Cast Biographies RILEY KEOUGH (Christine Reade) Riley Keough, 26, is one of Hollywood’s rising stars. At the age of 12, she appeared in her first campaign for Tommy Hilfiger and at the age of 15 she ignited a media firestorm when she walked the runway for Christian Dior. From a young age, Riley wanted to explore her talents within the film industry, and by the age of 19 she dedicated herself to developing her acting craft for the camera. In 2010, she made her big-screen debut as Marie Currie in The Runaways starring opposite Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning. People took notice; shortly thereafter, she starred alongside Orlando Bloom in The Good Doctor, directed by Lance Daly. Riley’s memorable work in the film, which premiered at the Tribeca film festival in 2010, earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the Milan International Film Festival in 2012. Riley’s talents landed her a title-lead as Jack in Bradley Rust Gray’s werewolf flick Jack and Diane. She also appeared alongside Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey in Magic Mike, directed by Steven Soderbergh, which grossed nearly $167 million worldwide. Further in 2011, she completed work on director Nick Cassavetes’ film Yellow, starring alongside Sienna Miller, Melanie Griffith and Ray Liota, as well as the Xan Cassavetes film Kiss of the Damned. As her camera talent evolves alongside her creative growth, so do the roles she is meant to play. Recently, she was the lead in the highly-anticipated fourth installment of director George Miller’s cult- classic Mad Max - Mad Max: Fury Road alongside a distinguished cast comprising of Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Zoe Kravitz and Nick Hoult.

  • Talking Through the Wire Jennifer Fremlin, Huntingdon College
Talking Through the Wire Jennifer Fremlin, Huntingdon College I am at something of a critical loss when it comes to discussing The Wire. As a feminist media theorist especially interested in filmic representations of race and gender, I am pretty well trained at deconstructing hegemonic instantiations of the privileging of whiteness in movies and on t.v., especially those that seem to offer themselves as radical critiques but end up simply reinscribing familiar hierarchies. Popular culture—hit t.v. programs, award-winning movies, Hollywood stars—offers an endless supply of material on which to hone my knife. This is mostly shooting fish in a barrel, instead of any great testament to my mad skills. But The Wire, HBO’s critically acclaimed yet apparently largely unwatched series, leaves me a bit flummoxed. The problem is, first, that I loved watching it, reveling in its intricate, almost Shakespearian or Dickensian handling of interwoven plots and themes of power and corruption at all levels: economic, political, juridical, educational, racial, journalistic and sexual. Characters are complex and multidimensional, revealed in their working and personal lives to be neither good or bad, but some of both, often at the same moment, or neither, just like the rest of us. They sometimes try to do the right thing, even if by dubious means, or make more money, or get laid, or help others, but just as often they fuck up, and their motives are a nice messy stew of righteousness and self-serving. The show solicits me as a smart viewer, which on the one hand I critically distrust, but on the other hand flatters me to no end.

Free from their parents’ rules, their idyllic summer quickly becomes a test of friendship as each boy learns to appreciate the fact that family - whether it is the one you’re born into or the one you create – is something you can't run away from. ABOUT THE PRODUCTION The Kings of Summer began in the imagination of writer Chris Galletta, who penned his script during his off hours while he was working in the music department of “The Late Show with David Letterman.” After some false starts in screenwriting, Galletta shunned his impulse to write a high-concept tentpole feature and craft something more character-driven and personal.

We are so excited to have you back in Charm City for the first annual Baltimore Homecoming. We are grateful to the hundreds of leaders from across Baltimore – reverends and educators, artists and business executives, activists and philanthropists – who joined together to organize this event. We each have our own memories of Baltimore – a humid summer afternoon or spring ballgame, a favorite teacher or a first job. We hope that you take time while you’re home to reconnect with your past and savor the city – catch up with friends and family, drop by a favorite restaurant, or visit an old neighborhood. Reconnecting is the first step. But our deeper hope is that you begin to forge a new relationship to the city. Whether you left five years ago or fifty, Baltimore has evolved. The Baltimore of today has a dynamic real estate market and budding technology sector. Our artists are leading the national conversation on race and politics. Our nonprofit entrepreneurs are on the cutting-edge of social change. The Port of Baltimore is one of the fastest growing in the U.S. The city’s growth has emerged from and complemented our historic pillars of strength – a rich cultural heritage, world-class research institutions, strategic geographic location, and beautiful waterfront. Baltimore faces significant challenges that we cannot ignore: segregation, entrenched poverty, crime and violence.
