Looking back on 1983, shortly before the dissolution of the Bell system, AT&T founded its American Bell subsidiary to prepare for competition in unregulated markets against various telecommunications equipment suppliers and also against established computer providers such as IBM and DEC. In 1984, American Bell became AT&T Information Systems (a better name for the sale of computers, along with the fact that they were forced to drop the name Bell in the separation). The computer media realized that AT&T had the deep pockets (even after the sale) to compete with IBM. Several incarnations of Clash of the Titans headlines popped up everywhere, and the world was gearing up for AT&T IBM to take away a healthy portion of the desktop computing market. Upstarts like Compaq and later PC's Limited (which was a puzzle for polished AT&T execs) had no chance of holding significant market share once AT&T came into the picture. The PC business would be dominated by the two titans. AT&T worked feverishly on the development of PC systems based on the 8086 and 80286 in conjunction with Olivetti In the mid-1980s, AT&T also developed a wide range of minicomputers (the 3B series), some of which were highly fault-tolerant and powerful minicomputer systems (the kind of computers that operated the most reliable and largest computer/communications network in the world – the Bell telephone system). So far so good. 2020 was ripe for games on all fronts, especially when it comes to PC games. But the year is far from over and there are many games on the horizon. From dark, gothic strategy games where you play as a devil to quiet sandbox titles where you have to survive in a lush forest, PC players have a lot to expect in the second part of the year and beyond. Here is our list of the most anticipated PC games After years of waiting, Torchlight III is finally available to play. There's nothing cooler than finding a game you've been expecting for years to suddenly appear in Steam Early Access. The latest addition seems to contain fully customizable forts that can be visited by random players. In addition, these forts will exist as a hub and players will be able to walk around with the utilities in this area. Best of all, Torchlight III will greatly expand the pet system so you can have an entire stable in your fort full of cute, small animals. -- Mohammad TabariFae TacticsI am a sucker for 16-bit sprites. So when I saw the art style of Fae Tactics, I was Beaten. And who doesn't love a 90s-remembered isometric top- down trip down? Available at the Humble Store, Fae Tactics, puts you in the shoes of Peony, a young magical user who makes her way through the imperfectly united nature world and the world of the how they and a colorful cast of characters find themselves drawn into the growing conflicts between the two worlds. A turn-based strategy RPG with magic throws, mythical creatures and many secrets? Sign me up. –– Sherri L. SmithWhen I played New Blood Interactive's Dusk, I was immediately forced by their incredibly stylized concepts inspired by 80s movies and old first-person shooters. Gloomwood is no different, trapped in a Victorian town overwhelmed by hundreds of brainwashed citizens to steal their blood. It's absolutely nightmarish, personally Bloodborne gives me vibes. Hopefully we get to see some Lovecraftian monstrosities with tentacles, lots of teeth and far more limbs than necessary in Gloomwood, too. –– Mohammad TabariYeah, yes, I know. Mortal Shell is very Dark Souls-esque, but this action RPG has some tricks up its sleeve. As you pass through the devastated world, you will encounter some of humanity's greatest enemies, which is rapidly dying out. The fighting will be brutal and mostly deadly. But don't worry, you have the ability to own some of the bodies of the fallen that can open up new combat abilities that could be the key to your survival. Are you strong enough, fast enough and cracked enough to survive? –– Sherri L. SmithPersona 4 Golden has been trapped on PlayStation Vita for eight years, and finally we can save her from this tiny, dead console. It was suddenly released with high-definition graphics on Steam, and if you've never played it before, there's no better time than now. You can experience one of the most iconic Japanese role-playing games ever made for a who's who you can't. This is also exciting, because it could mean that future ATLUS games will also find their way to the PC. Persona 5 perhaps? –– Mohammad TabariA game that allows me to kill demons into a metal soundtrack? Yes, please! In Metal: Hellsinger you play as the Unknown, a semi-human, half-demonic unit in a bloody search for revenge in a fast-paced FPS. But Metal: Hellsinger is not your average first-person shooter, but the game is a rhythm FPS. Long story short, if you can shoot at a beat, you will unleash epic devastation with a variety of guns and blades. In addition, the music gets even more evil. –-Sherri L. SmithWith an undeniably beautiful high fantasy setting, Godfall has more than caught my attention. The game's smooth hack and slash battle mixes well with its action role-playing game devices, prompting developers to call it a Looter slasher. While I'm not mad about these loot systems, it seems fast and stylish melee system both combo heavy as well as skillful. In addition, its unique character designs and colorful environments are gripping. I very much expect to explore godfall with friends. -- Mohammad Mohammad Trees could be one of the most beautiful survival sandbox titles I've ever seen. Everything in the trailer looks so bucolic that I can see how I spend a lot of time returning to virtual nature. The game takes you to a small hut in the middle of a beautiful forest with only one goal – survive. If you add more rooms to your cabin, you'll unlock new skills that will allow you to hunt, fish or farm. You will also learn to craft tools that come handy to explore the lush landscape in case you encounter some of the less cuddly inhabitants of the forest. This is a beauty I can't wait to explore. –– Sherri L. SmithProdeus After experiencing the incredible DOOM Eternal this year, I would love nothing more than another brutal and arcadey first- person shooter. This is exactly what Prodeus looks like. And most interestingly, it represents a beautifully realized 3D environment, but character models look like the 2D sprites of yesteryear. This is a very unique concept, and there is nothing cooler in this genre than mechanics testing how fast the players' reflexes can be. Hopefully Prodeus can deliver as intense an experience as I would like. –– Mohammad TabariCris Tales looks like a beautiful fairy tale book – one I want to read from cover to cover. This beautiful JRPG takes on the mighty Time Empress and her legions as she works to destroy the world. It's your job as Time Mage Crisbell to stop them by developing your powers and building an army of unique allies along the way. But be careful to make any choice you make in the game can affect characters past, present and future for better or worse. With its fun 2D art style and the potential for branching possibilities and the innovative combat system, Cris Tales could make this year's sleeper a hit. –– Sherri L. The best PC games strive to provide a captivating experience, no matter what genre. Whether you're looking for a cool, relaxing session in Minecraft with friends building your dream home, or blowing up legions of demons and undead to save the future of humanity in DOOM Eternal, there's something for everyone. It's not just Triple-A or well-known titles that give you a great gaming experience. Sometimes these hidden indie gems or games that you've brushed off as a joke can create deep emotional experiences or just just silly fun for yourself or with friends. A good PC game should provide a balance between gameplay mechanics, storytelling and game length; a well-done game that can be completed in 5 hours is better than a poorly developed one that makes you slog through 80 hours of boring dialogue and bland environments. We have our top picks in a variety of genres such as RPG, RPG, and survival horror to help you decide which games to add to your library.
