Our final official indoor meet for 6 months and 1 st Tuesday of the month social at the Castle Pub from 9pm 5 April Saturday Wallowbarrow / Seathwaite Buttress, Conan Harrod Nice remote Lakeland valley west of the Coniston . The crags are near to each other and both Levens Hall layby offer good quality climbing across a range of grades. Wallowbarrow offers great early season 9:00am climbing. Good variety of grades. 8 April Evening Fairy Steps, Storth (SD 486 789) Dallam Estate is looking at banning access to this crag but this has not yet happened. Huge selection Les Williams Levens Hall layby of Bouldering and short climbing routes. Being located just south of Milnthorpe makes it a perfect location for our 1 st evening meet of the year. Limited parking so car sharing essential. Pub: The Ship Inn, Storth 15 April Evening Farleton Crag/ Newbiggin, Holme (Routes or bouldering) (SD 539 797) Another early season favourite. Choose between routes (and some bouldering) at Farleton or Crooklands bouldering at Newbiggin on the other side of the . Very limited parking, car sharing essential Pub: Smithy Inn, Holme 22 April Evening Tow Scar/ Hunt’s Cross, Ingleton (SD 691 756) The most Westerly climbing crag in Yorkshire. A newly developed crag (within last 10 years) Pete Glasper Crooklands provides a good selection of short limestones routes. Perfect for an evenings climbing with Pub : The Marton Arms, Thornton in Lonsdale 29 April Evening Castle Rock, Thirlmere (NY 321 196) Choose between the steep long routes of Castle Rock North Crag, the more amenable South Crag. Plumgarths This easily accessible crag offers a great selection of West facing routes for a good evenings climbing. Cath Sullivan Perfect for our 1 st evenings venture into the Lakes. Warning : A couple of years ago, a large crack appears at the left end of North Crag. There has been additional movement since. More info will be provided before the meet. Pub: Kings Head, Thirlspot 1 May Social With a return to outdoor climbing, switch your beer clocks over to British Summer time as our social night changes back to Thursday. First Thursday of the month at the Castle, Kendal from 9.30 pm onwards 6 May Evening Gouther Crag, Swindale (NY 515 128) Sue Underwood Swindale is a lovely valley and it’s always great to climb here. Gouther has some fine routes of Morrisons varying lengths across two main buttresses. Again we take this earlier slot to avoid the midges. Pub: Mardale Inn, Bampton 10 May Saturday Grey Crag, Buttermere (NY 171 148) Shaw Brown Plumgarths Let’s hope for a dry spell of weather to give us access to this great crag with the option of linking up 8:30am some great Classic routes 13 May Evening White Crag, Langdale (NY 280 063) Ian Grey (Blue) A new venue for the club. This crag split between an upper and lower section should offer enough Plumgarths choice for an evening entertainment. Located west of Raven Crag starting from the ODG. Pub: Old Dungeon Ghyll, Great Langdale 16 - 18 Weekend North Wales Claire Sephton May Weekend in North Wales. JMCS hut Bethesda, Snowdonia. Details to follow 20 May Evening Robin Proctor Scar, Clapham (SD 762 697) john.hollingworth Our first of two Yorkshire bolt climbing venues. The crag is in a fine location perched on an Crooklands escarpment amongst Yorkshire’s finest scenery. Test your technical skills in relative safety! Pub: New Inn, Clapham 27 May Evening White Ghyll, Langdale (NY 297 072) Our 1 st venture into the higher crags. Another classic Langdale Crag. The steep scramble up the ghyll Plumgarths always feels hard, but the superb climbing is more than adequate compensation. Pub : Stickle Barn, Great Langdale 3 June Evening Harrison Stickle, Langdale (NY 281 083) Max Biden We haven’t visited this high crag for a while. With the release of the new guide, the routes on this Plumgarths crag should now be easier to follow. SW facing so perfect for a summers evening. Pub : Stickle Barn, Great Langdale 5 June Social First Thursday of the month at the Castle, Kendal from 9.30 pm onwards 7 June Saturday Dow Crag (SD 264 977) Plumgarths Another