Claire Tomalin, Thomas Hardy: The Time-Torn Man (London: Penguin, 2006), p. 377 ABSTRACT This essay considers Hardy’s two funerals—for his ashes at Poets’ Corner, for his heart at Stinsford—in the light of their consequences for life-writing: the absence of a single resting-place, and the narrative demands of synchronicity in telling of two funerals. This division of the body was the consequence of an extraordinary lack of precision in Hardy’s own will, the composition, wording and interpretation of which are examined here in some detail. Attention is also paid to the single grave at Stinsford that holds the remains of Hardy and both his wives in diverse modalities of the invisible. FREEDOM OF INFORMATION REQUEST REFERENCE NO 2017–005 Your request has now been considered under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the Act) and we provide our response below. You asked: I have been informed that the Police Central Garage has arbitrarily been moved from Ferndown to Weymouth and it has been impossible to sell the old Garage. Under the Freedom of Information Act would you tell me how much this is costing the taxpayer and the rationale, given that the vast majority of the Dorset population live in the Bournemouth/Poole area and hence one would assume most crime committed here? Your request for information has been considered under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the Act) and our response is as follows: In general terms the decision and rationale behind the decision to dispose of the Ferndown Divisional HQ site was made public in September 2014 and published on both the Dorset Police and Dorset PCC’s website (links below). Dorset County Council Matters 146.1 Cllr Mrs Haynes reported drew the Parish Council’s attention to the development of a Sustainability and Transformation Plan by NHS Dorset Clinical Commissioning Group. The initial focus of this was the acute hospitals across Dorset but would encompass all aspects of NHS provision, including primary care. She considered that this needed to be developed in partnership with other organisations but there had been a lack of engagement with Adult Social Care. She expressed concern that some of the proposals coming forward from the Plan might not be subject to public consultation as the driver was the need to make savings of £4.2M in 2017/18 and £4.5M in 2018/19. 146.2 She added that the consultation on the CCG’s Clinical Services Review would commence shortly. The challenge faced was to take funding out of hospitals in order to channel into primary care to achieve early intervention. -

PUNCKNOWLE & SWYRE PARISH COUNCIL Minutes of a meeting held in the Village Hall on Tuesday 1st March 2016 at 7.30 p.m. PRESENT: Councillors G. Fry (Chairman), D. Heaver, B. Pye, M. Buckland, E. Sinclair R. Williams, D. Robbins & T. Taylor. IN ATTENDANCE: C Buckland (Parish Clerk), County Councillor R. Coatsworth, District Councillor J. Russell, A. Lovell (Transport). 1. APOLOGIES FOR ABSENCE Apologies for absence had been received from PCSO D. Ash 2. DECLARATIONS OF INTEREST None 3. PUBLIC TIME District Councillor Ron Coatsworth advised that the Council Tax would rise by 2% (£50). The Fire Service will be amalgamated with Wiltshire Fire Service from 1st April 2016, there would be no change in services but some savings at Headquarters. Anna Lovell reported that Pops had no candidate for this area. The verge opposite Green Barton, Swyre had been dug out & hard-core laid – Clerk to contact Dorset County Highways & send a copy to District Councillor Ron Coatsworth. Litton Cheney were installing a defibrillator & Councillor Sinclair requested that this be put on the April Agenda for discussion. 4. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING Resolved that the minutes of the Council’s meeting held on 2nd February 2016 be agreed and signed as a correct record. 5. MATTERS ARISING FROM THE PREVIOUS MEETING Item 3. The pot holes at Hazel Lane, Puncknowle had been repaired but farther holes were already there. Item 5. The Old Rectory, Puncknowle -the culvert had still not been unblocked – Clerk to contact Blair Turner, DCC for update. Tony Laver Jackson had done some work to clear blocked drains further down the road.
