designed products that reflect Art in everyday objects and which visitors can own and take home with them. MADE FOR SAM is a curatorial collaboration between SAM with FARM, a local cross-disciplinary design studio known for its collaborative approach, and with Hans Tan, alumnus of Design Academy Eindhoven and lecturer of Industrial Design at National University of Singapore. 40 artists & designers in Singapore were approached to create 40 unique everyday products, presented for sale in the SAM lobby. MADE FOR SAM is true to the nature of SAM as a contemporary art museum, reflecting the accessibility of Art and its inherent presence around all of us in everyday objects.

Justin’s artwork expresses his views on the Singaporean society, highlighting issues of national identity, commercialisation and consumerism. His signature ‘Double Happiness’ motif is a symbol of Singapore’s successful marriage between the East and West. Heritage & Culture Series by MUSEUM LABEL
The Patterns of Heritage is series of ethnic merchandise produced by MUSEUM LABEL, the retail arm of the National Heritage Board.
Inspired by the motifs on the Cheongsam fabrics and the posters in Singapore’s national collection is launched in conjunction with the exhibition “In the Mood for Cheong Sam” at the National Museum of Singapore.
The Cheongsam, a one-piece Chinese ladies’ dress was the epitome of Chinese identity and feminine beauty during the middle decades of the 20th century. Over the years it has risen and fallen in popularity and been revived and re-interpreted for the new generations. Initially seen as a symbol of the trendy and new, the cheongsam soon adopted intellectual overtones, and was favoured by the sophisticated and society’s elite at elaborate social functions. When it was abandoned following the success of the Communist Party in China, the cheongsam survived in Singapore as the garment of choice for independent, educated women.