brilliant high mountain crags with several routes of outstanding quality. Fingers crossed for a 8:30am good spell of weather for this huge crag. 10 June Evening Quayfoot Buttress/ Wooden Face, Borrowdale (NY 253 167) Conan Harrod A longer drive around to Borrowdale but a very short walk in to some great routes. Bowderstone Crag Plumgarths is also within easy reach for some long easy routes Pub: Pheasant Inn, Keswick 17 June Evening Pavey Ark, Langdale (NY 285 078) Another amazing Langdale Crag with amazing textured rock providing unique climbing. Great Plumgarths outlook overlooking Stickle Tarn. It will be a long evening but well worth it! Pub: Stickle Barn, Great Langdale 20 – 22 Weekend Wasdale Camping Meet June With the release of the new guide book scheduled for April, this is a great chance to visit this remote corner of the with access to some great Mountain Crags with , Great Gable and Pillar without reach for some classic routes. Hopefully with a Saturday night BBQ. 24 June Evening Gimmer Crag, Langdale (NY 277 070) A crag you can never get enough of! Wonderful climbing on perfect rock in the heart of the Lake Simon White Plumgarths District. It will be another long evening but again well worth it!. If you’re having a great night, you won’t make last orders!!! Pub: Old Dungeon Ghyll, GreatLangdale 1 July Evening Attermire Scar, Settle (SD 833 641) For a bit of variety, we head back east to the Limestone of Yorkshire. Located just East of Settle, this Crooklands crag has a huge selection of routes of upto 20 meters high with a great outlook. Pub : Craven Arms near Giggleswick station 3 July Social First Thursday of the month at the Castle, Kendal from 9.30pm onwards 8 July Evening Black Crag / Long Scar (NY 272 036) Annette Smith The highest car park of the season, at the top of the . Both crags have immaculate rock Plumgarths and are well worth visiting, with Long Scar offering more routes in the easier grades. Pub : Three Shires Inn, Little Langdale 15 July Evening Jackdaw Crag, King’s Meaburn (NY 618 212) Shaw Brown An interesting limestone crag in a fine setting beside the river. The limestone walls stand on top of a Morrisons sandstone plinth, giving unusual starts to many routes. Pub: White Horse Inn, King’s Meaburn 22 July Evening Raven Crag, Langdale (NY 285 064) Ken Taylor An old favourite, which sits impressively above the Old Dungeon Ghyll in Langdale. If you’ve done Plumgarths all the routes on the main crag, you may want to head for the East or Far East Buttresses. Pub : Old Dungeon Ghyll, Langdale 26 July Saturday Black Crag (NY 263 172) Plumgarths A chance to climb one of the Lakes Districts most famous routes or one of its variants. Troutdale 8:30am Pinnacle has to be one of the best routes of its grade in the lakes. Plenty of other routes to go at as well on this crag overlooking the South end of Derwent Water. 29 July Evening Buckbarrow (LongSleddale) (NY 482 074) A mountain crag in the far reaches of the quiet and beautiful valley of Longsleddale. Some great long Steve Livingstone Morrisons routes make the walk in well worth while. (or take your mountain bike!) Pub: The Castle, Kendal 5 Aug Evening Side Pike (Blea Tarn) (NY 293 054) A nice east facing crag with a fairly easy walk in. Good selection of routes on offer so let’s hope for a Plumgarths warm dry evening as the climbing will be in the shade. I reserve the right to switch venues to Kettle Crag or similar if conditions aren’t perfect. Pub : ODG, Langdale 7 Aug Social First Thursday of the month at the Castle, Kendal from 9.30pm onwards 12 Aug Evening Giggleswick Scar (Yorkshire bolt climbing) (SD 806 652) A change from mountain rock and back to the limestone. Giggleswick offers short bolted limestone Ken Taylor Crooklands routes and a walk in of no more than ten minutes. The Upper crag is still trad if you don’t like bolts! Pub: New Inn, Clapham 15–17 Aug Weekend Dumfries and Galloway Anne Salisbury A weekend trip to Southern Scotland with Granite inland outcrops and see cliffs of Meikle Ross. 19 Aug Evening Raven Crag Walthwaite / Chapel Stile / Langdale boulders (Routes or bouldering) (NY 325 057) Our final meet of the year in Great Langdale, with a choice between routes at Raven Crag or Steve Livingstone Plumgarths bouldering at Chapel Stile or Langdale boulders. There are some classic problems at the Langdale boulders, but Chapel Stile provides a bigger range and variety, with some easier ones. Pub: Wainwright’s, Chapel Stile 26 Aug Evening StoneStar Crag, (SD 203 911) About 40 minute drive to this crag but very quick walk in (less than 10 minutes) leaving ample time Sue Underwood Levens Hall layby for a good evenings climbing on this West facing crag. Should have plenty to keep us occupied for the evening. Pub: The Manor Arms, Broughton 2 Sept Evening Warton Pinnacle and/or Upper Crag (SD 491 728) With shorter evenings its back to the limestone. These two crags offer short routes or bouldering. Ian Harrison Levens Hall layby Alternatively you might prefer the bolts of the Main Quarry Terrace or even the scary trad routes below. Pub: George Washington Inn, Warton 4 Sept Social First Thursday of the month at the Castle, Kendal from 9.30pm onwards 5 – 7 Sept Weekend North Wales joint meet with Kendal Fell Walkers Conan Harrod A trip to the Oread hut, Rhyd Dhu on the South Side of Snowdon. This is a joint trip shared with the Fell Walkers in this large hut so will offer a choice of walking and climbing. South Snowdonia has a wealth of climbing crags to choose from. 9 Sept Evening Jack Scout Cove, Silverdale (with barbeque afterwards if weather permits) (SD 459 737) Our annual trip to the seaside! The tide will be on its way out when we arrive, so we should be ok. Polly Sullivan Levens Hall layby Let’s hope the weather is good enough for our barbeque. [email protected] Pub: New Inn, Yealand 16 Sept Evening Trowbarrow Quarry, near Silverdale Station (SD 481 760) Les Williams Back to one of our favourite end of season venues, and time to pack that headtorch. With a relatively Levens Hall layby short drive and walk in, there should be time for two or three routes. Pub: New Inn, Yealand 20 Sep Saturday Shepherds Crag (NY 263 185) Great location for everyone. Good selection of climbs throughout the grades. Good place for Cath Sullivan Plumgarths beginners to practice leading and its sheltered position makes it’s a great venue for late summer 9:00am climbing. 23 Sept Evening Hutton Roof (followed by a Curry in Kendal) (SD 566 783) Our traditional ‘three C’s’ end to the outdoor evening season. Climbing at Hutton Roof, Curry in Crooklands Kendal and the Castle for a nightcap. The last few years we have nearly filled the curry house, so let’s hope for a good turn-out. 7 Oct Social With the return to Indoor climbing our pub social night changes back to Tuesday night to follow our evenings climbing at the wall. Meet at the Castle, Kendal from 9.00pm onwards 17-19 Oct Weekend Peak District - hut meet Richard Walker Get those knuckles taped, it’s time for a bit of jamming practice as we head south to the Peaks. Please note that all meets are subject to change to allow for weather and newly imposed climbing restrictions.

Evening Meets These are subject to weather. Further information will be sent out during the week before. Wet weather alternative is Kendal Climbing Wall. In addition to this we will have a couple of evenings outside in the rain Ghyll Scrambling.

Monthly Saturday Meets These full day trips allow access to higher or more remote crags that we can’t visit in the evening. The wet weather alternative will be a scramble/walk arranged by the meet organiser and where possible, in the same area as the listed meet. Other Ad-Hoc meets will be arranged throughout the summer.

Weekend Meets These weekends away are usually staying in Affiliated club huts and bunkhouses and always prove very popular. Located in more remote locations, it gives us the opportunity to visit new areas. These include our winter climbing meets to Scotland. A great time is had by all whatever the weather.

Summer Trips etc Look out for details of trips further afield for both rock climbing and mountaineering. More details will follow.
