Local Hero’s Project

Dear Discovery School Families,

Our Character Counts program teaches us that good citizens do their share to help their communities be better places to live and work. With that in mind, Discovery School 67 is planning a “Local Heroes Day” to honor the hardworking citizens in our community who have helped us through the challenges of this past year.

First, we are asking each student to send in $1, which will be donated to Toys for Tots on behalf of the children of Discovery School 67 and Officer Bret McCabe. Officer McCabe, a local police officer and uncle of one of our students, was featured in the news recently for helping a mother who couldn’t afford a birthday gift for her child. His act of generosity and kindness has inspired us to celebrate those in our community who serve others.

Second, each child will receive a “Local Hero” form to complete. Students should attach a photo or draw a picture of an “essential worker” (healthcare, law enforcement, first responders, food service, education, etc.) they know-a parent, relative, friend or neighbor- and tell how he or she displays the characteristics of good citizenship. These forms will be displayed at the school during our “Local Heroes Day” celebration on Monday, June 14th.

Please return the completed “Local Hero” form and $1 to your child’s teacher by Monday, June 14, 2021.

Thank you for helping us to pay tribute to the many good citizens in our community.

Sincerely, The Local Hero’s Project Committee
