Methods: Crude methanol extracts were prepared from the plant leaves, and fractionated using liquid- liquid partition with n-hexane, chloroform and ethyl acetate. The total flavonoid and total phenolic contents of the extracts and their fractions were determined. The anticoagulant potential of the six Ficus species were evaluated in healthy human plasma, using activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) and prothrombin time (PT) methods. Results: Phytochemical analysis showed the presence of considerable amounts of flavonoids ranging from 5.3 ± 0.7 to 11.8 ± 0.3 mg rutin equivalents (RE)/g, and phenolic compounds ranging from 8.0 ± 0.7 to 86.5 ± 1.5 mg gallic acid equivalents (GAE)/g in each fraction of the six species. Results from in vitro anticoagulant potential assays showed significant anticoagulant properties, with prothrombin time (PT) ranging from 17.7 ± 0.7 to 26.7 ± 2.2 s, and activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) varying from 47.7 ± 3.3 to 72.3 ± 5.4 s. Conclusion: The results indicate that F. semicordata and F. Religiosa have higher anticoagulant potential than the other Ficus species studied. HE present study aims to study the floristic characteristics of the native trees and shrubs T(with height ≥50cm) in the Egyptian flora. The floristic characteristics include taxonomic diversity, life and sex forms, flowering activity, dispersal types,economic potential, threats and national and global floristic distributions. Nine field visits were conducted to many locations all over Egypt for collecting trees and shrubs. From each location, plant and seed specimens were collected from different habitats. In present study 228 taxa belonged to 126 genera and 45 families were recorded, including 2 endemics (Rosa arabica and Origanum syriacum subsp. sinaicum) and 5 near-endemics. They inhabit 14 habitats (8 natural and 6 anthropogenic). Phanerophytes (120 plants) are the most represented life form, followed by chamaephytes (100 plants). Bisexuals are the most represented. Sarcochores (74 taxa) are the most represented dispersal type, followed by ballochores (40 taxa). April (151 taxa) and March (149 taxa) have the maximum flowering plants. Small geographic range - narrow habitat - non abundant plants are the most represented rarity form (180 plants). Deserts are the most rich regions with trees and shrubs (127 taxa), while Sudano-Zambezian (107 taxa) and Saharo-Arabian (98 taxa) was the most. It is principally used as an item of diet in the treatment of constipation and diseases of the lungs and bladder. The sap is used in the treatment of warts. Ficus palmata plant is used in various disease e.g. gastrointestinal, hypoglycemic, antitumor, anti-ulcer, anti-diabetic, lipid lowering and antifungal activities. This study evaluates both the central and peripheral analgesic effect of the different extracts of Ficus palmata in the experimental animals. Methods: Acute toxicity test was done following the Organization of Economic Co- operation and Development guidelines. Ficus palmata extracts (250 mg/kg, 500 mg/kg) body weight was evaluated for central analgesic activity by the hot plate method, tail immersion method and formalin test models using tramodol (20 mg/kg b.w.) as the standard drug. Results: In all the models, chloroform extract showed significant inhibition as well as the elongation of time at a dose of 500 mg/kg body weight. A linear dose response relationship was also observed which was comparable with that of the standard drug tramodol (p<0.01, p<0.05). Conclusion: The study showed significant central and peripheral analgesic activity of Ficus palmata which may be attributed to the inhibition of prostaglandin synthesis, phospholipase A2, and tumor necrosis factor alpha.

Received 13 December 2019 Accepted 15 June, 2020 This work aims to study the potential and importance of wild edible plants (WEPs) as antioxidants in treating different diseases caused by free radicals. A total of 67 species belonging to 50 genera under 36 families and naturally growing in Ethiopia were recorded after assessing all available documents. About 16.2% of the total (413) WEPs were recorded in the country. The plant families with more number of species known to have antioxidants are Amaranthaceae and Moraceae 7 species each. Fruits are the dominant edible parts followed by leaves. Compounds such as tannins, oxalates and phenolic acids are the major contributors to the antioxidant activity of vegetables, fruits and medicinal plants. Plants also have many phytochemicals which are a potential source of natural antioxidants such as phenolic diterpenes, flavonoids, flavonols, alkaloids, iridoids and saponins, High consumption of fruits and vegetables is associated with a lowered occurrence of cancer, heart disease, inflammation, arthritis, neurodegenerative diseases and diabetes.

Of the 36 Ficus species native to Nepal, 21 are indigenously used as food, fodder, fuel wood, vegetable, medicine, etc. and some are used religeously in Nepal, and 10 in the closer study area. Ficus religiosa (Pipal), F. benghalensis (Bar), F. benjamina (Sami), F. racemosa (Dumri), especially have a high religious value for both Hindus and Buddhists and are deemed sacred. The indigenous use as medicine is very important. F. benghalensis (Bar) was found as the medicinally most important species , used to treat 22 ailments. Key words: Ficus, Nepal, traditional use, biodiversity Introduction Plants are of utmost interest to the human race and our ancestor also lived on nuts, roots, succulent stems, fruits, and other parts of plants. Today, our existence can still not be imagined without plants. The use and conservation of plants and plant products is rooted in Nepalese culture since time immemorial (Kunwar and Adhikari 2005a). There is a general tendency among villagers in Nepal to preserve useful plants on their own farms (Pokharel 1998).

    Arboretum Newsletter 10 Edwin and Frances Hunter Arboretum Palomar College Received Generous Donation From The Hunter Family The Palomar College Arboretum will be renamed the Edwin and Frances Hunter Arboretum after the cofounders of Hunter Industries in San Marcos. The Arboretum received an endowment of $500,000 from the Hunter Family Fund and Hunter Industries, makers of high quality irrigation equipment and controllers. The Hunter family came to San Marcos 35 years ago to open Hunter Industries, a global irrigation products company with 800 local employees. Ann Hunter-Welborn remembers the very moment when she decided to endow the Palomar College Arboretum in her late parent's name. While walking through the stately conifers and massive Moreton Bay and Mysore figs, she was impressed by their beauty and wanted to protect them. In addition to Palomar College, the Hunter Family Fund has supported Center Artes at Cal State San Marcos, the San Marcos School District's Fortissimo Children's Orchestra program and North County Health Services, which operates two clinics for low-income patients in San Marcos. The Hunter Family believes in the preservation of forests and greenbelts. "Palomar College is such a vital asset to our community, and having walked through the arboretum, it's clear this wonderful garden is important to students and is a value to the community. Green spaces are crucial to the future of our world." said Ann Hunter-Welborn. Improvements to the Arboretum are part of Palomar's Educational Master Plan, funded in part by Proposition M, approved by voters in November 2006. It will include an irrigation system and wheelchair accessible trails throughout the Arboretum.

The flora of this region demonstrates a wide range of species diversity and growth forms. The vegetation of the district mainly represents tropical dry deciduous forests, thorny open scrub and vast grasslands. During the present work, a total of 1441 taxa belonging to 699 genera and 125 families of flowering plants were recorded. A new species Crinum solapurense Gaikwad et al. is described. Fabaceae is the dominant family with 210 taxa, followed by Poaceae (157 taxa), Asteraceae (85 taxa), Malvaceae (68 taxa) and Euphorbiaceae (48 taxa). Acacia is the largest genus with 25 taxa, followed by Euphorbia (23), Cyperus (22), Crotalaria (19) and Ipomoea (19). The herbaceous flora of the district is notable as it amounts to 56.21% of the whole of flora. The ratio of indigenous woody to herbaceous components is 1:1.28. The proportion of indigenous taxa (978) to the cultivated ones (460) is 1.35: 0.5 in the district.
