Condition/Concern

Some customers may comment that the check engine light is illuminated. Upon inspection, a technician may find DTC P0341 or P0366 resets after following diagnostics and replacement of the camshaft sensor.

This may be caused by excessive clearance between the camshaft sensor and the camshaft reluctor ring as a result of the reluctor ring being pressed on the camshaft too far.

1. Remove the camshaft cover.

Note: You may need to rotate the engine so the camshaft reluctor ring is in a good position to the camshaft sensor to determine the air gap. 2. Locate the camshaft sensor and the camshaft reluctor ring air gap.

3. Using a pry bar, carefully force the camshaft towards the passenger side of the vehicle. Only pry in the location shown in the graphic above.

4. Use a feeler gauge to determine the clearance between the reluctor ring and the camshaft sensor. The gap is approximately 0.8 to 0.9 mm (0.030 to 0.035 in) (maximum gap = 1.5 mm [0.059 in]). If the gap is close to the maximum limit, inspect each of the four cam segments. If the gap exceeds the 1.5 mm (0.059 in) limit, replace that camshaft. If the reluctor ring is pressed on too far, the affected camshaft will have a noticeable wider gap between the face of the reluctor ring and the camshaft sensor. Measure both the air gap between the camshaft sensor and the camshaft reluctor ring. Compare the air gap of the two camshaft and then replace the camshaft if air gap is out of specification.
