Sears struck out a career-high 20 batters at home against VMI in a two-hitter on March 24 to earn the award. on the air • Sears’ performance against VMI ties him for the program record for strikeouts in a game and is tied for second all-time in the SoCon. 20 strikeouts is also the highest in a single game this season in Division I. The Bulldogs Mike Legg (play-by-play) also set records for hits (34), RBIs (31), margin of victory (26) and at-bats (56). Jay Harper (color) • The 34 runs remain the highest single-game total in NCAA Division I this season, topping 32 runs scored by both McNeese and South Alabama. • Sears walked his first batter of the season against C of C on March 3 after beginning 2017 with 21 strikeouts in 13.2 innings before allowing his first free pass. • William Kinney extended his streak of consecutive starts to 105 games, dating back to 2015. The Citadel baseball 1994* 32-34 11-13 program has been recognized for its tenacious pace of play and tremendous discipline that 1995^* 39-21 19-5 Jordan sets forth in the everyday rigors of practice and throughout the season. 1996 33-26 13-10 Over the past 23 seasons, The Citadel has averaged more than 33 wins a season including 1997 37-21 16-7 43 in 2010, just three shy of the school record. On March 31, 2010, the Bulldogs blanked Charleston Southern 5-0 to give Jordan his 642nd career win and move him past Chal Port as 1998* 37-24 21-5 the winningest coach in school history. 1999^* 41-20 24-5 2000^ 39-20 23-7 A 1979 graduate of The Citadel, Jordan has led the Bulldogs to seven SoCon tournament championships and berths in the NCAA Regionals (1994-95, 1998-99, 2001, 2004 and 2010) 2001* 38-24 20-10 while the team has also captured five regular season conference crowns. The Citadel has an 2002^ 31-26 22-8 incredible mark of 60-29 (.674) in the SoCon tournament and won the title six times without suffering a loss. 2003 32-25 19-11 2004* 39-28 21-9 The Citadel has won a game in four of its seven appearances in the NCAA tournament under Jordan, most recently a 7-2 victory over Virginia Tech in the opening round of the 2010 2005 25-34 14-16 regional in Columbia, S.C. 2006 34-27 15-12 At the conclusion of the 2010 season, Jordan received the SoCon Coach of the Year Award 2007 34-27 12-15 for the fourth time in his career following his selection in 1995, 1999 and 2002. In addition 2008 28-28 12-15 to the 43-win season, the Bulldogs also won 41 games in 1999 and have captured at least 31 2009 37-22 20-10 victories in all but five campaigns with Jordan at the helm. 2010^* 43-22 24-6 The success enjoyed by the Bulldogs under Jordan has been reflected in the number of 2011 20-36 8-22 players The Citadel has sent to professional baseball. Beginning with Gettys Glaze in 1992, a total of 34 players have been selected in the MLB Draft, with Dallas McPherson, current 2012 25-33 13-17 assistant coach Britt Reames and Chris McGuiness reaching “The Show.” 2013 35-25 18-12 Jordan was named The Citadel’s head coach on Jan. 14, 1992, becoming the fifth man to 2014 24-34 8-18 hold that position in the program’s modern-day history (beginning in 1954). He was selected 2015 28-30 10-14 to replace Chal Port, his former college head coach, when the Hall of Famer announced his 2016 17-41 6-18 retirement in 1991 after a 27-year run. 2017 12-22 3-6 Jordan received his bachelor’s degree in physical education from The Citadel in 1979 and a *Southern Conference TournamentChampions master’s degree in education in 1987. He lettered as a pitcher for the Bulldogs from 1976-79 and won an Ace (Pitching) Award and was a member of a SoCon championship squad his senior season. A Charleston native and 1975 graduate of Garrett High School, he is married to the former Debra Mattox of Charleston. The couple has a daughter, Kristen, who graduated from Clemson in 2004, and a son, Kyle, who played baseball for his father and graduated from The Citadel in 2010.
