Club-100 @ North West, a philanthropy club set up by the North West Community Development Council, already raised half a million half way leg of this year; and sees the growth of a stronger philanthropy culture in the North West District with more donors contributing to help the needy. 100 new donors from individuals and corporate companies who believe in the cause had joined the Club, thus increasing the membership by 30% to 400 members within a short span of three months and adding $350,000 to the fund to hit the $500,000 milestone. To appreciate the support given by the donors, the Club-100 @ North West Dinner was held on Tuesday, 24 July 2012 at Gardens by the Bay (Flower Dome Event Hall). 3 Dr Teo Ho Pin said, “I am heartened by the strong philanthropy and community spirit of our Club-100 @ North West members. With my team of dedicated District Councillors who spearhead the Organising Committee of this year’s fundraising effort in particular, we see 100 new members; including 6 key individual donors and corporate companies joining the Club within the past 3 months, thus increasing our membership to 400. We hope to see individuals and organisations join Club-100 @ North West to help our needy residents and strengthen our social safety net.”

4 Each year, North West CDC needed close to $550,000 for the North West Food Aid Fund to assist an average of 800 needy households per month. The North West CDC set up the Club-100 @ North West, an idea mooted by Dr Teo Ho Pin, on 24 May 2008 to leverage on the more- able individuals/corporations to reach out to those who are needy. The Club hopes to foster the culture of philanthropy; and serves as a network for corporate and individual members to pledge to donate $100 (or more) per month to the North West Food Aid Fund. The North West Food Aid Fund channels the donations to buy food rations and food vouchers. On a monthly basis, for every $100 donated, two needy households would each benefit with a food ration pack and food voucher. The North West Food Aid Fund complements the National ComCare Schemes and helps defray residents’ cost of living. Since its launch, Club-100 @ North West had helped over 5,600 families with food ration packs and vouchers.
