Believed to originally date from 1616 using brick and flint with a later Georgian facade and further Victorian additions. Set within 13 acres in a commanding position with sweeping views over the Vale of Aylesbury it dominates the surrounding landscape heralded by massive octagonal chimneys. Historical accounts of Wendover suggest that Judge Jeffreys was a resident during the Aylesbury Assizes and local lore abounds with rumours of a tunnel leading from the house to Chequers Manor. Wonderful period features are plentiful, with a multitude of stone mullioned windows, feature fireplaces, an 18th century staircase with twisted balusters, a wealth of oak beams and wide oak floor boards. Above the ancient 17th century porch is a decorative shield of the Brudenell family. The house has been sympathetically refurbished in recent years with many of the principal rooms subject to beautiful interior design. The accommodation spread over a number of floors is both spacious and versatile with up to eight bedrooms and three principal reception rooms providing wonderful family space and the ability to entertain on a grand scale. Rooms of particular note are the impressive drawing room, the heart of the house dominated by a deep open fireplace and the original oak front door. To one side of the drawing room is the grand panelled dining room with sash windows, seats and shutters and a fireplace with a handsome Georgian marble surround. On the other side is the more informal sitting room with its beamed ceiling and feature fireplace. The farmhouse style kitchen/breakfast room, incorporating an Aga, has steps leading down to a substantial basement area with rooms used for snooker, games, wine store and laundry. On the first floor the elegant master bedroom and en suite occupies one end of the house with the bath centrally positioned to capture the lovely westerly views. The wide landing provides access to three bedrooms across the front with a corridor leading to two single bedrooms, a contemporary ‘wet room’ and a long dressing room, all in the Victorian wing. A 17th century oak staircase provides access to the top floor which has been converted into self contained accommodation for live in staff or a relative for example with a kitchen, sitting room, bedroom and shower room. Outside Adjoining the house facing onto the courtyard are the twin garages separated by a good sized workshop and log store. The stable block adjacent to the paddocks comprises four boxes and two tack rooms. There are areas of formal gardens surrounding the house with a terraced front garden, beautiful walled garden with Yew hedges and a play area for children. On the other side of the drive is a small orchard and further grassed area. Beyond is a stable block, now in a state of disrepair, which together with the post and rail paddocks would appeal to the equestrian enthusiast. In total there is about 13 acres. Situation Wellwick House can be seen in the distance from Ellesborough Road and is reached by a lane about ½ a mile long which passes through Wellwick Farm then up a tree lined drive that sweeps round into the sunny courtyard.
