CHINA HORSE CLUB BUYS LOTTERY WINNER USES MILLIONS TO BUILD HORSE POWER INTO >CHROME= By Bill Finley Everyone dreams of winning the lottery and reaping the rewards that come with it. A yacht? A Ferrari? A vacation home in the Hamptons? A private jet? Not Harold Lerner. He just wanted to own a few good race horses. On the morning of Sept. 15, 2005, Lerner was a kitchenware salesman living in a modest home in Rutherford, New Jersey, and a lifelong racing fan and horseplayer. Owning horses was not for him. It was a rich man=s game. That all changed when he cashed the biggest bet of his life, on a 175,000,0000-1 shot. Those were the odds of hitting the Mega Millions jackpot 11 years ago when the pool swelled to near record numbers. Cont. p4

REBEL STORMS TO MANIKATO UPSET O=BRIEN CHASING Rebel Dane (Aus) (California Dane {Aus}) snapped a 12-race ANOTHER TROPHY losing streak and recorded his first Group 1 win since his Sir Rupert Clarke S. victory in 2013 when upsetting a quality field of sprinters in Friday night=s G1 Manikato S. at Moonee Valley. The 7-year-old entire rode the rail two lengths off the lead as Buffering (Aus) (Mossman {Aus}) and Fell Swoop (Aus) (Not A Single Doubt {Aus}) dueled for the lead. He had Group 1 winners Holler (Aus) (Commands {Aus}) and Japonisme (Aus) (Choisir {Aus}) also within his sights, while G1 All Aged S. winner English (Aus) (Encosta de Lago {Aus}) sat one slot behind him and champion sprinter Chautauqua (Aus) (Encosta de Lago {Aus}), having broken a step slow, took up his customary position at the back of the field. Enjoying a dream run as his inside path remained clear on the run into the short straight, Rebel Dane hit the lead under a drive upon straightening and found the line just in time to hold off a re-rallying Fell Swoop.
