January 2019 | District 1-F Governor Lion Kathleen E. Marusich

Happy New Year to all

I hope you all had a wonderful Hanukkah and Christmas. I can’t believe it’s already 2019 and I only have 6 months left of being District Governor. There is still so much I want this District to accomplish!

As I turn the calendar, I see that I still have many clubs to visit, many events to attend and last but not least our District Convention, March 15- 17th. We will be at the Renaissance Northshore in Northbrook. As always, they are excited to have us back and will provide us with superior hospitality. I hope you are saving the dates for what promises to be a fun, entertaining and educational convention weekend. Please make sure to register early and consider inviting your newer Lion members to experience the fun and fellowship. Friday night is always the most fun, so please do your best to get as many club members there as possible.

All of the convention information is included in this newsletter and also can be found on the District 1F website: http://district1flions.com/

** New this year - Club officer training will be held at convention ** Lip N’ Lunch will not be taking place as usual. Instead it is part of convention seminars. Please be on the lookout for the schedule. If I haven’t visited your club, be on the lookout for emails requesting club visits. If there is anything I can do for your club, please let me know. We have a whole cabinet filled with Committee Chairs who also can help. Please let us know we are needed!

As always, keep up the great work. Keep doing wonderful service for your community, and above all, please have someone report it on MyLCI. Elk Grove Village Club Lions have a Heart for Service, Lion Ray Clonigar Lion Kathleen Marusich , D1F Governor Lion Angela Foster [email protected]

Gagewood Lions donate $10,000 to LIF

On December 10th, the Gagewood Lions Club presented a check for $10,000 to the Lions of Illinois Foundation for its newest service, the Adult Low Vision Orientation and Mobility Training program. This training is for individuals who are blind or are losing their sight so that they are able to receive instruction for safe and effective travel though their environment.

We would like to challenge all Lions Clubs in Illinois to donate to this new service to help make this project another great Lions success story.

Go to https://youtu.be/89Ep18SQ7ec for more information about this great service or contact LIF for more information. Grayslake Names Club Lion of the Year

Lion Steve Sroka (Arlington Heights), who serves as Associate Director of Events for the Foundation Fighting Blindness, invites all Lions to participate in the FREE Foundation Fighting Blindness Chicago Vision Seminar being held on Saturday, January 12, at the Stonegate Conference Center in Hoffman Estates.

Some of you might have already seen communications about this in news media and social media. There is plenty of free parking right next to the meeting space, and we will be serving a free breakfast from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00. The event is a public educational symposium providing the latest information on age-related macular degeneration (AMD), retinitis pigmentosa (RP), Usher syndrome, and related diseases. Presentations will cover recent scientific advancements, current and upcoming clinical trials, and the latest treatments available. For those of you who have received this and have not heard of the Foundation, or have not partnered with us in some way, please consider joining us. I BELIEVE THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR THE LIONS FOR A NUMBER OF REASONS. You will learn a great deal, and meet doctors, researchers, families affected with vision loss (we expect more than 150 guests) and at least 15 vendor tables from vision-related non-profits (including Lions Club International). I would love to see some of my fellow Lions there! This email is to encourage you to invite any others who might want to hear about this event and the Foundation, and to meet some of our affected families. I can also use the help of volunteers with set up and various easy tasks throughout the meeting. If anyone can help with set up at 7:15 a.m., or staffing our registration table, I’d love to see you there! You can register here . The Stonegate Conference Center 2401 West Higgins Road Hoffman Estates, IL 60169 Registration and Continental Breakfast Buffet – 8:00 a.m. Program 9:00 a.m. – Noon. Vendors will be on site from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
