Introduction

This document provides details about the new features and updates included in version 6.5.46.3 of the Sightline Power Agent for Stratus Virtual (VOS). This software is a component of the Sightline Performance Management Solution.

Sightline Power Agent for Stratus VOS version 6.5.46.x 1

Power Agent Software Compatibility

The following table shows which VOS versions are supported, and which Sightline version to use based on your hardware and TCP/IP type.

Sightline Version Hardware OS Levels TCP/IP Type

6.5.46.x ftServer V Series 17.x STCP

6.1.46.16 ftServer V Series 15.x, 16.x, 17 STCP

6.1.21.13 Continuum (All) 13.5 – 14.7 OS/TCP

6.1.21.12 Continuum (All) 14.2 – 14.7 STCP (Streams)

This release is compatible with the current versions Sightline Enterprise Data Manager (EDM) and Expert Advisor/Vision (EA/V) client software.

An SDK (Software Developers Kit) compatible with this version is also available.

Installation and Upgrade Procedures

The software can be delivered and installed in one of two ways:

 To install from a VOS product tape, use the install_new_release command.

 To install from an FTP bundled image, follow these steps:

1. FTP the software package for your VOS hardware platform from the appropriate FTP site. Be sure to transfer the software in binary mode (type=binary). Place the software in any directory you choose. Sightline will be installed into a subdirectory.

2. Create the Sightline directory:

create_dir Sightline

3. Unbundle the package. You will need to have the necessary command macros (unbundle.cm) and program modules (decode_vos_file.pm and gzip.pm) installed and their locations defined in your command library using the add_library_path command. A description of bundle/unbundle and all the necessary files can be found on the Stratus public FTP site, ftp://ftp.stratus.com/pub/vos/utility/README.txt.

unbundle kit-name Sightline

4. Run the installation command macro (install_sl.cm) and follow the instructions.

change_current_dir Sightline install_sl

You will be asked to supply your AccessKey, data collection interval, data retention period, system name or IP address, and machine ShortID.

Note: Do not the software at this point if you want to configure the analyze_system interface. Configure this interface by editing the analyze_system.conf file in Sightline>etc. Full instructions and examples are included in this file.

If you do not want the analyze_system interface, edit Sightline>bin>slagent.cm and set frtlasi to 0.

Start the software by going to the Sightline>bin directory and issuing the slagent start command.

Upgrading from 6.1 to 6.5

When upgrading from 6.1 to 6.5 just unbundle.cm the sl kit into the same director created for 6.1 and then change to that directory after the unbundle, then run ‘install_sl.cm’ and follow the onscreen instructions including the installation of SLAA. To install/configure ftScalable, change to the ‘bin’ directory and run ‘add_ftScalable.cm’..

Version 6.5.46.3 (June 2014)

Changes

 Improved XML Processing for ftScalable Interface Agent The ftScalable configuration information is now automatically stored within the ftScalable configuration file.

 Fixed Upgrade Issue on VOS Power Agent Corrected an issue where the Power Agent would not start up properly after performing an upgrade.

Version 6.5.46.2 (January 2014)

New Features

 Improved installation for ftScalable interface agent The improved installation automatically modifies the agent.xml to run the ftScalable interface agent in a separate agentmgr .

Changes

 Too many protomgr processes are launched when EAV is under load (22373)

When EAV is under load, it can cause many protomgr instances to launch on the power agent which consumes system resources. A safeguard has been added to protect against flooding a system with protomgrs. Servd now has the ability to limit the number of protomgrs it launches, based on MAX_PROTOMGR in the agent.xml, default is 20.

 Total memory values contain 0 after memory upgrade (#21284)

Mem Total Pages and Mem Free Pages overflow on large systems, they have been replaced with Mem Total kPages and Mem Free kPages, both now report Pages/1024.

 Install hangs when prevent_port_scan System setting is enabled (#22120)

The VOS Power Agent would not start if this flag was turned on. This has been corrected.

 Protomgr not starting after upgrading OS (#22127)

An error in the ftScalable code caused the protomgr not to start. This has been corrected.

Metric names

The following metrics are available from the Sightline Power Agent software for Stratus VOS. The names followed by brackets ( [] ) indicate array metrics. These have separate values for each CPU, disk, workload, and so on.
