“The Diary of Anne Frank” Production

So that’s our October production of “The Diary of Anne Frank” over. Unfortunately, some of the cast came down with the dreaded lurgy, but, as they say, the show must go on and indeed, the show did go on! Hopefully, they’re all feeling much better now.

Audience reaction was great. A big thanks also to Pamela Cowan on her directing debut with Kilmardinny Players. The youth cast were fantastic to work alongside and were great with all their lines on the night – of which there were many! – and helped strike the set between scenes.

The after show party was held at Finsbay in Milngavie and there was a good turnout for that and everyone seemed to enjoy it. Below are several pictures from the performance.

Mrs Van Daan distraught at the thought of her beautiful fur coat that her father gave her being sold. He always bought the best money could buy, you know!

Trying to celebrate at the end of Act 1 with the Hanukkah song, all the while trying to sing in tune too!

Never one to get tongue-tied over his lines, Paul (as Mr Frank) certainly found himself somewhat tied up in knots at the end of the show!

March 2020 Production I’m delighted to be co-directing our next production which will be ’s “”. This will be a very difference challenge for me, but one which I am looking forward to greatly. Auditions will be held on Monday 4 November and Thursday 7 November in Milngavie Lower Lesser Town Hall at 7.30pm with rehearsals commencing on Monday 6 January with the week of the showing being 16 March. I will email separately a list of the proposed audition pieces for you to have a read over. Please let me know if you wish to read for any particular parts and on which nights you will be coming along. I have again noted below a brief description of each character and plot synopsis. Characters:- Elinor Dashwood – she is the older and more sensible sister and provides comfort throughout the play to her sister, Marianne.

Marianne Dashwood – she is the younger sister and a bit more flighty than Elinor.

Edward Ferrars – he is very friendly, shy and strives to do the right thing and catches the eye of Elinor at the start.

Aunt Jennings – a great aunt of the sisters who invites them to stay at Barton Cottage but whose intention is to find suitable husbands for them both.

Colonel Brandon – a very honourable man who acts most courteously towards both sisters. He is very much in love with Marianne from the beginning.

Willoughby – dashing but deceitful at the same time. He abandons Marianne in favour of the wealthy Miss Grey.

Lucy Steele – selfish and has a longstanding secret engagement to Edward.

Plot Synopsis:-

The Dashwood sisters are forced to move to Devon after their father dies. They are befriended by Aunt Jennings who is determined to marry them off. Marianne falls in love with the dashing, through untrustworthy, Willoughby whilst Elinor falls for Edward who appears to be unattainable.

I’m sure this will be great fun, especially with all the period costumes which will be required, similar to when we performed “Pygmalion” in 2016. Like “Pygmalion”, there will certainly be no slouching on set!!

Small non-speaking, or indeed speaking parts, such as servants, can be added in for those wishing to be involved but who do not wish to take on a big part.

I would also be very keen to get prompt, stage manager, costumes, props and backstage crew all lined up at the same time as the cast, so if you don’t fancy being on stage, there’s plenty of other ways in which you can be involved. Please just let me know.
