The past months have truly been an unprecedented, different and often, difficult period.
The coronavirus pandemic has left no one untouched, with all of us having to adapt to what is now a new normal. It has been the worst of times, but in many respects has brought out the best in our communities.
The response to the pandemic by so many people, businesses and organisations has been incredible. Checking in on neighbours, adapting to delivery only, developing websites, changing services to offer prescription deliveries - these are just some of the things done on our doorstep to ensure that our most vulnerable received the necessary support.
We have all had to change the way we live and work, myself included. I’ve continued Assisted to support constituents, organisations and businesses through providing individual over 1700 advice and support and regular updates. I’ve held online and phone advice sessions, constituents met with community groups virtually and made the most of modern technology to with serve Delyn, day in, day out. casework The path ahead remains uncertain and challenging in many respects, both for the health of our communities and our economy. The reality of what this means has Engaged been made all too clear here by the difficulties and potential redundancies at Airbus, with 1000s Broughton. I will continue to do all I can to support the workforce at Airbus and of constituents elsewhere in our corner of the country. on social media The recovery will bring challenges but also potential opportunities to learn and do things differently. I’ve always worked to provide a platform for people, businesses and organisations in this area to shape the agenda in Wales through a range of events, something I am committed to continuing now and in the future. Supported over 100 I will continue to do all I can to serve the community that shaped me and it remains businesses & an absolute privilege to be in this position – this newsletter provides just a snapshot organisations of some of the work I have been doing.

Since being elected in 2016, I’ve set out to make sure organisations, businesses and individuals are able to access information, ask questions and suggest solutions by hosting community based ‘Future Flintshire’ events on themes including the health of our communities, business support and broadband and transport connectivity.
In the last few months, as we start to think about what the ‘new normal’ looks like, I’ve held a number of virtual ‘Future Flintshire’ sessions involving young people, small businesses, community representatives, local groups and others to make sure that our corner of the country has both a say and a stake in shaping a future Wales. The issues and solutions raised at these sessions are not only being submitted as part of the post Covid 19 recovery work being carried out by the Welsh Government but have already helped further bring communities together to take action. CELEBRATING OUR LOCAL COMMUNITIES In recent months, we’ve all seen and heard first hand examples of people going above and beyond, including changing the way their business operates to serve communities or coming together to support vulnerable neighbours. This rightly deserves to be acknowledged and appreciated. That’s why, I’ve been working to recognise our ‘Community Champions’, highlighting the community spirit that the pandemic has brought home. It was a pleasure to recently visit Northop Hall Presbyterian Church to thank the team behind Northop Hall Lunch Club who have continued to support the 30 members of their lunch club, providing lunches, cakes, and afternoon teas throughout recent months. I’ve also been making the most of my platform to help support and promote many of the brilliant independent businesses and producers we have in the area through my #LoveLocal campaign. Wales has a proud record in this area, as the first nation in the UK to bring in the single use carrier bag charge and leads the way when it comes to recycling. In the past couple of years, communities across the country have been taking action to reduce waste and, specifically single use plastic.
This year Plastic Reduction Mold marked it’s first birthday and Plastic Free Community status and I was pleased to be able to join the virtual celebrations . The volunteer led organisation has gone from strength to strength and I’m happy to have supported them throughout their first year – speaking at events, getting stuck in at litter picks and helping to hand out awards to local Litter picking in Mold businesses. Like many places across the area, Mold is also championing the Refill scheme, something which I am proud to have played a part in working with City to Sea to support the roll out in Wales. I'm personally committed to taking action on litter and plastic pollution, whether that is doing litter picks or carrying a reusable cup with me, and it’s a privilege to also be in a position where I can drive change for our communities and our country. At the end of last year, I launched the Welsh Government’s consultation ‘Beyond Recycling: Towards a Circular Economy’ just down the road in Llangollen, setting out plans at how we can reduce waste in the first place and keep things in use for as long as possible, in Above: Contributing in the Senedd a way that not only benefits the environment but the economy too. This sits alongside work on a Deposit Return Scheme and Below: With Plastic Reduction Mold Extended Producer Responsibility with the UK Government.
This summer, I’ve also kicked off activity aimed at helping kick litter into touch, hosting a virtual Litter Summit and opening a consultation to ban the most commonly littered single use plastic items in Wales with a litter pick on Anglesey. This includes, plastic straws, stirrers and cutlery as well as things like polystyrene cups and containers, that are often littered from takeaways.
This consultation closes on 22nd October.

Having heard concerns raised by residents around road safety on Village Road in Northop Hall, including some near accidents, I have written to Flintshire County Council asking what measures could be introduced, and to the Welsh Government asking for their guidance on improving road safety. Whether this is a permanent school crossing patrol or the installation of a pedestrian crossing, I firmly believe that action needs to be taken to ensure the safety of our children and all other pedestrians in the area. To demonstrate the strength of feeling around this issue in the community, I will write again to Flintshire County Council and am looking for residents to add their support to this cause, by adding their name to my letter. Small businesses are the heart of our communities and local economy. Over £31 million in grants and almost £16 million of rate relief from Welsh Government was distributed across Flintshire to support local businesses during the Coronavirus pandemic.
