JUSTICE AND CHARITY MINISTRY Sheila Herlihy: [email protected] FOOD MINISTRY MOVING! Are you on summer vacation, and suddenly bored out of your mind? Have you been hunting for a place where you could do some short-term manual labor? Do you love organization? Do you love living up to Jesus’ gospel call? Good news! Food ministry needs your help this week! We will be moving from our current headquarters in the outreach room, to a new expanded location down the hall in rooms 11 and 12. Come by on Wednesday afternoon or Thursday morning, or contact Sheila in the office to find out what times we need help. SALVATION ARMY DINNERS: One of our long-serving team captains of the Salvation Army Dinners is stepping down from her role. If you are interested in in helping coordinate this ministry for the first Wednesday of odd- numbered months, beginning in May, please contact Sheila. FOOD MINISTRY: One of the couples who has helped with scheduling for Food ministry is moving away, and we are looking for someone to take their place in a coordinating role. If you are interested in this or any other aspect of the ministry, contact Sheila in the office. If you’d rather donate material goods, we accept all food items in the basket in the Narthex, (along with paper bags). The item of the week is an easy way to add something small to your grocery list, and donate something that is very needed by our ministry. This week’s item of the week is 48oz bottles of cooking oil. PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY HABITAT FOR HUMANITY: Next Saturday, June 18 will be our last parish build day before our summer hiatus, so make sure you sign The shawl serves as a mantle and up to participate in this work of mercy. No construction experience is necessary to spend your sign of God's healing presence to Saturday living our faith and doing tangible work in the community. We also need people to strengthen someone who is weary, photograph the event, and provide lunch. Check out the sign up sheet in the Narthex and put yourself on the list to help build safe and decent homes for families in need. GREEN TEAM’S EnvironMINUTE: Thrift stores are a great way to make sure that clothes and other items don’t end up in landfills. It’s a way to fulfill the corporal work of mercy of Clothing the Naked. Shopping at thrift stores decreases the demand for consumer goods, which prevents more waste from being created. It’s also an opportunity to be in solidarity with people who may have lower incomes. Think about sustainability in your clothes, both when adding and subtracting from your wardrobe. ALLIANCE FOR INTERFAITH MINISTRIES (AIM) HELP NEEDED: The Alliance for Interfaith Ministries (AIM) is seeking volunteers to work in the office. AIM’s mission is to provide emergency assistance to residents of Charlottesville & Albemarle County to help families in need. AIM needs volunteers to conduct a variety of tasks including: phone screening of potential clients to determine client eligibility, administrative tasks, and communications and fundraising tasks & activities. Skills and qualifications include empathy, good listening skills, attention to detail, and resourcefulness. AIM will provide training and will match volunteer interests and schedules with agency needs. If you’re interested, please contact Marci Kramer at [email protected] or (434) 972-1704. You will be making a difference in this community by helping AIM be a responsive, empathic, efficient agency! THE LEGAL AID JUSTICE CENTER (LAJC) provides legal assistance to low-income individuals in our community. LAJC seeks volunteers fluent in both Spanish and English who will assist LAJC attorneys and clients by translating documents like birth certificates from Spanish to English. Some volunteers also interpret when LAJC attorneys and clients meet. While being fluent in both Spanish and English is required, interested volunteers do not have to be certified interpreters or translators. If interested, please contact LAJC’s Managing Attorney Tanishka Cruz at (434) 529-1811 or at [email protected].
