Values of Our School

Mission Statement

Aims and Objectives

At St. Joseph’s we aim to promote sound educational practice and seek to foster the children’s spiritual, personal and intellectual development through a carefully planned and broad based curriculum.

We seek also to encourage and develop the gospel values of truth, justice and compassion. We actively encourage self respect, curiosity, open mindedness and the acquisition of skills for intellectual, physical and social learning.

As a Catholic school we are concerned with leading the children to a deep, living and active personal faith. We aim to support the work of deepening the children’s moral growth and de- velopment of conscience and seek to ensure that our pupils know they are a child of God.

As a Christian community we try to create an atmosphere of love, respect, sympathy and for- giveness for others, where they feel they belong and can grow up in God’s family. The strands of prayer and worship are woven into the life of the school enabling staff and children to articulate their faith, creating a place where God is familiar in work and worship.

At St. Joseph’s School we aim to provide an environment where every child is valued regard- less of race, religion, gender or disability. We strive to provide pupils with the opportunity for personal development so that they may fulfil their potential and become valued members of the community. We regard all children as being equal and provide appropriate opportunities including Special Educational Needs and Gifted & Talented support. Our curriculum supports the children’s development of their understanding of relationships and sex education in line with diocesan policies: this links where appropriate with our science, PSHE, computing, RE and PE curriculum.

Preparation for the Sacrament of Rec- onciliation takes place in Year Three. The preparation takes place at school, but involves close co-operation with home and parish. The preparation for

the Sacrament of the Eucharist takes place in Year4. In Year Five the children prepare for the Sacrament of Confirma- tion. The Sacrament is received in Year
