“I’m totally feeling ‘em.” – Liam Howlett Named after a track by legendary bluesman Howlin’ Wolf, Killaflaw inhabit the electronic/rock interzone. They’re from Liverpool and have been likened to a number of other acts – “like Led Zep meet the Chemical Brothers”, “the missing link between Soundgarden and The Prodigy” – but really they have a sound that is uniquely their own. The electro-blues band’s first track, ‘Revolution’, won Xfm’s Demo Of The Year award and then a low-key release of the ‘Set Me On Fire’ single organically spread around the world and topped the DMC charts in the US in 2010. It was played on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6Music, NME Radio, Xfm London and many other independent stations, and the notorious Utah Saints produced a stunning dubsteppy remix of this trackͨ There are now more than 100 home-made YouTube videos that use ‘Set Me On Fire’ as a soundbed – strong indication of its grass roots popularity. Killaflaw have played played at Glastonbury, Secret Garden Party, Beat Herder, Camden’s Club NME Night at Koko and Club Remix at Proud in London (both twice), Brixton Jamm, Cargo, Notting Hill Arts Club and several of the UK’s O2 Academys and Barflys, as well as several of the main venues in Liverpool. The have also performed showcases on MTV, BBC and Filter Magazine shows. In the summer of 2010 they were joined by former Pendulum and Apollo 440 drummer Paul Kodish for several festival shows, and their latest single ‘Happy Daze’ was released on Westway Records in April 2011. Gigging and recording all the time, Killaflaw produce everything from affecting electronic bangers (‘Broken Idol’, ‘Holy Funk’) to bluesy singalongs (‘Message’) to journeying rocky electronic MTV-friendly anthems (‘Set Me On Fire’, ‘Higher Ground’) to sync-friendly powerhouses (‘Revolution’). As the UK’s DJ magazine said: “Killaflaw have the passion, the soul, the raw power and the tunes. Evan Kitchener PRESSKIT 2018 Evan Kitchener Biography Australian based "Moxie" aka Evan Kitchener is a musician, film composer, audio engineer, sound designer, director, editor and producer. His musical style is self described as "Sample Rock" and is influenced by the groups: Apollo 440, Moby and Daft Punk. Born in rural New South Wales, Australia, he developed an interest in creating electronic music during high school and experimented with a range of different types of music as well as exploring sound design and audio manipulation. While in high school he started electronically composing full length albums garnished with samples and recordings of friends he recorded with a Dictaphone under the name "Dj Jib". While in high school he collaborated with his friend Alex Yabsley aka Chip Tune lover "Dot.AY". The collaboration projects between the two were known under the name of Fiber Optic Cable, FOC for short. They produced 5 tracks together which they released on their own separate albums. In 2002 he heard about a local commercial radio station competition looking for young music talent. Even though his style was not at all like the music played on the station he decided to enter anyway and was surprised when Triple Z FM contacted him back saying his track "Where's Your Soul" was successful and would be featured on the Accelerator 2002 Raw Talent Vol 2 CD. Later that year while volunteering at the Community Technology Center to help teach primary children how to create music on the computer he saw a state wide youth music completion. He entered the song "Vegebike Soprano" with his brother Justin on vocals.

soundings issue 9 summer 1998 Thinking with music Angela McRobbie To relate music to cultural theory is not enough. Angela McRobbie argues that adopting a more materialist analysis will allow us to sample the artistry and literary voice of current music makers. Who is that by? Nowhere is the marriage between art and science more happily secured than in the extraordinary profusion of cheap-to-produce popular musics which over the last fifteen or so years have created a music-society to rival and even outstrip the image-society in which we now live. This forces a reassessment of what music means in everyday life, but so prolific is the output of so many different genres, which converse with and against each other, that few critics seem capable of creating a credible map, or writing a story of contemporary pop. Music-making defiantly slips the net of language, setting itself, as Susan Sontag memorably put it, back in the 1960s, 'against interpretation'. Current music styles leapfrog backwards and forwards in time, snatching phrases, chords and strains of sound from unlikely sources, placing one on top of the other, and making issues of authorship and ownership irrelevant. 'Who is that by?' becomes an absurdly naive question. These musics play teasing, competitive games with the audience, for whom, listening on the car radio or even half submerged in the local swimming pool, there is always the chance that they will never hear the same track again. (For a moment, last summer, I thought of getting out of the water at the Archway pool in North London, to ask the DJ/swimming attendant the name of the hip-hop track that was 57 Soundings playing.
