RESEARCH PROJECTS

1. Association Rules based Network Layer Data and Information Management System (ALADIN) This project proposes a data management framework for Mobile Ad hoc Network (MANET). MANET is an infrastructure-less network formed without any prior planning among mobile nodes. The project addresses core issues of data management i.e. acquisition, representation, storage, discovery and protection of data. Different techniques such as association rules mining, cross layer operation and multi-level knowledge representation were used to manage data in MANET.

2. Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) ITS project attempts to solve transportation problem. It employs MANET for solving transportation problems. Different novel techniques (such as data correlation) are employed to enable an end user to find real-time traffic status.

3. Precision and Sea-based Logistics System (PSL) The objective of this project is real-time monitoring of status of objects (such as vehicles). The project used several novel concepts such as condition monitoring, mobile agents, software ontology and distributed computing for real-time monitoring. The project spans around two years comprising various modules for health monitoring, situation awareness, work order management, real-time status tracking and decision making.

10 Dr. Noman Islam Email: [email protected] Phone: 0312-3560899

4. Faults and Usage Management System (FUMS®) The FUMS software allows a user to browse a remote vehicle's faults in real time, select a fault and troubleshoot the problem. For troubleshooting, the user browses the Interactive Electronic Technical Manual (IETM) using an IETM browsing software. The maintainer can order the parts to perform the real time maintenance of equipment and vehicles remotely. Maintainers can order parts, troubleshoot, and schedule maintenance from his/her office.

5. Situation Awareness and Management (SAM®) Situation Awareness and Management, a Java based software tool for gathering data from remote sites, mobile nodes, or vehicle sensors consolidates data into usable information and makes it enterprise wide available for informed real time decision making. The product can be customized using a configuration panel and then deployed with a single click. Subsequently, a control panel allows the user to monitor and control nodes and data in the enterprise.

6. Human factor engineering – Data management and Acquisition System (HFE-DMAS®) HFE-DMAS® provides tools to HFE Specialists for acquiring HFE measurements, surveys, and analysis data from target objects or situations. The system guides the specialists in what aspects of and how to measure the target object. Additional information in the form of historical HFE studies, analyses, standards and handbooks are provided to assist in data acquisition and decision- making. The HFE-DMAS® can be used by the HFE and system engineering community to acquire appropriate HFE data and for generating HFE documentations. Product manufacturers can use HFE-DMAS® for qualification and documentation.

7. Golf Swing Detection This research project investigates different techniques for recognition of golf swings based on real-time accelerometer data. The project uses different techniques such as Hidden Markov Mode (HMM) and Dynamic Time Warping (DTW) for training and classification of different golf swings. The tool allows visualizing accelerometer’s data, performing offline training and identifying starting and ending positions of different types of swing.

8. Tool for Ontology Development and Editing (TODE) The first ever Dot Net based tool for ontology development and editing that provides a simplified, W3C compliant, web based environment for ontology creation. The tool provides features for ontology creation, querying, reasoning, visualization and import/ export the ontology to various formats.

9. AgriGrid This project uses sensor grid for management of agriculture problems. The data acquired from sensors (such as humidity and temperature data) is passed to a grid

11 Dr. Noman Islam Email: [email protected] Phone: 0312-3560899 for analysis, real-time actuation and management of agriculture problems. The project proposed different novel ideas such as software ontology, context Achievements & Awards awareness and sensor grid for solving agriculture problems. Passed Microsoft 070-480 exam with full marks 10. Smart Workflow (1000/1000) This project is a prototype implementation of workflow for university admission Secured the highest CGPA in process. The software is developed using Windows Work Flow foundation Ph.D. batch library for context-aware smart work flow management in a university environment. Secured 2nd position in M.S. and was awarded Silver Medal 11. Proposal generator Amongst top 15 students of A powerful tool to generate research proposals using organizational historical B.S. data. The tool allows quick proposal development via a graphical interface which can then be exported in a variety of useful formats. Developed the First ever Dot 12. Airborne Telemetry Simulation Net based Tool (TODE) for This project is a Matlab/ Simulink model and Java Graphical User Interface for ontology development and building the telemetry system. This project resulted in a simulation model with editing multiple mobile sources and many antenna elements. A fully functional GUI Secured 1st prize in Inter supported the data entry for model testing. Institute Level Programming Competition organized by 13.
